I want to address the communication issue directly. We work with a concierge service that consistently earns top reviews, but the weeks before your arrival coincided with Maui’s worst flooding since the 1950s. Power was out island-wide for extended periods. My own home was dark for 52 hours, and some of our team had flooding at their homes as well. Most roads were closed. On this little island, 3,000 miles from the nearest continent, when the power goes out, all internet goes out. Then the small cellular network becomes so overloaded it’s impossible to use as a hotspot or even for basic calls. This hit three weeks before your arrival: exactly the window when guests are finalizing details and need things buttoned up. I understand how frustrating it is not to have details set in advance. I did step in directly, texted the concierge owner, and she called you that day. Direct communication is something I take seriously, and I was glad to intervene. That context matters, but it isn’t an excuse. Our guests deserve responsive service even when circumstances are hard, and we didn’t meet your expectations at exactly the moment you needed us most. I apologize for that. I’ve asked the owner of the concierge service to add Starlink satellite as backup so this doesn’t happen again. We’re glad the rest of your experience reflected what Villa Moana is meant to be. One note for others in planning mode: spam filters are increasingly aggressive. Emails containing pricing, numbers, or multiple photos often get caught. The same is true for emails presenting options (“choose A or B”), as those trigger filters frequently. I highly recommend adding us to your contacts list, and add VRBO as well, along with any other services emailing you during trip planning. You can remove that elevated status later, but during the planning window it matters. These filters are only getting stricter.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
