The property was just what we wanted & hoped for. Great views across the ocean & beautiful sunsets.The aoartment was great with fans in each room, it was spacious and didnt get too warm during the day. There were extensive cooking facilities and lots of little extras that you would have at home.The bed was super comfy (a black out curtain would help though), bathroom was good with a nice large shower.Plenty of parking & the location wise was about 20min walk to the pier area.All in all we had a great stay and love this placed. If we could, we'd definitely want to teturn here.

Just a week off!

Enjoyed the Kona Reef once again! Great location and nice BBQ's and pool area. Too sit out on the Lania and take in the sites and sounds of the Ocean. This what i enjoy! Walks down Alli dr. Are wonderful! Will be back again!

Wonderful location right on the ocean

Overall, a fantastic spot if what you’re looking for is an oceanfront and great access to town with shops and restaurants a short walk away. It’s a modest property that could use a little updating but it has everything you’ll need (including a room fan to help the cooler living room air reach the warm bedroom) for a beautiful Kona vacation. Mahalo!

A GREAT place to stay

Our 10 day stay @ Kona Reef D-37 was wonderful. We loved being here. Comfortable unit with everything we needed. Beautiful… amazing view. Good A/C in the living room. Great ceiling fan in the bedroom. Washer and dryer in the unit makes arriving home so much easier. No laundry to do after a long trip. Location was perfect. Close to everything. Check-in was easy. Parking was great. So appreciative of the owners making this available. We loved it here!!

Kona Reef D37

The place was nice. The view is great. I would make a suggestion to the owner to maybe purchase some plastic plates or something so you can have dinner down at the bbq area since they don’t allow glass. The main bed and the fold out bed are horrible and should be replaced. The runner carpets in hallway and kitchen are in desperate need of cleaning. Only other suggestion would be some nice beach chairs and a usable ice chest would be nice. For the cost of rental I think they could afford more than a styrofoam ice chest. Overall a great place to stay.

Incredible view

Great location. The homeless camp at the driveway is an eye sore. The bedroom carpet was disgusting. Looks like blood or wine stains. Bed was comfortable. Great views. Close to town. Comfy furniture. Have to take stairs after the elevator. Had problem with management Co. Sending us an email saying we smoked in the unit. Took time to straighten that out. It was meant for previous guest.

Great place

The lanai is wonderful and is where we spent our time when in the condo during our 8 night stay. King bed comfortable. Plenty of fluffy white towels and 4 beach towels for 2 people. Essentials in the kitchen and we grilled fresh fish several evenings (recommend KTA grocery stores for fish). Some dishes in the kitchen were dirty and had to bleach the coffee mugs because they were so crusted. The condo was clean but needs a deep clean (very dusty behind furniture, top of drapes in bedroom, pantry shelves). Really appreciated the portable chairs, umbrellas, binoculars and The Big Island Revealed book. A must have for driving around the island. Plenty of parking. Pool area clean and lots of chairs. We would stay again. Mahalo!

Paying for only the view

The place was a great size and a great location with a beautiful view. However the place is outdated with a couple upgrades. The tv is not a smart tv, so no Netflix, YouTube or steaming of any kind even with mobile device. The place is clean in common places, but is dirty up above, in oven and under chair in living room. They give only 1 ply toilet paper and the bedroom never gets dark. I took pics of everything. This was the third time to the island and have stayed in the same place the last couple times. With this place you are paying for the view. Cleanliness is not a priority which is a deal for me.

Average Condo in Kona - Beware Location Accuracy

Since it had obviously been a while since my last time in Kona, I did my due diligence & did a LOT of research before booking a place to stay during my time on the Big Island. My companion knew that I was reading 2022 travel books, researching online, so she deferred to me. What we found at Kona Reef was meh to a disappointment. In the end, my friend & I felt lied to, & I was embarrassed that it looked like I chose a less-than-ideal place for us: -The condo DEFINITELY showed signs of wear-&-tear. There was a huge crack in the ceiling in the closet, there was what looked like dirt/mold on the blurry bathroom mirror, I could go on & on. It was serviceable, but definitely something I was embarrassed to write home about. Most egregiously, if we weren't enjoying the accommodations for the insides, we hoped we would at least have the outside & location. We did not. At the time of booking (& I confirmed this with a friend of mine who is a pseudo-travel agent), VRBO showed the property on the map as very close to the Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel side of Ali'i Dr, near/on the main downtown strip. We purposefully chose this condo because there were sites & restaurants that we wanted to try near that hotel, & we didn't want to deal with parking/reparking - we wanted everything to be walking distance. We were shocked to discover that the condo was not as advertised, but was actually close to the Royal Kona Resort, MUCH further down on Ali'i & not at all like on the map the listing showed. My friend has a back problem, so this location (25-40 mins walking) was NOT walking distance from the sites we wanted to visit, so we were forced to deal with parking, parking fees, all of that - the things we wanted to avoid in the 1st place. For how much we paid, & with ALL the VRBO fees, I expected to get what was advertised on the listing, & we simply did not. Frankly, it was embarrassing for me to try & explain to my friend why we were staying somewhere that didn't match with our expectations, & I feel lied to by VRBO. I make frequent trips to Hawaii, & I have never felt lied to/not gotten what I paid for. It was one of the most "meh" condos I've stayed at (definitely in need of multiple touch ups), but on top of that, I felt swindled. I'm embarrassed & upset, & I hope this review helps others to NOT be taken by a listing that simply doesn't match up with the reality, which is why I will not be recommending VRBO to family and friends.

Aloha Andrew, Mahalo for taking the time to leave a review on your stay in our property. When viewing the listing, it's photos, and descriptions - D37 is not advertised as an updated unit. We manage units in all price points and those that are more cost friendly are primarily older units. However, all of our properties are up-kept and professionally cleaned. The unit is still ocean front which does also factor in to the rate. The "dirt/mold on the blurry bathroom mirror" are most likely mirror spots that commonly develop in ocean front properties due to the high salt content in the air. As for the crack in the closet ceiling, we'll be assessing this. We weren't aware of that. In the future, when booking please call our office - we are here on island and have more knowledge of the area than a travel agent would. The online maps are not always accurate although the address we input is correct. This is why we specifically advise not to follow Google maps or GPS in our check in directions. Kona Reef is close to a handful of restaurants and shops within 5-minutes walking distance but we would have been happy to find a property closer to the area of your preference. Amazing location and more amazing views!

I literally did hours of research before deciding on this property and was not disappointed! I chose this property because of the amazing view and its proximity and walking distance into town. The management company and check in process was flawless. They did a great job communicating ahead of time and answered all of my questions. The condo is exactly as described and the view is absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed watching the surfers and were able to enjoy the sunset right from our balcony. I don’t think there is a spot in town that has a better view. The location of the condo was perfect walking distance into town for a drink, shops and lots of restaurants. Also Loved that we were right next-door to a small beach

Great stay!

Our stay in this location was great! The view from the balcony was so beautiful! We spent a lot of time enjoying the view and the sound of the ocean. The condo was comfortable and in a great location. Walking distance to downtown Kona and convenient to all the sights on this side of the Island.

Great location and Gorgeous views!

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Kona Reef. It was a quick walk to downtown Kona and the views from our lanai were so beautiful! We saw surfers everyday, paddle boarders, parasails, and every size of boat from kayaks to a cruise ship. My only recommendation would be to add a mattress topper to the bed as it is a bit too firm.
