It seems appropriate that Aaron Copeland included the melody of one of West Virginian’s favorite songs, Simple Gifts, in the score for his beloved composition Appalachian Spring. Named for the story of a spring celebration of 19th century American pioneers, this lovely one-story contemporary home is rich with one of the hardest to find yet simplest of gifts, peace and quiet. Relax and listen to the sounds of nature from the lovely deck or take a hike around the tranquil wooded area. Settle into vacation mode in front of the fireplace with that book or magazine you have been meaning to read for a while now. The night sky will be amazing from the comfort of the outdoor hot tub. There are no interruptions here unless you take a break to observe nature from the ceiling to floor windows. Don’t be surprised if everyone wants to help prepare meals thanks to the comfortable design of the extra excellent kitchen. While visiting Appalachian Spring you can completely unplug or enjoy free WIFI and cable TV. For the young at heart this rental also includes a PS3 game system.

Perfect Spot to Unwind After Skiing

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our second year staying here, and we really enjoyed it again. The wildlife around the house is amazing and such a special bonus to the trip. The hot tub is perfect after a long day on the slopes. A great place to unwind and relax. The house could use a little TLC in spots, but overall it’s a great place to stay for the price, especially considering the location. We can’t wait to stay here again next year .

Absolutely gorgeous views

We greatly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful location with gorgeous views. Rooms were clean and comfy. Only downsides are that some of the rooms were hotter than others, and the garage wasn't cleaned out from the previous guests.

Awesome getaway house

This house was great and everyone was much more than satisfied with our stay here. Everything was as described and many memories that will last a lifetime. Everything was in working condition including hot tub. Must stay if your looking for a trip out into the Canaan Valley!

We enjoyed the house immensely. Spacious, gas logs fire place, hot tub, etc. The neighborhood is fabulous. Great location, good hiking within the gates, helpful staff.

Christmas ski trip

The only improvement I recommend is a working ice maker.

Reviewer Comments: dry year for a spring paddling trip, but we spent 2 80 degree days on the Cheat Narrows, walked and admired the trees at Cathedral State Park, then hiked for 2 days in the Canaan area with snow spitting at times.our second stay in Appalachian Spring, which makes a comfortable,quiet, secluded base for our group of 6. Timberline trails, and easy access to Cabin Mt and refuge an added bonus

Exceptional

The house was lovely.. All on one floor and is idal for me (87) and my husband 8 (91). My husband is in a wheel chair and the hardwood floors made it very easy to get around. Although I didn't do much cooking, the kitchen was well equipped and could have accommodated cooking for a large group. The house was really too big for just the three of us ( husband, our son and myself) The house was comfortable and spacious.and worked well for us.

Appalachian spring

I had to inform the property manager ahead of our visit of issues from previous reviews to see if it was fixed. She informed me she didn’t read reviews and that they are not maintenance logs. She was unaware of the issues and was very rude/ not polite on phone with me. When we arrived the isssues were still not fixed. Fireplace was not working, hot tub does not hold heat and padding is deteriorating, striker plate on front door is missing for door latch. The property manager informed us that the house was fully stocked with dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels…etc. it had one roll of each and 3 dishwasher pods for 8 people staying 5 days. They informed me that they know the fireplace was broke (if an issue is known, I suggest at least an email to future renters so they can adjust accordingly. The house itself was wonderful and spacious, the living area and kitchen, and privacy was perfect for our group. I would recommend a different management co. Poor job stocking and addressing concerns and issues with the house.

Many problems with cabin

I have stayed here before in September with no problems.First the door lock is very difficult, and Maintenance had to get us in. We just kept it unlocked while we were there. Then the fireplace does not work. Maintenance man tried but says it needs igniter replaced. Then water was not on, however the maintenance people fixed that for us. The heating in the cabin is weird. The bedroom in the back with the queen bed, (not master) was so hot, we had to open windows and turn on the fans in January, to be able to sleep in it. The bedroom by the kitchen was too cold. The hot tub was used for 25 minutes and in that time the temperature dropped to 92 degrees. It was so cold we could not use it. It also needed more water.Then on Sunday the snow began thawing. We woke up to water coming in over the kitchen doors. The rug was soaked it was dripping so much. We put cake pans down to catch the water the rest of the weekend. We are not skiers. We just wanted a winter getaway, with a fireplace and hot tub. We were definitely disappointed. I realize winter weather can bring difficulties, but I am very upset that the cabin did not fulfill our expectations. Alice Wise

Four Friends and their Mustangs Getaway!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This property is an absolute gem hidden away at the end of Cottonwood Way. It is absolutely beautiful inside. The kitchen is a dream to work in, the assortment of cooking and baking utensils is vast. There are serving dishes/utensils/pans/baking dishes for just about any food you want to serve. We couldn't use the garage because the drop off from road to garage was a little steep for our Mustangs. The couch is very comfortable as are the beds. There was plenty of TP, dish soap, dishwasher detg, laundry, detg, paper towels and garbage bags for our stay. The closets are filled with extra pillows, towels, and blankets. There is lots of wildlife in the area; we saw deer, turkey, vultures and a raven from the deck. And, we heard several owls after dark. I had trouble getting the front door unlocked. I called the rental company and they gave me tips and offered to send someone out to open it for me; but I got it unlocked. All four of us had a fantastic time and a very relaxing stay at Appalachian Spring, and we are planning on making this a yearly trip to this property!

Everyone had their own bath, which is always a plus. Large comfortable space to hang out. Mattresses do need replaced . Hot tub was not working but a refund was put on the credit card within two days of leaving. We have rented thru Best ofCanaan for 7 years and they are always so pleasant and accommodating.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I have been renting this particular home for 3 years and other homes in the community for more than 30 years during the WV hunting season. Last year this home lost cable for the entire time we were there and we notified the office, but didn't really complain. This year our big Sunday dinner was ruined by having an oven that didn't work - continued to turn on and off and not hold heat. As a result, we through out two pork loins worth $50 and ended up eating at Subway - imagine dealing with 5 angry guys who paid for food and now had to buy a sub at subway. The following day a member of the group had to leave the woods on the first day of hunting season to meet your so called service guy who turned out to be the guy who changed light bulbs and told us what we already knew "the oven was having a problem". As a result again, we could not prepare the intended dinner for that evening we brought with us and had to drive to Davis and purchase charcoal and hamburgers for the dirty grill. By the way, what kind of house commanding this type of rent, does not offer a gas grill. The overall experience with the valley was beautiful as always and the house is really nice, but I'm truly disappointed in the fact that we transport food for the 5 days that we either through away or carried back home. I would hope as a repeat renter, Best of Canaan does the right thing and offers us some type of reimbursement for next year.

Thanksgiving family stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed our stay. And the fireplace and LR/kitchen WERE GREAT! . Things to improve: there was no toilet paper, no paper towels, no dish soap, etc. , should be told to bring if there is none. There were spider nests /cobwebs everywhere, the table and other furniture needs work-and overall needs some general maintenance. Overall we had a fun trip and would stay again but with more supplies.

Quiet and peaceful

Musty smell thru the house. Surface cleaning. Beds very comfortable as was the couch. Full kitchen with plenty of dishes. Had problem with getting heat in large bedroom. Oven kept shutting off while using.

House for Family Fun

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed our vacation in the WV mountians as expected. Appalachian Spring was a great home, plenty of room, excellent kitchen, comfortable beds, and a good size. The art in the home has a story and I appreciated the local purchases. We did catch 4 mice, and we did have to clean up their left behind treasure upon arrival. That is no fault of the house owners I believe housekeeping should have cleaned better, not because of the mice but bc of the condition of the home upon arrival. I let Best Of Canaan know upon leaving, they listened and noted.

Bright, Spacious and well-equipped

We were in a group of three couples and the layout provided plenty of privacy as well as being a great gathering spot. We loved the well-equipped kitchen, thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub. The living room was bright and sunny with a beautiful sectional that enabled us to all sit together comfortably. And a bonus gas fireplace. There were plenty of games, books and puzzles as well as tv and internet. The furniture was very nice, beds were comfortable with plenty of extra blankets and pillows. Would definitely stay here again!
