Perfect location near beach walkway.Master bathroom needs work--floor by toilet is spongy; clawfoot tub is very slippery; bathroom window needs a blind or curtain; toilet tilts and is too close to the wall...Plenty of parking for 3 or 4 cars.Seems like older mattresses on beds...not very comfortable.

I love a vintage beach cottage. I appreciate antiques and have a genuine nostalgia for the 50s 60s and 70s. However, things definitely need to be updated from time to time. Like; mattresses! Two people in our party LEFT a night early because the mattresses are so bad their backs couldn’t take another night. Additionally, between two kitchens we were still lacking everything we needed, and I’m talking basics like a can opener and silverware for a party of six. The skillets were probably the worst I’ve ever seen, scratched and rusted Teflon is not safe. Many dishes in the cabinets and the silverware were dirty. One of the towels had a very fresh makeup stain on it. The throw blankets give a homie touch, but I wonder how long it’s been since they’ve been laundered. I really feel like a property manager/owner needs to get into this property and take inventory, in the kitchen especially. The extra furniture (the many extra tables oddly placed about) and the excessive decor make spaces feel cluttered and it’s all collecting so much dust and filth. This unit has so much potential, even with a vintage theme, especially so close to the beach. As it stands though, it’s way too much. It felt like we were staying in an elderly’s house who needs help with the upkeep. A note on the outside: No pavers where the outside shower is set up, you’re literally showering in the sand which defeats the purpose for washing off your feet before entering. Lay pavers around to the steps!

Cottage at Folly Beach

This location has a cozy relaxing beach feel. There were a few things that need to be upgraded (deck and shower in front house) but we found the property to have everything we needed.

Great location! Close to the beach and shops

The house has been loved for a long time. It’s rustic, comfortable, clean and has all the amenities. It was great for our set up (multi families) with the two separate house layouts. It could use a little TLC, but we were very comfortable.

beach house

the location is excellent...the house is old old and floors uneven...bathroom door needs a knob...porch furniture not comfortable...BUT you can't beat the location....just would put a good door on bathroom in main house.

Book this house for the location, not the accommodations. The beach is a short walk away, and Center Street is also easily walkable, making the location the property’s biggest asset.Unfortunately, the listing photos no longer reflect the home’s current condition. While I understand this is an older beach cottage, it appears to have significant foundation issues. The floors are noticeably uneven, the windows and doors are severely off-kilter, and the entire house feels so unlevel that we jokingly referred to it as “The Funhouse.”The biggest concern was the main bathroom. The floor around the toilet is soft and cracked, and when you sit down, the toilet noticeably tilts to the left. There is also extensive rust and peeling paint around the bathtub giving the impression that significant maintenance has been deferred. There is excess antique furniture in all the rooms that aren’t always functional making it feel cluttered and less than clean.I read previous reviews mentioning the home needed some TLC, but this was the most disappointing Folly rental I’ve ever stayed in. I am surprised it is still being rented in its current condition.The property manager was very responsive, acknowledged that the listing differs from the home’s current state, and offered a partial refund. The home was clean, and the linens were fresh, so I believe the management company is doing the best they can. I only wish I had seen an honest review like this before booking. Would not stay here again.

Great Location, Quaint to a Fault

Pros: As far as beach access, location, and parking go, this property can’t be beat. It took 30 seconds to get to the beach from the front door. We easily fit 3 cars and could’ve fit 3 more. It’s a little bit of a hike to downtown but we still walked it every day, even with a 3 and a 5 year old. The dual house setup is perfect for two groups to share together.Cons: The house is quaint to a fault. The whole house is uneven…to the point where the interior looks like the inside of a funhouse. Everything is crooked. Upon initial glance, it feels “fun” but after a day or two you realize it’s just old and structurally unsound. Ants also get in EVERYWHERE if you leave any food out. The windows and doors don’t seem to seal entirely either. Overall: Fun time if you don’t plan to spend much/any time indoors. Good news is, Folly is a blast so you don’t “need” a luxurious house to have fun here. 3 stars.

As you noted, this is an older property, and its age contributes to some of its unique characteristics, like the uneven flooring. Guest safety is our priority; we conduct annual safety inspections to ensure structural integrity and have regular pest control treatments. We apologize for the inconvenience of the ants. We loved the location and that there were two separate, private living areas! There is a deck area between the two units that's perfect for gatherings and BBQing. The house is in poor condition and in need of updating and needs more comfortable beds and furnishings. There wasn't a can opener. Not a big deal but bring one just in case. We had a blast but probably would not re-book here unless it's updated.
