This was our third time staying at Absentminded. We love the location to the beach, restaurants and shops. It has everything you need for making family memories on a beautiful and quiet island.

Great family vacation! The property was clean and stocked with everything we needed for cooking and the beach. Great location near restaurants and short walk to the beach. We especially loved the screened pool area!

Wonderful stay!The pool area was ideal. Plenty of pool toys. Ping pong and connect four were a big plus!Beds are comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed for making and serving meals. Plenty of beach gear with big wagons to pull a short walk to beautiful quiet beaches. Location is so convenient and close to EVERYTHING!

We cannot say enough about our beautiful relaxing time spent at Absentminded! The home is beautifully decorated with fun island vibe decor and had everything we could possibly need from beach toys and floats for our grandchildren and a fully appointed kitchen for drinks and dinners on the covered pool deck. I especially loved my morning tea on the master suite balcony. Communication with the owners was amazing as well. Thank you for sharing your beautiful vacation home with us the memories will last a lifetime!

Family vacation

Beautiful property just a short walk to restaurants and the beach. We had plenty of room for all five of us. We really enjoyed all shells on the beach and the pool. Definitely recommend going on a dolphin sighting cruise or fishing trip.

We agree with you re renting boats to fish or just explore. On almost every visit to Absentminded we either rent a boat or book an excursion to visit one of the neighboring islands...North Captiva, Cabbage Key, Useppa Island, Cayo Costa State Park. I don't remember a time that we did not see several dolphins on our trip and/or manatees. Both Captiva Marinas (Jensen' and McCarthy's Marina) are roughly a block away and the bigger Captiva Cruises books out of South Seas Resort. Our other favorite go to activity is rent kayaks to explore the mangroves ...either at Tween Waters or at Tarpon Bay.

Great Location and House

Enjoyed the stay as the house was equipped with everything you will need for the beach and lots of stuff for the pool as well. The two wagons made the short five minute walk a lot easier in the heat and the kids loved the shovels and beach gear that was left in the garage. Will stay again if we come back to Captiva!

Absentminded on Captiva

We found the property to be very well-equipped, spacious, and clean. Carol was a superb hostess, very helpful and easy to reach. We can't thank her enough for making this a special stay.

Great beach trip

Very nice house fully stocked for the beach going group. Location close to shopping; restaurants but brought everything with us to Captiva. We have 11 ppl; all were very well accommodated. Only the screen over the pool was not in place during our stay in July. Carol is great!

Perfect location

The house was exactly as portrayed. Walkable area for restaurants and shops. Sunrise and sunset in a few minutes walk. Beautiful outside pool area. Very clean. Royal Shell was promptly responsive with an issue with the grill. Family of 6

Great week with family

My husband and I were so glad to have the week of spring break with our son and his family. This home worked out perfectly with my husband and I downstairs and our son and his family upstairs. The kids loved the pool and games and we all loved the proximity to the beach , shops and restaurants. The house was welll furnished and had everything we needed to fix meals together and just enjoy our time. 5 stars!

Fantastic Family Holiday

We could not have been happier with our stay! The property and the "supplies" were more than we knew we needed. The house was immaculate and all the comforts of home. Close to the beach and in our minds, the best spot for miles. Carol was always quick to respond and extremely helpful. Our family agrees it was our best trip ever. We hope to be back!!

Perfect family home

Perfect house for our family. Short one block walk to the beach. Just a few steps to the store. Patio with a roof for those quick Florida showers. Restaurants if you want within easy walking distance. Plenty of space to spread out in the house. Owners thought of everything to make our beach days Perfect. We did not lack for beach toys, coolers, or chairs at the beach. Perfect!

After a delayed entry-we checked in at the office and retrieved keys shortly before 5pm and were informed that due to heavy storms that morning there had been flooding of some properties (not this one) and we should wait for a text from an inspector before we entered the property. We waited until 6pm, two hours past our check-in time, then called the emergency number. We were told we could enter the property and that the inspectors did not work past 5pm. We certainly understand emergency situations, but we believe this inconvenience could have been avoided with better communication. This is NOT a poor reflection on the home. It was lovely and the elevator was appreciated by older travelers. The pool area was ideal for gathering and the landscaping created a tropical vibe. The kitchen, dining, and living areas were spacious and comfortable for our group of eight. The windows and balcony areas seemed to bring the outdoors in, while the screened lanai kept unwanted visitors out. The bedrooms were comfortable and provided ample space and privacy. The garage was stocked with numerous beach chairs and a cart for hauling items to the beach. The second refrigerator in the garage was a plus! We rented golf carts and were able to explore the area, although there were several restaurants and shops within walking distance. A few chartered a fishing excursion, while others enjoyed shelling on several of the beaches. Captiva is a lovely area and we will consider visiting again.

Hi Karen. Thank you for your honest and informational review. I was unaware of your difficulties in checking in and will take that up with the management company. There is never a situation in which you should be left without a clear plan for check-in and you should not have had to wait that long to get into the house. Amazing time reconnecting with Captiva!!

The house was spectacular! Better than advertised and photographed. It looks like a major remodel was completed since the last pics were taken and everything was top notch. The outdoor area and pool were phenomenal. The kids loved it and swam for 5+ hours everyday. The house was loaded with beach essentials. My 6 year old caught an amazing snook just around the corner. Carol the host and Royal Shell were a winning combo. Can’t wait to come back!

Superlative in Every Way

Lovely layout in this home with its 4 king sized bedrooms (plus a comfortable den with trundle bed). The house was thoughtfully designed, from the lower level poolside lounging area, to the beautifully decorated main living area with updated fully equipped kitchen and separate large dining room, and up to the third level gorgeous master bedroom plus two more bedrooms all with private bathrooms. The house is also perfectly situated, with easy walking distance to the beach, shopping, and restaurants. The owners have also equipped the house with beach and pool accessories and plenty of enjoyable games. We were charmed by Captiva, and LOVED our time in this home!

Life long friends' annual vacation

Absentminded welcomes its guests with a warm and homey atmosphere. It meets all comforts beautifully from the spacious and great mattresses in the five-bedroom suites to the well-equipped kitchen The living room space is perfect for gathering. The pool area and half bath by the entrance is a fantastic feature, as is the one car garage space. It allows four vehicles to be parked. We loved the replete turtle theme and the signs in each bathroom ;). Lots of good times were had by all guests. All best to the hosts for their future Captiva life. The house could not have been cleaner. We had zero complaints about that. The pool area was the same. We had an issue with the lights by the pool one evening and they sent someone out the next day, answering my message about it immediately. The kitchen has everything you could need. The only issue we had with the kitchen was that there were no empty cabinets to store purchased food. They were all filled with plates. The drawers had plates in them too so that was odd, but we managed! Ended up putting everything on the counter and table that we weren’t using. There is a breakfast nook and a full dining table, as well as barstools, so there was plenty of room for everyone to sit and eat. There is also a second large fridge in the garage so that was nice. We had teens with us this year and they loved the pool. It is a decent size, very clean, and they have everything you could want to use in it. There were lots of floats, goggles, even life jackets. Our family enjoyed the giant jenga, ping pong, and the giant connect 4 they had as well. They also have everything you could need for the beach; 10 beach chairs, sand toys, umbrellas, coolers, 2 nice beach wagons, bikes, etc. It’s a bit of a walk to the beach but we had such a great time at that area of the beach-Very few people and tons of sea life! A dolphin swam by about 10 feet from us, saw groups of small stingrays, sand dollars, and the beautiful shells were endless. We would gladly stay here again!

Absentminded

Great location - great stay. We truly enjoyed our time at Absentminded. We love Captiva, and this was our first stay at this property. It was clean, decorated really nicely, and had all the amenities that we were looking for. My wife is in a powered wheelchair, and the elevator access to all the house was perfect! A couple of notes though for future guests - First, there were no staples in the kitchen. Not even salt and pepper... So be prepared to buy everything you'll need to cook with. A few small items would make a big difference. Second, the screened in pool/backyard, as shown in the property pictures, isn't screened in. I can understand that Ian damaged it, but the listing should be updated so people aren't expecting it. Other than those small items, everything was great! We were unfortunate in the weather while we were there though - a forming tropical depression hovered over Captiva for four of the days we were there. Massive rains that eventually overflowed the pool...

Absentminded is everything it promises and more!

We booked this a year in advance and we were blown away with location on Captiva- can walk everywhere! We loved the amazing gorgeous upgrades to the home not even pictured yet, The home is even more beautiful than pictured online and more spacious than can be perceived in photos. The house was sparkling clean and a decent starter set of items. We loved all the beach (wagons, sifters, chairs, surf boards) and games ( jenga was always in evenings and giant connect 4) & grill amenities. All questions we asked before our stay were answered so kindly. We actually met the owners as they were leaving on our way in finishing the absolutely stunning pool deck remodel- so lovely and helpful. Excited about all the work put into their home. Just be aware the lanai is not present that is pictured and you need bug spray. Even with fans, mosquitoes were relentless, especially if really susceptible to them. No sitting outside for morning coffee on decks without spray. I know they are in the works to remedy that and it is a huge task. There is so much construction on the recovering island. It did not take away from our joy in loving the stay-just part of the review. We loved that on the end of the street to the right a block was sunrise and just a few blocks to the left was beach and breathtaking sunsets. 4 huge spacious bedrooms with bath & the little study with trundle bed was a treat for the little. You have so much to offer in your home. Thanks so much. Can't wait to stay again.

Amazing Week in Captiva

Stayed for a week at Absentminded with my wife and our 4 kids of varying ages. We had an amazing time. The house is beautiful and had plenty of space to spread out. it's very close to the village but the landscaping beautifully surrounds the property so you feel you are away from it all as well. The house had everything you could need. It even had coolers that we used for a charter fishing trip that we went on. Carol was easy to communicate with and was very helpful with information prior to our arrival as well as during our trip. this trip was for our daughter's sweet 16 and it was one to remember.
