A houseboat in the old center

Back in the 1600s ! : Your houseboat is moored with its South view on one of the most romantic and peaceful canals, surrounded by a XVIIth century architecture and the Carillon of Zuiderkerk (1614) painted by Claude Monet (1874).

The houseboat is for 2 guests with a king size bed 2m/1m80 with its overhead window for watching stars, surrounded by a paintings gallery and its large Louis XV mirror reflecting the South windows over the canal.

You will appreciate being located in the historical area of Nieuwmarkt, 5 minutes walking distance from Central Station or 40 meters from the metro station 'Nieuwmarkt', close by the tram lines 2, 4, 11, 12, 14 and 24, and the metro line 52 at Rokin station.

The hull (Praam type) and the original structure were built during "La Belle Epoque" in 1898, making it one of the oldest boats in Amsterdam. The last renovation took place in 2010 for the hull doubling and 2019 for the house but respecting its historical charm.

Two times, the City Hall of Amsterdam gave to the boat the price of the most beautiful garden of the center.

It was a great stay, although the facilities could use some updates for convenience. The location was absolutely incredible, and the decor was full of character.

The boat is excellently located, close to all the surrounding neighborhoods and walking distance for everything we wanted to do. Check in and out was simple. Owner was extremely responsive whenever I reached out. The boat furnishings are very eclectic with limited seating. Many of the chairs are close to falling apart. There is also poor lighting (very dim) except for the bathroom (very well lit). Despite these things we made the most of it and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

What a pleasure to stay in a charming house boat on one of the quieter central canals. Eclectically furnished and comfortable it was a tranquil space to relax and watch the tour boats go by. Plenty of nice eateries and grocery stores within walking distance and easy to get to the galleries/museums on foot or by a short tram ride. The bathroom was a good size with a decent shower, the small kitchen had all of the necessary equipment to prepare food ā€˜at homeā€™ although we didnā€™t cook. The bedroom was a good size with most of it being taken up by a large bed which was comfortable.

This was a really fun and funky place to stay if you like different, instead of a hotel room, where you have your own kitchen and are centrally located to most things you want to do as a tourist, including the Rembrandt House museum, 2 blocks away! āœ… Versus a hotel room you will not remember, staying on this houseboat, where just finding the light switches to all the unique lamps, sconses and accent lights are an adventure that you will never forget, this is the place! šŸ‘ While it is on a quiet block with no retail and only one small Thai restaurant anywhere close, it is not that quiet, with melodic church bells nearby and the occasional squaking coot, as well as the occasional loud reveler in the evenings, but my earplugs did the trick and the bed was comfortable and warm. The bathroom is also a trip, as is one nice large space with a low ceiling that is the toilet area, shower and sink all-in-one, but as long as only one at a time in there and you use the provided squeegee after a shower, you get used to to floor all slanting to the drain in the middle. ā˜ŗļø Lots of hot water, great water pressure and complete kitchen, utensils... What is not to like?
A coot that are frequent passerbys while eating!

Nice little Houseboat

The houseboat was right in the middle of central so you could basically walk to every spot. Itā€™s also in a nice quiet area. Sometimes tour boats go by the window which was a bit odd but other than that amazing place.

Great Location

Great location and we really enjoyed our stay. Quiet neighborhood but close to many bars and restaurants. We hit a local grocery close by as well. Sadly Rembrandt House was closed, because itā€™s very nearby.

Cozy, Comfortable, Convenient place

This houseboat is the ideal place to stay in Amsterdam. Itā€™s fun, funky, and very comfortable. Centrally located, itā€™s easy to walk to all the sites and museums we wanted to see. Itā€™s also right by a subway stop for going further. At night, open the widows and let the breezes and soft sounds of the canal waft over you

The houseboat is in a lovely quiet location, but still in the centre of Amsterdam. Lionel has done a great job of making it feel quirkily sumptuous in a boho style. Loved our time here.

To live in a houseboat in the 'Old Center' of Amsterdam but in the residential part : 'East side'.

Why Live In A houseboat ? : I understood that a flat is too noisy, as the walls are too thin with buildings on pilotis in Amsterdam. A barge is too steep-sided.

Houseboat is an unique experience and one of Amsterdam symbols, with its 2500 units spread over 165 canals, being the subject of an UNESCO World Heritage nomination.

Living on a boat has a price, that of permanent maintenance, including painting, wood treatment and corrosion, punctuated by regular visits and docking the boat at the shipyard without forgetting the specific taxes.
