Catalina Island Dream Homes back house

As of May 2024: the home has been completely painted inside and out. All new LED lights throughout and new outdoor lighting for safety. Deep cleaning throughout including carpets and couch. New blinds installed where needed. New mattresses and box springs replaced where needed. We spent 7 weeks on the island to insure a safe, clean, and comfortable stay Perfect family getaway within walking distance to all Avalon has to offer, including the new Vons which is directly down the street, super convenient! Whether going to the beach, going to one of Avalon's great eateries, shopping, golfing, boating, snorkeling/diving, parasailing, or just sightseeing, this is the vacation home for you!

A beautiful mediterranean style home, with a warm and modern beach style interior. The master bedroom is large with a Cal King, fireplace, and a deck.

The second bedroom upstairs has two twins and a full.
There is a shared full bath in between with two sinks.

The third bedroom downstairs is a queen with the additional

The lower floor has a beautiful and easy to use full kitchen with granite countertops. The living area is an open concept which is great for entertaining or family time. There is a DCS natural gas barbecue right out the slider with a small table and chairs to relax.

There are televisions in each bedroom as well as the living room.




There are so many things going on on Catalina Island!

There is a marathon in March, an Art Festival in September, Jazz Festival in October, and so much more! Give us a call!

Location was fantastic! Nice condo and spacious. The floors could have used a good mopping but otherwise clean and comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer!

I’m not even sure where to begin. When we arrived the house was so dirty we cleaned and mopped before unpacking. There was blood on a comforter and door frame, empty beer cans in a dresser, and we didn’t take our shoes off the whole stay because of the filth. In addition to that, there weren’t any supplies- no WiFi, no beach towels, no hand soap, not enough coffee cups for the number of people, one wine glass, no opener, the dishes in the cabinet were dirty. I really can’t believe the state the house was in and that we actually paid for that.

This property was beautiful! Very spacious and aestheically appealing. Located at a very walkable distance from everything. The property was equipt with a variety of appliances and furniture, including a grill outside! However we did have a hassle turning it on so we decided not to use anymore. Other than that everything was amazing!

Great location,not much provided

The place was in a good location, plenty of space inside and a tiny outdoor patio with grill. Communication with the owner was great, and checkin was easy. The downsides were that nothing for the beach is provided- no beach towels, chairs, etc. The beds were pretty hard. No A/C but many fans were available. Also no shampoo or soap aside from hand soap is provided. But all around ok for an Avalon property.

Thank you for your review. We tried to supply beach towels and chairs but, after a couple rentals, all were gone. We do not provide shampoo as most people, especially women, tend to bring their own. Also, we really do try to take care of the environment and those little plastic bottles are a waste. The utilities are extremely high on the island and to have A/C, my rates would be at least double. I was born and raised on the island, 4th generation, and I try to keep my rates fair so families can enjoy. If you look at other rentals, they are much more expensive. The beds were replaced in April and are temperpedic which, my guests that return every year are thrilled with. Again, thank you for your review.

Best place we’ve stayed in 6 years visiting Avalon

Everything about this property was perfect and we hope to stay again and get the front unit as well for the rest of our family. We loved the location and not having to climb up the hill from town which we’ve done in the past (Metropole, Whittley) and it’s so close to Vons. It was super clean and spacious with comfortable beds and lots of towels and extra linens. The manager was incredibly accommodating allowing us to check in early and Eric, the caretaker was so friendly and kind! I messaged him to ask if we could leave our luggage at the property for a few hours on the day we were leaving and he called me to say it was okay and gave me great restaurant recommendations and tips for future travel to Catalina. Only downside to this property was the lack of internet wifi but not a deal breaker.

Nice family Home

The house is nice and in a very convenient location. Communication with the owner was frustrating. She didn't respond in a timely fashion. When she responded, it went very well. I didn't have the check-in information and finally had to contact VRBPO the day before we were to arrive.

Would have appreciated more on time response from owner—sent messages but VRBO had to contact her since she did not respond to questions. Once she did, response in time. Appreciated comments from previous renter about faucets and end of beds that can hurt your leg. Appreciated beach toys. Von within walking distance which was great!

Walkable area

The house was spacious but was lacking a few things to make me be able to rate it higher. For a property that sleeps 8, the kitchen was not well stocked for utensils, cookware, tableware etc. There was no cutting board and the kitchen counters were tile. If you don’t plan on using the kitchen much it would have been fine

Avalon condo review

Location was great. Unit was a good match for our needs. Comfortable furniture. Very clean. However, there was no face cloths,paper towels,tissues,toilet paper,washing soap and bath mats. There were two cracked wine glasses. No end tables in downstairs bedroom or next to couch in living room. The caretaker Eric was good. And the owner did respond with a delivery of missing linen. Overall had a good time and enjoyed this condo after we purchased needed items.

Property needs updating!

Beds/mattresses ..absolutely awful!!! Need new ones. Dining chair & couch/ old stains, need to update. Shower upstairs, faucets broken; water dripping. Great location but definitely not worth the money we paid

Great house

The house was nice and big . We had a great stay. There was a few things that we were not a fan of. Usually there are napkins or paper towels but we had to go buy some. There was no soap at all in the showers just hand soap, so we had to go buy all that stuff. The master bed was very uncomfortable and you would just sink in when you would sit on it. Also was very loud getting on and off. We were not a fan of having to wash our own dishes and put away because we are just relying on the people before to wash the dishes and I don’t think that’s very sanitary.

Great location, poor owner

Location is awesome, Amy (Karen of property owners) horrible. Stay went well, would not have complained until owner decided to be a Karen. Amy emailed me a week after we checked out complaining we broke her shower valves, all while stating she just had everything replaced prior to our stay. (Sounds like shotty plumbing work to me) Valves were broke upon our arrival, but being a handy guy I showed my guests how to use in the mean time and did not complain. While staying there also fixed her surround sound that was not wired, fixed her DVD player that lacked the proper cables, never could figure out the direct tv that didn’t work, and purchased our own batteries for the fan remote that someone decided they needed more. Would have been a 4 star stay until the accusations starting flying, but here we are, don’t throw rocks in a glass house. And find a new rental if you want a perfect stay.

Unfortunately, false! I was just staying in the home prior to his arrival, the valves were not broken! We had just had all the plumbing fixtures replaced in anticipation of Summer. I’ve been renting my homes for almost two decades. I guess there’s a first for everything, including being called a “Karen.”

Needs Improvement

I will start off with the few positives about our stay.. great location and the host did let us check in early. Other than the two positives, I would not recommend staying at this property. The communication from the host was awful from the beginning—they mixed up our reservation dates, which caused a lot of confusion and stress. Once we arrived, things only got worse. The place was infested with ants; they were everywhere, including in our food and even got inside our luggage. To make matters worse, there was no air conditioning, making the stay uncomfortable, especially during the hot days. We anticipated Wi-Fi ( as everywhere I have ever stayed accommodated this) and then was told they do not provide it, and all the TVs in each room did not work. To top it all off, the host had the nerve to charge us extra for getting WHITE towels dirty—something that happens naturally when you're staying somewhere! The location was the only redeeming quality, but that wasn't enough to make up for the poor experience overall. Stay somewhere else if you can.

Wow, talk about contradicting yourself. I had called the guest before their stay because I was not seeing their reservation as there was a glitch with VRBO’s calendar. During our conversation, which lasted less than 10 minutes, their reservation was there and clear. I informed her she was all set and not to worry. Mind you, I have been doing this for over two decades. During that conversation, the guest asked me if they could have any early check in which I obliged as there were no guests checking out the day of their arrival. I had no further communication with the guest during their stay. Upon their departure, my crew sent me a video of the towels that they had used. I asked if that was vomit on the towels as they were yellow, orange, black, ect. To which my crew responded “we don’t know but, it looks as if they used them for everything.” I charged the guest a VERY minimal amount for the towels that needed to be replaced. To which, I had to purchase and take over to the island. Of course they were “WHITE” towels for sanitary purposes. ?? When the guest messaged me that she was upset about the charge, I explained the reason to her which she then messaged back saying that it’s just makeup and they had cleaned the entire house before leaving so my crew didn’t have to do much? Hm As far as ants go, it sounds like they brought them with them? Since they had just arrived and they were in their food and luggage? It is clear in our listing, no A/C or WIFI.

Great location; nothing extra

Wonderful location; easy walk to most activities. It has the basics, but nothing to make you feel welcome/at home. We would have appreciated a book with local recommendations as well as instructions for using the grill, fans, tv, etc. It’s the little things that help make us feel welcome or not: such as kitchen was not stocked for actual meal preparation (no cutting board, only one knife besides the table knives, minimal storage or serving bowls, etc.). The kitchen sponges were nasty looking; new individually wrapped ones would go a long way….or at least having a dish cloth. The auto start on the BBQ grill is not working and requires matches or a lighter which are not provided. The manager told us to purchase some if we wanted to use it; we left our lighter for the next guests. Some blankets to use while resting on the couches would be inviting us to curl up and relax. And it was very HOT; there is no a/c so it would have been nice to have the windows open and the fans running in anticipation of our arrival. Luggage storage is crazy expensive at the dock; despite what some reviewers noted, we were told that we could not use the patio to store our bags either before official check in or after check out. The remote did not work for one of the lights/fans so we kept having to switch the working battery into the remote we needed. And there were crumbs/hair in the upstairs drawers. Despite these “little things” with realistic expectations, we would stay again.
