Located on one of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches on the East Coast. Moondance is located semi-oceanfront, on a cul-de-sac, in a very quiet neighborhood, in Salvo. Beach access is just across the cul-de-sac and the beach is a short 3 minute walk down the boardwalk. The sound is also a short, 5 minute walk down Farrow Dr., where you can find Hatteras Watersports that rents kayaks, standup paddleboards and other water sports equipment.

Moondance sits on a half acre, corner lot, which provides plenty of open space for viewing the sunrises and sunsets from the deck. The large, fenced yard will allow you to let the dog out in the morning without having to go out with them.

The private pool provides a great alternative to the beach and the hot tub is right beside the pool. One of our favorite things about the house is sitting in the hot tub on a clear night. The star views on Hatteras are amazing and you have a wide viewing area from the hot tub. Other outside amenities include an outdoor shower, a large basketball court, a gas grill, a charcoal grill and fish cleaning table.

The first floor has four bedrooms and two baths. The beds in the two main bedrooms are a king bed and a queen and these two bedrooms share a jock and jill bath. Bedroom number three has two twin beds and number four has two sets of bunks and these bedrooms share a hall bath. Three of the bedrooms have a TV (only the bunk room doesn't). The deck on this floor also has a comfortable swing and adirondack chairs for relaxing.

The upstairs great room includes the kitchen, half bath, as well as living and dining areas. The wet bar has a commercial ice maker and provides extra space for making cocktails. There are two dining tables with seating for 10, plus 7 bar stools between the kitchen bar and the wet bar. The kitchen is very well stocked for nights when you want to stay in and cook.

The deck on the top floor was replaced in 2022 and provides adirondack and captain chair seating to take in the views and ocean breezes. There are gates on both decks that provide a convenient way to keep pets contained while they enjoy the outdoors.

Other updates to the house in time for the 2023 season include all new stainless steel appliances, sofa, loveseat and other furniture

Beach chairs and umbrellas are also provided.

The house has a cozy feel and is beautiful. Decks are spacious and a great place to watch the sun come up. There are restaurants and shops near by, beach is a short walk and not crowded at all. We loved the house and the area.

Wonderful relaxing stay.

Atmosphere was calm, relaxing, the sound of the surf was great always present. The pool and hot tub worked out great after a day at the beach. We would def come again!

Family vaca

This place is great. Well stocked kitchen and very clean. We were there with my grandchildren and daughter and son in law. The kids enjoyed both the pool and hot tub. Their favorite part was crab hunting on the beach at night. Being an owner of a lodge we were pleased with everything. One thing though lots of stairs if you can’t do stairs it is not for you!

Great property, easy walk across the dunes to the ocean or the other direction to the sound (can rent kayaks, paddleboards and jet skis across Hwy 12 at Hatteras Watersports) Centrally located with easy drives to all the landmarks north and south. Great restaurants all within 15 mile drive. House was clean, well appointed and as advertised. Nice pool and hot tub. Great outdoor shower for rinsing off after the beach. Living room furniture with pillows and blankets all very comfortable. Decks with plenty of furniture to relax. Laundry on site was a nice to have. Lots of steps to top floor but manageable. Host was easy to deal with and made great recommendations, especially good communicating with the hurricane evacuation orders. A few small issues arose around the house with the pool, hot tub and plumbing but all were very quickly resolved.Would stay again!

OBX Adventure

Great location with a short walk to the beach. Hot tub was clean and perfect way to unwind at the end of the day. Great morning sun from the deck to enjoy the view with coffee.

Excellent Trip

Perfect Beach Stay

The house was centrally located and had everything we needed for our week stay. The pool/hot tub were great alternatives to spending everyday on the beach, and the gates on the deck were perfect at holding in our dog (and our toddler too!). I'd highly recommend Moondance to anyone who is looking for an OBX getaway.

Great family trip to OBX!

This was by far one of our best trips to the OBX. This property was exactly as described and well above expectation's. The property provided almost anything a family would need for a weeks stay and trips to the beach. The property owner was responsive and accommodating. We highly recommend this property.

House was welcoming and comfortable!! Great short walk to the beach. Pool was clean and refreshing. Hot tub was perfect, especially on a clear night. Views from the porch were wonderful. The breeze at night and sound of the ocean was incredibly relaxing!!

Quiet beach getaway

The beach access is nice, the area was quiet. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The only complaint we had was that when the kids were running around, the whole house seemed to shake, we hadn’t experienced that at other houses in the outer banks but overall the house did what we needed it to do.

Fam Beach Getaway

House was dated, but very clean. The main living area was an open floor plan with access to a full large size upper deck. Some of the unique features we liked were the separate bar in the main living area, gates on the deck entrances large eating area, large drive, easy access to the beach, and nice hot tub with pool.

What we hoped would be

First vac in 5 years. Not disappointed. Even our dog enjoyed the time away from home. Best time of the year to visit this area. Less of a crowd and weather was wonderful

Just right!

Mondance was a delightful house for our 3 day, 3 generation family beach weekend. The top floor is open kitchen/dining/living space. Kitchen is well appointed. The bedrooms downstairs were fine for our configuration. Moondance is a short walk to the beach, and easy access to gas, bait and necessities. Mike the owner was very outgoing and helpful and we had a nice volley of messages. We'd definitely return to Moondance for a future visit to OBX.

Beautiful Home... location is Heaven

Four adults over 50 who needed a break from the rat race. We had the most relaxing week. The owner Mike was great, kept up communication with me throughout. He's right, the beach is one of the finest on the east coast and only a minute walk away. The stars are incredible at night. We had a full moon come in halfway through the week which made for a cool tie in since the house is called Moondance. I took a lot of pictures. Pool and hot tub were great-its where we logged some time in the sun. Beds were comfortable and the house was stocked with all the appliances you could need. The outdoor shower was great to get the sand off before we headed upstairs. Would highly recommend staying here.

Peaceful, Convenient and Relaxing

Our family had a wonderful, relaxing week at Moondance. It was a short walk to the beach (we brought a wagon to carry our chairs, etc.) The beach was not crowded and was pristine. The house had plenty of space for us (9 adults and our 15-month-old grandson). The living area was comfortable and the dining table fit all of us for our meals. We had delicious pizza from Leonardo’s, and ice cream from the local creamery 1 block away. Beds were super comfortable! And the neighborhood was quiet. The pool and hot tub were a fun way to relax after a day in the ocean. The upper deck was perfect for stargazing. And the lower deck has a relaxing swing for 2. I would definitely recommend this property to a large group!

Home away from Home

Had a great time. The location was fantastic quick walk to beach and short drive to bay beach. Bay beach is perfect for little kids shallow and calm waters so parents can relax and enjoy themselves too. The deck was great for unwinding after a long day at the beach (played the travel scrabble on the deck since the tiles clicked into the board then just passed the board down the row of chairs). The great room was comfortable for everyone to spend time together (games and puzzles included, Netflix for the kids). Sunday check in/out made travel a breeze no traffic. Beach chairs, nice beach umbrellas that screw into the sand and beach cart, Only gripe was the beach cart was on its last leg, we made due by using bungee cords to hold the chairs up. We were very comfortable here we didn’t want to leave. Next year we will plan for two weeks.

Great house and great location

Loved the house. Don’t let it concern you it’s not directly on the beach since there is a path directly across the street that leads to the beach and the beach front homes still have dunes between them and the ocean anyway. You can also hear the waves from the house which is great. House has 2 decks with lots of seating and a great porch swing. Hot tub was great and pool looked great but we knew it would be too early in season to use. Plenty of comfortable seating in living room and 2 tables so plenty of seating if a larger group. We had only 4 people total! Owner also allowed us to bring our very well behaved Border Collie. I was afraid a house that allowed dogs might smell since not all dogs behave but no dog smell at all. Owner very quick to respond to any questions. Beach is also great and very few people when we went and beach allows leashed dogs.

Great property, close to the beach but no real ocean view.

This is a great property that was well maintained and cleaned. It is located in a culdesac with an access to the beach. The upper floor had a great kitchen, a large table that sat 8, and a smaller table that had 4 chairs and was perfect for puzzles. There was couch seating for 5 and 3 chairs. There was a bar area and lots of great art. The lower floor had 4 rooms. The queen and king are jack and Jill style with a bathroom. The twin rooms (2 and 4) have a bathroom between them with a laundry directly outside. The upper and lower decks are gated and work well with dogs and both floors get a great breeze. The hall bath fan wasn't working and it wasn't possible to take a bath because of the faucet. The only reason I wouldn't give this house a 5 star is that the ocean view in the listing can only be seen from a tiny spot on the top floor and you can't see anything worthwhile.

All in One

Overall, we were very happy with our stay at Moondance. the communication with the owner was excellent, from suggesting to get travel insurance ahead of hurricane season to timely responding to al of our questions. The property has everything one needs to have a comfortable beach vacation. The house and pool area were clean, kitchen is well equipped with pots and dishes, upper deck area has a gate (an absolute plus when traveling with a toddler) and the hot tub is a pure heaven. House is in the 2nd row from the beach. You may see a narrow line of ocean from sitting on a high chair on the top deck (you'll mostly see the dunes) but you will surely hear the magnificence of the ocean if you leave your doors open when going to bed. Salvo is about 15 min drive from Avon, where the big grocery store ( Food Lion) and many restaurants and coffee shops are. A couple of things to bring with you: towels, dish soap (there is a dishwasher machine too!!), sponge, plastic wraps, foil etc Things we wish were there: gas grill. The house has a picnic area charcoal type of grill in front of the house. It would be just so much easier to have a gas grill. We absolutely loved our stay at Moondance and hope to be back next year!!

Absolutely lovely!

We stayed at Moondance the week of May 21st through May 28th, 2017. The home was beautiful, especially the top floor. It was very large and open, and was perfect for family gatherings. We loved the beachy furniture and décor as well. The kitchen was truly well equipped. We even found a crock pot, which we didn't expect. Although I come to the outer banks for the beaches, it was really nice having a pool and hot tub at the house! A definite plus! The views from the decks are breathtaking, and some of our family members captured some great photos. It is an easy walk to the beach, which was lovely, and not crowded the week we were there. We saw only a few people, many with their dogs, enjoying the peace and quiet. We did experience some bad weather during our trip, but one evening our family enjoyed "game night", which was a lot of fun. The owner was very nice and accessible, and we definitely would consider renting this house again! Our only issue is that we have two elderly dogs, and the stairs going from the first floor to the second, were a little difficult for them to maneuver. Also, I would suggest any future renters just check with their cell phone companies concerning their coverage. Some of us had issues with roaming. It's a great house in a lovely neighborhood!

Beautiful/Relaxing Family Vacation

Booking: Very easy Mike was super helpful. Cleanliness: The house was extremely clean from top to bottom. Ground Floor: Lots of parking, Outdoor Shower, Basketball Hoop, Basketballs, and 6-8 Beach Chairs Pool/Hot Tub: Newer Chairs from pictures, spacious, helpful handlebar to lift hot tub lid. 1st Floor: Stairs to the left, Queen bed to the right, Twin Beds across the hall, Bathroom to the left across the hall washer and dryer, Twin Bunkbeds to the left King to the right. King and Queen share a bathroom and each room has a sliding glass do to the deck. Spacious and comfortable 2nd Floor: Kitchen has everything you could need, plenty of space for everyone to lounge, but still hang out together, 2 sliding glass doors to the deck. Deck: Both floors have gates, you cannot see the ocean from the top deck, but you can hear it. Area Around Property: Plenty of grass for the dogs and a short walk to the beach. Complaint: This can’t really be fixed, but the neighbors that we had at the time didn’t put their dogs on leashes and their dogs would run into our yards thankfully, our dogs were up on the deck with the gate closed when these incidents happened and thankfully my dogs like other dogs but if you bring a dog that doesn’t quite like other dogs, I’d be on the watch out for the surrounding dogs to come into your yard because more than one did. Overall: We had a great vacation, the house was very nice and we can’t wait to go to the outer banks again!!! I highly recommend!!

Summer vacation

The Salvo Beach house provided a perfect low key vibe for our family vacation. We needed a fenced in yard and private pool and this property had both. The short walk to the beach was fantastic! My two teenagers were able to disconnect along with the two of us and just enjoy the house. The drives to the grocery store or other activities offered a nice change of pace from time to time as we were there for almost 2 weeks. But most of our time was either in the pool or on the beach. Would definitely stay again if the opportunity presents itself.

We live in Cary, NC so we are only about three and a half hours from our house. We try to get down to Hatteras as often as possible to fish, hang in the sun or just have fun on the water. Some of the things we like best about Hatteras are the laid back surfer/fishing vibe, the great local restaurants (no chains here), access to really clean waters and the natural environment found there. If you're a bird watcher, you will especially like late fall at Pea Island.

We looked for several months and found the perfect property. It's second row, so the ocean is just across the cul-de-sac. The lot is huge so we had room to add the pool and still have room to grow. And the beach itself in front of the house is one of the finest I have ever seen.

Our corner lot provides really good views. We are close to everything in the tri-villages but you feel very secluded in a small, quiet neighborhood.
