Luxurious, rustic, private vacation home with great view.

Voyager Rest is ideally located to enjoy the incredible beauty of wild wonderful West Virginia! It is situated on a private 7+ acre lot, within Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge - within Old Timberline gated resort community. It offers complete privacy, yet is just minutes from countless outdoor pursuits.

The interior of Voyager Rest is exquisitely finished with antiques and collectables from around the globe. It is truly one of a kind. It includes, a large stone wood-burning fireplace, oak beams, antique hardwood and slate flooring, stone showers, and granite counter-tops fitted with hand-made copper sinks. Two kayaks are available to guests; one at each lake (Please see orientation).

Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge was the 500th National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) to be established in the United States. The refuge preserves a moist valley with unique wetlands and uplands at a relatively high elevation in the Allegheny Mountains.

Note guests have access to fishing at (2) lakes within the Old Timberline community <5min from the cabin - no fishing license required within the community.

This place is amazing. The host has truly captured the feel of the Yorkshire Dales in England. The house is filled with notable and interesting antiques and collectibles that add charm and interest everywhere you look. We fully appreciated that the community is gated. There are deer everywhere. And the view from the deck is expansive and beautiful.

This was our fourth or fifth time staying at Jim’s place. We are repeat guests for a reason. As always the house was awesome. We celebrated our anniversary spending time in Thomas and Davis, frequently at the Billy Motel and Purple Fiddle. When we were at home we had a fire going constantly. The ambience is awesome. It snowed A LOT our last night and I thought we’d be in trouble. Jim had a plow truck come out that morning and cleared the driveway for us. As always, thanks Jim!

What a unique house! The location was beautiful. But the best part was all the crazy Knick Knacks. Every nook and cranny had some kind of doll or statue or things I had no idea what it was. So many beautiful things from around the world. Half the fun was trying to find them all. The bathrooms all had full stone showers. Not tile, but stone slabs. This was such a fun house to stay in. I wouldn’t recommend it if you have small children, but it’s a must for adults. The kitchen had top of the line appliances. Beds were comfy.

Our second time staying at this home. Very nice. Love the accessibility to Dolly Sods. Very unique home! The hot tub is an added bonus. Great way to start your day and a great way to relax at night.

Overall impression of Voyager Rest is there's no other place like it! This was our 2nd stay. We originally came with only a few family members a couple yrs ago and knew we wanted to bring the rest of our family for a future visit. We finally made that happen! This unique location is still a family favorite! We've been visiting the area for over 30 yrs. Jim's place is full of so much charm & peace it feels like a home away from home. The few days we were here we adventured to Dolly Sods for a day of hiking, climbing & foraging for blueberries & huckleberries. We enjoyed cooking our meals in the well equipped kitchen but also enjoyed a meal out at the Canaan Valley BBQ (highly recommend). The day we arrived was just after 2 days of camping at Blackwater Falls. We had lots of fun visiting the usual sites: Pendleton Point, Falls, etc. We were sad to see that the Sawmill Restaurant had closed! Though Milo's Cafe was lovely, we do wonder how the local lumberjacks like the avocado toast w/ goat cheese, lol. We did enjoy the day strolling through the galleries of Thomas & Davis before we arrived. The view from the deck as you sip your morning coffee or enjoy dinner with the sunset are breathtaking. The hot tub is a lovely treat. The layout of the whole place is just cozy & enlightening with stories for the senses. We had some great visits to both the nearby lakes. Thanks for allowing us to take in a little piece of your heaven, Mr. Hopkins. We look forward to our next stay!

Lux home base for outdoor fun. We enjoyed our summer stay at this lovely home. It was perfect for adventuring outdoors and then coming back to a relaxing retreat with luxurious amenities, including a state-of-the-art kitchen, hot tub and stone shower. WiFi pretty good for a mountain, but keep in mind if you have work to do remotely, it may not be able to handle intense applications. Owner was very communicative and easily reachable for any issues that arose. Another plus was that our dog was welcome. I think he might have had even more fun than us.

Nice property with beautiful and private surroundings. The eclectic decorations from all over the world make it feel like a museum. Jim was a helpful host and easy to get in contact with. We cooked most meals at the house. The kitchen is well equipped. Beds were comfortable.

Magic of nature

We love this VRBO cabin so much that we’ve stayed multiple times. Its eclectic decor adds to the enjoyment of our stay. It has plenty of space for our family and is located near some of the most beautiful natural sites in the world. Blackwater Falls, Seneca Rocks, etc. The views from the cabin are perfect for watching deer, sunsets, and enjoying nature.

Great location and beautiful unique cabin

This cabin was awesome and filled with unique treasures from the owner's world travels. The view was beautiful, the beds were very comfortable and the hot tub was wonderful. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to make our meals. They even had hummingbird nectar and we filled the feeder and were able to see the hummingbirds a lot during our stay. We went fishing in the nearby Sand Run Lake and caught some bass. This was a great location since it was close to Canaan Valley and Blackwater Falls State Parks.

Pictures don’t do justice!

You have to see it to truly appreciate it! This place will fill you with awe and motivation. The views, both in and out of the cabin, will make your mind wonder on and on. The place has everything you might need and the customer service, both from the owner, and from the staff, will make you feel like you’ve all been long time friends. I cannot recommend this place enough and I can’t wait to be back!

Fun even a second time

This was our second time at this property. This time we took our two boys. They loved it just as much as we did. The location is perfect for hiking during the day. And the house is perfect for enjoying each others' company in the evenings. The host has always been super helpful. My youngest son didnt want to leave and is making plans to return in the future.

Tiny Castle in the Mountains…fit for a king

Despite the chilly weather, we enjoyed our stay tremendously. Or perhaps BECAUSE of the chilly weather? While we did get out to explore (Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley State Parks) during the sunny days, we slept in late each morning and returned in the afternoon to curl up by the fireplace with books and music. We cooked all of our meals in the well-stocked kitchen and dined together “at home.” The beds were very comfortable and made with high quality linens. Showering was even a treat! The collections on display kept us entertained throughout our stay. I’m sure we didn’t take in everything over the three days. At night we relaxed in the hot tub, under the stars. We look forward to visiting again during a different season so we can see more of the local area.
