A beautiful, peaceful property located on the Western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in St Mary’s County Maryland just 5 miles North of Pt Lookout State Park. From the house, it’s a short 1 minute walk to the beach and Chesapeake Bay shoreline. The property is setup with everything needed for you and your friends and family to enjoy a comfortable stay during each season of the year. Read prior Guest Reviews on VRBO and Google Map to decide if the property will suit your needs while away from home. It has for 150 families over the past 7 years! “Peaceful, cozy, comfortable, everything you need, relaxing, beautiful place to take walks and enjoy a run, we brought our bikes and had so much fun” are all comments we see in Guest Reviews and in the Guestbook. See more reviews photos and information on Google Maps, FB and Instagram pages. Shopping, tourist and historical sites and full-menu and Bar/Restaurants including Courtney’s which features the freshest seafood meals and Pier 450 and SALT are also nearby and feature Chef created menus and gorgeous water views. Parents are encouraged to shop ahead and bring your groceries with you on the first day because once you arrive, you won’t want to leave to spend any time in a grocery store! (Instacart is available for deliveries) The sand, water, grass, sunrise and sunset views, the birds, deer, fox, turtles, frogs, crabs and fish are all waiting for you. Game Room full of fun in the backyard is a great spot to hang out! Call or write with any questions, peace is waiting for you and your friends and family. Disclosure: RING floodlight security cameras are installed at each of the 3 entry doors of the house and driveway. A (non-floodlight) camera is installed at the privately marked entrance doors of the “Tool Shed”. The “tool side” of the backyard shed is not for Guest use. The water level in the back of the property is in view of (2) RING (non-floodlight) cameras.

Hideaway at Hayes Beach was amazing It was a wonderful place to spend Christmas with our family. We were lucky enough to get snow! My husband and I enjoy walking so it was a prefect place to for it. Would definitely recommend this place

the house was perfect! Jocelyn was a terrific host. She provided a welcome basket with cookies, materials for Smores. there are games, activities, beach toys, even bikes! The kitchen and entire house are well-appointed with absolutely everything you mighty need for a nice stay. Adorable interior decorating. Everything from bath towels to cookware are quite nice! The location is peaceful and quiet but you can hear the waves on the water from the open windows. Backyard had everything needed for family entertaining. We will definitely come back! Check in and check out were easy and flexible processes.

Wonderful and friendly host, beautiful, impeccably-maintained, and well stocked home. Get your fishing license, read up on crabbing laws, and have fun! We found sea glass, decent-sized male crabs, and caught a flounder.

This property could not have been cuter and Jocelyn has thought of everything you could possibly need. The kids play shed kept them busy for hours and the backyard was an oasis!

Our Texas family loved our stay at Hays Beach hideaway! The house was perfect and had everything we could possibly need. Just a short walk (60 seconds) to the beach and we were crabbing and enjoying the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever seen! Owner was very responsive and offered information about the area. Family enjoyed the bicycles, yard games, beach supplies, crab equipment, kayaks, and very comfortable beds. Home was very nicely decorated inside and out and clean and comfortable. A most enjoyable stay we will be back!

We had a great vacation at Hideaway! The house is so cozy and beautifully decorated. It was clean and fully stocked with supplies. There are so many amenities that we didn’t have time to use them all! (Kayaks, paddle board, game shed, crabbing, fire pits, pizza oven…) The owners have thought of everything you’d need or want, plus more! We loved the quiet beach and how close it is to the house. We can’t wait to return again!

We had a fantastic stay at the Hideaway in Hays Beach. We were coming up to see our 93yr old Grandmother who lives about 45 minutes away. Our families rented two homes in the area and were able to enjoy our time with three generations that aren’t able to see each other often. The home was exactly as shown, perfectly decorated and incredibly well stocked! We’d absolutely come back!

Great location!

Really enjoyed our time here. The outdoor space in the back was great with the swing and the fire pits. Our kids loved walking to the beach everyday and catching crabs.

Beautiful Chesapeake

We are not strangers to the area, my wife having grown up in the area, but each time we stay on the Chesapeake we feel at home. The Hideaway is so nice that you don't want to go back your actual home! It is furnished as if it is a year-round residence, no cheap or mismatched furniture and appliances. We enjoy cooking and the kitchen is has everything you need and it works. The yard and amenities are top notch. If you enjoy bird watching, sit in the back yard and take in the bird activity over Deep Creek and its marshes. There are ample kayaking opportunities. We are looking forward to returning to the Hideaway

Nearly-Perfect Stay

Not my first rental in the Scotland area and was not disappointed! Jocelyn was communicative and kind and the house was lovely, cozy and clean. The house wasn't 100% ready at check-in, but she gave us advance notice and as it happened, we were running behind anyway. The property is well equipped, steps from the beach, has a beautiful backyard for warmer months, and was a great size for two couples and an infant on a winter retreat.Our only complaints were the tap water (very smelly and not pleasant to shower in, much less to drink - definitely bring your own bottled water), the lack of access to the game shed in the winter (the photos did not imply that this was a seasonal offering - maybe our mistake?) and the lack of storage in the kitchen. The owners have tons of food, kitchen equipment, and a huge selection of platters and dishware available, which seems like a perk until you try to fit your groceries somewhere. The small amount of counter space is also chock-full of decor (not unlike the rest of the house), so with the four of us cooking three meals a day we had to keep most of our food in the laundry area. For a longer trip, this would have been a bigger issue, but a small nuisance in comparison to everything else about this lovely home. Overall, the Hideaway clearly takes hospitality seriously, has a good cleaning crew and a spectacular location. We hope to visit again someday!

A True Gem

Wonderful house in an amazing, remote location. Just footsteps to a sublime, quiet beach. Ideal for families looking to get away from the city for a break and to enjoy nature. House very thoughtfully and creatively decorated, full of charm, and also practical and well-equipped. Wonderful garden and back porch. Easily merits 5/5!

A Family's Dream Getaway - Very close to DC!

This rental property is a hidden gem! Perfectly situated near a crabbing creek (we caught a lot of blue crabs), it's ideal for family adventures. As parents with small children, we found it to be one of the best rentals we've stayed in. The thoughtful hosts have stocked the place exceptionally well - from coffee to cookware and toiletries. Everything we needed was at our fingertips, making our stay comfortable and stress-free. The backyard is a standout feature, with a fire pit for cozy evenings. Highly recommended for families looking for a well-equipped, convenient, and enjoyable getaway!

Great place

This is a great place to stay. We loved the house (it's really as perfect as it sounds) and the location and the description is accurate. I will note that in our July stay there were a significant amount of jellyfish in the water, which prevented a lot of swimming, but that is par for the course for the Chesapeake I believe. We LOVED kayaking around the backwaters and there was a lot to explore. If you are looking for a quiet place to spend time as a family, this is your place. My only recommendation would be to have some sort of "book" with info about the house and posting wifi codes physically somewhere in the house. Would have made it easier to figure things out upon arrival and having all info in one place would be easier.

A little bit of heaven

The Hideaway at Hayes beach is perfectly situated to enjoy the outdoor offerings. The backyard is lovely and has everything you need to relax and be outside. We saw all sorts of birds, a fox, skinks and little frogs. The kids loved it. What a wonderful, relaxing week.

If you need to heal, find water!

This property was absolutely beautiful. It is located in a very remote area down a dirt road. There are just enough neighbors that you don’t feel alone but you basically have the beach to yourself. The landscaping is gorgeous. There’s a feeling of being outdoors while you are indoors. I could wake bathed in the sunlight coming into this home every single day for the rest of my life. You can see the bay from the front of the house and gorgeous marsh area in the rear of the yard. The hosts thought of everything you could possibly need. There’s everything from a toddler potty seat to doggy poo bags! The game shed was so much fun and is air conditioned. There are more games in the house. The beds were very cozy which was nice after a long drive. Jocelyn was very kind and communicative. I traveled alone with my children to celebrate the memory of my late husband. I was nervous and overwhelmed but this property and Jocelyn made it so stress free and helped me create beautiful memories with my children.

Great cottage on the bay

We had a fantastic stay. The house is fully stocked with everything you may need and more. Quick stroll to the beach. I must dint want anyone to know about this as I don’t want this little slice of heaven overrun with guests.

Wonderful start to the summer!

This was our second stay at the Hideaway. We have come to love Hays Beach like a second home. The backyard is beautiful and feels like stepping into a private park. When the sun got a little hot, we spent time hanging out in the sunroom, which also became our bird-watching spot in the evening. We have already started planning for our next trip to this stunning property.

The Copeland's are a couple originally from West Virginia and Maryland. As a family of three, we enjoy spending time with our extended family in St. Mary's county and other areas in Maryland and West Virginia.

Hays Beach had been more than a favorite family vacation location for the two years before we purchased the property. It was a welcomed "retreat" from the stress and daily pace of suburban Maryland life. It felt like a natural "next step" in our journey as a family to purchase The Hideaway in Hays Beach and to create and share the peaceful experience with other families.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

We are more at peace here than in any other place we have ever visited. The Hays Beach community is calm and neighborly and the expansive views of the Bay water and the forest and creek/lake are captivating. We live in a suburb of Washington DC and like many others, our days and weeks are filled with time spent in "the box" of an office, a house, a school and a car. Being outdoors is one thing. Being outdoors where our 360 degree view to the horizon is filled with the expanse of the Chesapeake Bay, tall forest and marshy creek, opens up your mind and heart out of "the box".

We enjoy the pace of this place, exploring Maryland's history, the natural environment which surrounds the property, the sounds of birds, tall trees, listening to the water, noticing how the beach changes, kayaking, taking photographs, collecting stones and sea glass, chasing crabs, fishing, floating, swimming, taking walks, riding bikes, meeting and talking with neighbors, watching our friends and families’ children explore nature, run and play and learn to crab -- we have never had a "negative" experience here, we always feel better after having visited and we always miss it the minute we leave Holly Drive.

You may find that you miss The Hideaway once your visit ends too.
