I was a little surprised that the main comment was about laundry. This guest is a nice lady who has stayed with us before and knew that the cottage does not have its own laundry facilities (as mentioned in the listing). For those who need them, there are convenient laundromats less than 3 miles away, which many of our long-term guests have found easy to use. I’m glad she was able to do her laundry at her family’s home nearby, and I truly appreciate her coming back to stay with us.

I’m sorry to hear that this guest’s experience did not meet expectations, as I feel the review does not fully reflect the actual facts and circumstances of the stay. Communication during this reservation was difficult. The guest did not confirm his arrival or let me know when he had arrived, and he never contacted me through Vrbo, email, or phone during his stay regarding any concerns or requests. Had he reached out, I would have been happy to assist and address any issue. The cottage was prepared according to the listing: beds were made, linens and towels were provided (and used during the stay), and the wall-mounted AC unit was available and working properly. No fan was needed or requested by any previous guest in over 10 years of renting the cottage. The shared shed mentioned in the listing is provided for kayak storage, just as the listing explains that bikes and other shared with my other house.The guest referred to a “random neighbor,” who was using a shed, but this person is actually a returning guest staying in my other house. The cottage and main house are separate private accommodations, and in over 10 years of hosting both, we have never had issues between guests because there is normally no interaction between them. This is concerning that the guest approached someone he described as a “random neighbor” to request beach towels, which were not included with the cottage rental. Regarding the mention of a “hostile text” or trespassing, there was a misunderstanding that I clarified through Vrbo. I explained that there was no trespassing issue and simply asked that any future communication go directly through me so I could respond appropriately. I always strive to provide a peaceful and comfortable stay, and I regret that I was not given the opportunity to address any concerns during the visit. Despite this review, I would be happy to welcome this guest again in the future and show him that with clearer communication, by using even the Vrbo platform, to share any questions or concerns during the stay, the experience can be much better.
