Xanadu by Cottonwood Lodging
Surrounded by towering pines behind Solitude Mountain Resort, Xanadu is a spacious five-bedroom luxury mountain retreat designed for families and groups seeking privacy, comfort, and year-round adventure in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
During warmer months, guests can enjoy cooler mountain temperatures, hiking, biking, fishing, wildflowers, alpine lakes, and seasonal resort activities. In winter, the home provides a peaceful base near the skiing and snowboarding at Solitude and Brighton. After a day outdoors, return to the private hot tub, wood-burning fireplace, and wraparound deck.
Important Winter Access Information
This property’s winter location and access requirements may not be suitable for every traveler.
For stays from November 1 through April 15, please review the following before booking:
- Guests must arrive in a vehicle equipped with approved winter tires marked with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol (3PMSF), or carry approved traction devices, as required by applicable canyon traction rules.
- Winter check-in is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Arriving within this window allows our team to guide you to the home and reduces the likelihood of encountering unplowed neighborhood roads during active snowfall.
- Do not use Uber or Lyft to travel to this property. Rideshare vehicles may not meet winter traction requirements and may be unable to reach the home or return for pickup.
Winter Guided Arrival
A Cottonwood Lodging team member will meet you along the main road and guide you to the property for all winter arrivals.
This process helps prevent guests from becoming lost or stuck on neighborhood roads and supports our positive relationship with nearby residents. Please do not attempt to reach the home without assistance, even if you have stayed at the property before.
Please communicate your expected arrival time with Cottonwood Lodging in advance so a team member can meet you between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The Space
Xanadu is a custom-built mountain home designed to give larger groups room to gather while still offering space for privacy and quiet time.
Its spacious common areas are well suited for family vacations, reunions, milestone celebrations, retreats, and trips with friends. The peaceful forest setting makes it easy to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy time together away from the pace of everyday life.
Living and Gathering Areas
The home includes inviting common areas where guests can relax, share meals, play games, or spend evenings together.
The wood-burning fireplace creates a warm focal point during snowy winter nights, while the surrounding windows and forest setting bring the outdoors into the home throughout the year.
Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen provides space to prepare meals for a group, from quick breakfasts before skiing or hiking to relaxed family dinners.
The dining and gathering areas make it easy to celebrate special occasions, reconnect with friends, or enjoy an evening at home after a day in the canyon.
Bedrooms
Xanadu includes five private bedrooms, providing flexible accommodations for families, couples, and groups traveling together.
The home’s multilevel layout allows guests to spread out while remaining connected through the central gathering spaces.
Private Hot Tub
The private hot tub offers a relaxing place to unwind after skiing, hiking, biking, or exploring the canyon.
In winter, enjoy a warm soak surrounded by snow-covered trees. During warmer months, relax beneath the evening sky and enjoy the quiet forest atmosphere.
Please follow all posted operating and safety instructions during use.
Wraparound Deck
The wraparound deck provides space to enjoy morning coffee, fresh mountain air, and the surrounding pines.
During summer and fall, it is an inviting place to relax outdoors and take in the scenery. Winter access, furniture, and deck use may be limited by snow accumulation and weather conditions.
Summer and Fall at Xanadu
Big Cottonwood Canyon offers a refreshing escape from warmer valley temperatures during summer and early fall.
Seasonal activities may include:
- Hiking
- Mountain biking
- Fishing
- Disc golf
- Scenic chairlift rides
- Wildflower viewing
- Alpine-lake exploration
- Outdoor yoga
- Live music
- Seasonal markets and resort events
Activity availability and schedules vary by season, weather, and resort operations.
Solitude and Brighton are both located nearby and may offer summer dining, recreation, events, and scenic access.
Winter at Xanadu
Xanadu offers a private retreat near two of Utah’s best-known mountain resorts.
Solitude Mountain Resort and Brighton Resort are both within a short drive, providing access to skiing, snowboarding, Nordic recreation, and other winter activities. The Eagle Lift at Solitude can be accessed from the road the home is on, however, there is no ski-in access back to the home.
After a day on the mountain, guests can return to the home for a soak in the hot tub, an evening by the fireplace, or a quiet night surrounded by snow-covered forest.
Because the property is located on a mountain neighborhood road, winter guests must be prepared for changing weather, snow accumulation, and intermittent plowing.
A Place to Slow Down
Xanadu’s private road and wooded setting offer the chance to step away from crowded destinations and busy schedules.
Mornings can begin with coffee on the deck, afternoons can be spent exploring trails and lakes, and evenings can end in the hot tub or beside the fireplace.
The home is well suited for guests seeking outdoor adventure, quality time together, or a quiet break in the mountains.
Location
Xanadu is located behind Solitude Mountain Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
The home provides convenient access to both Solitude and Brighton while maintaining a quieter, more secluded setting than lodging in the main resort villages.
Travel times and road conditions may vary based on weather, traffic, construction, and seasonal canyon operations.
