Private comfortable rustic bungalow home where your backyard is the ocean. Beautiful oceanfront setting where the waves splash against your lanai. The master bedroom located about 35 feet from the ocean. Relax in your own pool touched by ocean spray. Yellow tangs (Lau'ipala) abound just on the other side of the seawall. Dophins (Nai’a) play beyond the reef and seasonal whales (koholā) cruise by.

We have one of the most amazing locations on the entire stretch of Alii Drive! We're the first residence overlooking Kahalu'u Bay. The south side of our property is bordered by Ku'emanu Heiau an ancient Hawaiian temple that is dedicated to the sport of surfing. Adjacent to the temple is the historical St. Peter's Little Blue Church & Kahalu'u Beach Park, one of the best snorkeling spots on the entire island and only a two minute walk.

We welcome all visitors to enjoy our 1960's retro Hawaiian style home. Although not fancy, our amazing comfortable family home comes with ocean-front living conditions in the tropics. Sunshine, tropical breezes, ocean spray and gorgeous sunsets! There are usually a few weeks in the summer/early fall of warm and humid temperatures, but overall Hawaii has pleasant weather throughout the year! We don't have air conditioning, but ceiling and portable fans and ocean breezes when needed. Experience aloha!

The house has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, overhead ceiling fans (no AC), large private covered lanai, sun area, outdoor hot/cold shower, BBQ with outdoor dining area and swimming pool (solar heated) next to the ocean. Laundry room and off-street parking (carport).

Our home has spectacular ocean views for sunsets and whale, dolphin, and surfer watching. Although close to shops, restaurants, and downtown Kailua-Kona, privacy is assured. Moku o Keawe (Big Island) is a wonderful place to swim, snorkel, dive, boat, fish, surf, sail, kayak, golf, hike, horseback ride, shop, volcano watch and star gaze. Amazing oceanfront home

This home has been decorated to give the feeling of a traditional Hawaiian home, with woven wall coverings and bamboo accents, and lots of carved wooden masks, vintage prints, and other fun decor. But the real star is the ocean, which is literally in the backyard! During our stay there was a storm and large swells so we had waves crashing against the sea wall and even over the wall on occasion! We also had calmer days when we walked a few hundred yards down the road to snorkel with colorful fish and sea turtles, and sat out on the lanai and watched people taking surfing lessons while we kept an eye out for the blows of humpback whales. The owner, Julie, was very responsive to any questions we had and gave us some great tips (ask her about feeding the eels). We plan to go back!

Perfect Views

We absolutely loved the location of Julie’s house. We spent every waking moment at the house on the back patio and pool enjoying sunset views and watching the surfers. Surfing and snorkeling are next door and it’s hard to imagine a better location. The house has great tiki bar vibe and was equipped with everything we needed. The house needs a little deep cleaning and love but you quickly forget about it when you step out on the back porch. I hope to stay there again.

One of a kind jewel

This home is amazing! You can sit on the back patio with morning coffee and watch the waves crash. Such a beautiful setting! It is the most relaxing time here! The home is private and comfortable. The owner is very responsive if you have questions and makes you feel very welcome. We would absolutely stay here again!

Location location location

Property was the perfect location as a “home base” as we attempted to squeeze in as much of the island as we could, in a short amount of time. Great to return back to the home located directly on the water. Sunset were amazing and the surf was wonderful to listen to late into the evening.

Peaceful and secluded but near all needed amenities

Thank you, Julie, for sharing your place in paradise! The location and set up of the house allowed us to completely unplug from everything and relax while still having access to everything we wanted for the vacation. I got to sit on the lanai by the pool and watch family surfing in the bay. Walking to amazing snorkeling was a highlight. One rainy night we drove the quick 5 mins to the movie theater and watched a new release we’d been eyeing. Such a perfect location — hope to be back next year!

The Deck and the View

Really enjoyed our stay here in Kona. Almost took up surfing... felt left out watching the Surfers having our morning coffee, and then finishing the day up watching them and the sunset with a glass of wine. The description for this property is accurate but the view and deck are underrated. I am usually skeptical of claims of ocean views when listed, but this house delivered. There is a lot of charm in this traditional Hawaiian styled bungalow, Julie was amazing and a couple or small family will really enjoy their stay here. Would book again next time we are in Kona.

The perfect location!

We absolutely loved our time on the Big Island and this house's location is incredible. Right next to snorkeling and a mellow surf break, and close to downtown. Julie was an excellent host and very responsive to questions. Super easy check in process and lots of great information provided beforehand. Will definitely rent this house again next time we are in Hawai'i!

Perfect spot on the Big Island

Great property right on the ocean. The house was perfect for our family of 4. It is close to the shops and town. The little bay next door is perfect for snorkeling, swimming and surfing. Lots of pots and pans and utensils for eating at home. Close to shopping center for pizza, sushi, Thai food etc. for take out or dining in. Wonderful lanai for eating and watching the sunset. Comfortable beds and lots of towels. Good showers and wifi.

Our first trip to Hawaii!

We absolutely loved the property! The location was the best in the area. We lounged by the pool everyday and watched the surfers and snorkelers. We saw sea turtles and so many yellow tangs right from the pool area. We loved to listen to the waves crashing on the rocks at night. The house was clean and decorated like an island tiki hut. Even though we chose not to cook, everything you would need to is there. It was great to have a washer and dryer on site too. Julie and David were great hosts. They had a small outside plumbing issue, that didn't effect us, and they attended to it right away. Very short drive to the main strip of shopping and restaurants. The sunsets were breathtaking! We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be coming back to the big island! We would rent this house again!

Great stay in paradise...

My wife and I had a great week at this rental. It backs right up to the ocean and has incredible sunsets every night. We would definitely rent this home again. Julie is very helpful through the whole rental process and was great to deal with. The only reason this is not 5 stars is that the pool needs a thorough cleaning. We still used the pool every day but it is fairly green at this point and needs to be scrubbed down. All in all you cannot go wrong with this rental. Mike - Omaha

This place had everything!

The house was very well equipped from cooking utensils, to beach toys, to bathroom necessities. Julie was VERY accommodating and was readily available to answer our questions. It was nice having a washer and dryer available. It would have been nice to have central air but I understand most homes don't have it. There were ceiling fans, floor fans and a nice breeze but coming from Michigan and 20 degree weather to 70 and 80 degree weather, it was warm by our standards.

Fantastic location in lovely Kona

This was our second stay here, so I guess that says it all. Julie's cozy Hawaiian house has all we need for our family of four. If you add the studio there's room for two more. The interior is very nicely done and clearly more personal with a distinct Hawaiian theme that you do not find in most other condos or houses that are up for rent in Kona. But most of all, the locaction is fantastic. While in Kona, you should make sure to travel around a bit a see all the musts on the Big Island, such as Mauna Kea, the volcano park etc. But if you feel like just relaxing and taking it easy, staying here will allow you to do just that. The only reason to leave the property will be do buy supplies at the nearby KTA. For the rest, you can enjoy Hawaii sunsets, turtles, palm trees, surf and corals right here. Simply perfect.

Entertaining Oceanfront Property

Great oceanfront house. Spent endless hours on the patio enjoying the view,whales,dolphins,surfers and snorkelers. Great pool and gardens too. The house has a great island feel. its stocked with everything you could need. The owner was awesome and very helpful answering any questions we had. Mahalo

Old but still can have fun !

My college buddy, Greg from Del Mar Calif. rented the studio for the second time this last December. I live in North Kona above the airport about 30 minutes away from Kahalu'u . Since I wanted to spend most of the week with Greg I decided to rent the house. Greg and I have been on many trips together and we always seem rushed! This trip was what we both agreed, the best yet. We surfed, snorkeled, walked, and generally relaxed. My sister in law and her husband came by almost everyday ! I live here and I would much rather stay in this very private house with it's own pool (love moonlight swims) and own bar b que than rent a crowded hotel room for MORE MONEY. I am going to rent the house for my son, daughter in law, grandson, and granddaughter next summer while I rent the studio for me !!! Love this place ! P.S. The owners and the caretaker are great people. ALOHA ! Jon

Fabulous house in a great location!

Just got back from our second stay at this property. I'm already dreaming of another visit. The house was perfect for our family of four. The master bedroom faces out to the ocean and I enjoyed waking to the waves every morning. The second bedroom with twin beds worked perfectly for our kids. There are ceiling fans in each room and they cooled the house down when needed. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed, although we didn't need much more than the BBQ. The views were so great from the lanai that we preferred to cook at 'home' and watch the views at sunset rather than eat out. There is a grocery store about 1.5 miles away that stocks everything you need. Just don't expect to get in and out fast- everyone is on 'Island Time'. The pool was a lot of fun. My kids enjoyed swimming before breakfast every day and then eating breakfast outside watching the surfers. They also played in it quite happily some afternoons and my husband I got to relax in the sun and read our books. There is amazing snorkeling just moments walk from the house. We really enjoyed snorkeling in the late afternoon and then walking home to cook dinner and watch the sunset. The washer and dryer are located outside in a little hut. It made doing laundry fun as you could hear the birds singing and the waves crashing whilst sorting your laundry. There is an outdoor shower which was great for hosing off the sand. The kids thought it was really cool to have a shower outside. The caretaker left us some fresh treats from a farm he takes care off. The kids were delighted to discover the fruits he had left. This visit he brought us fresh avocados and oranges. They were delicious. Last time he brought us bananas that tasted incredible. The location is great for everything in Kona as well as for day trips further afield.

Perfekt quiet home to relax

My Husband and I are often returning guests to this property. We live in Germany and every time we visit the Hawaiian islands we visit Big Island first. Every time we enter the house we fell at home. The setting is extraordinary, very close to the ocean. You can open the door from the Master bedroom at night and hear the ocean. During daytime you can swim in your private pool and watch the surfers just steps away. And of course you can watch beautiful sunsets. After snorkeling in the bay next to the house (you do not need a car to go for snorkeling, it is very near) you can take the outdoor shower and relax afterward on the shady lanai. The house is equipped very well for cooking and stocked with essentials such us oils,pepper, salt, herbs etc. And the washer and dryer are located outside befor the house in a small separate building, no noises are disturbing you in the house. My husband and I are always visting different islands while our vacation to Hawaii (minimum 3 weeks, it is a long way from Germany) and most islands we decide for different private accommodations each vacation. On Big Island we always decide for this property, because for us it is a perfect property to stay. We feel like coming home.

As close to the ocean as it gets

My husband and I stayed at Honu Kai Hale for 3 weeks and had a fantastic time. From the moment we opened the front door of the house we were in love with the place. You could not be closer to the ocean unless you had an over-water hut. The house is super bright with a lovely tiled backyard (there is a small grass area also) that includes a pool and ample space to eat and relax. We spent most of our time outside and had all our meals there. Your backyard is the ocean and the surf (one of the best surf spots in that area, as the pool guy confirmed) - you can watch surfers very closely and see nothing but beauty while chilling in a chaise lounge. Next door is a very good snorkel beach where we saw many turtles; also good for paddle boarding. It's the right mix of having peace and quiet but being close to things happening in the area. The house has anything you can think off(ok, a blender would have been good), but they have excellent knives, pots, cutting boards, bowls, table wear...we love to cook and this place made it very very fun and easy. Definitely top notch. The kitchen appliances are all top end, although the dish washer did not dry very well. The bed was very comfortable (good mattress) and roomy. The whole house is decorated in Hawaiian style with tons of memorabilia, pictures and other fun items that make it very cosy. Perfect for the location. There is a guest room (more of a kids room) with two separate beds that can be pushed together. There are plenty of towels for the bathroom, beach and kitchen. We brought our yoga mats and practiced in the back facing the ocean every morning, which was heaven. A snorkel gear rental shop is close by ($20 for the week!), as well as a KTA supermarket and little mall with a coffee shop, movie theatre etc (3 min in the car; 15 on foot). There is a car port, which is very convenient. Washer and dryer and a super gas BBQ with gas provided (thank you!). For kids, we saw boogie boards etc. for the pool available. The pool is great and super to cool down and do some water aerobics; not for labs. For us, this place was heaven. Hearing the waves crash at night, waking up to sunshine every day, being able to cook and having responsive owners; just amazing. It's a short drive to Kailua-Kona and there is so much to explore from this location, including the City of Refuge, Greenwell Coffee Tour or Yoga at Big Island Yoga. Hapuna and Mauna Kea beaches are only 45 minutes up the road. This is it!
