Summary:
Perched above the iconic Knipp-Stengel Barn with sweeping ocean and forest views, this timber-framed Sea Ranch retreat blends bold architecture with coastal calm. Soak in the private hot tub under the stars, hike blufftop trails from your doorstep, or settle into the sun-drenched window seats and watch the world slow down.
Two bedrooms, two baths, and an open great room with soaring timber beams -- designed for couples or small groups chasing quiet, beauty, and adventure on the Sonoma Coast.
The Space:
Step inside and the first thing you'll notice is the timber -- soaring heavy beams that frame the entire great room, giving the space a warmth and presence that photos can only hint at. The open-plan living, kitchen, and dining areas flow together beneath those beams, with a wall of window seats that pull in natural light and ocean views from every angle. It's the kind of room where mornings start slowly with coffee and evenings end around the wood-burning stove.
The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook at your own pace -- dishwasher, full-size oven, stove, microwave, blender, coffee maker, and a well-stocked set of wine glasses for Sonoma Coast tastings brought home. A dining table seats your group comfortably for meals together.
Upstairs, an open mezzanine library and workspace overlooks the great room below -- a quiet perch for reading, remote work, or just taking in the architecture from a different angle. Wi-Fi and a dedicated desk make it easy to stay connected if you need to.

The Neighborhood:
The Sea Ranch is one of California's most iconic coastal communities -- 3,500 acres where architecture, forest, and ocean meet along ten miles of rugged Sonoma coastline. More than half the land is preserved as open space, with over 50 miles of maintained trails winding through blufftop meadows, towering redwood groves, and wildflower-filled clearings.
This home sits above the historic Knipp-Stengel Barn, with Stengel Beach and its tidepools a short walk away. Shell Beach and Pebble Beach -- two of the most photographed coves on the North Coast -- are an easy drive or a scenic trail walk.
The Ohlson Recreation Center is nearby, offering a heated pool, tennis courts, and basketball courts for Sea Ranch guests. Del Mar and Moonraker recreation centers provide additional pools and saunas throughout the community.
The Sea Ranch Lodge offers dining with ocean views, and the town of Gualala (about 10 minutes south) has grocery stores, restaurants, and a lively local arts scene. Highway 1 winds through some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the state.
Getting Around:
Sea Ranch is a car-based destination along Highway 1 on the Sonoma Coast. The nearest grocery stores and restaurants are in Gualala, about 10 minutes south.
From the home, Stengel Beach and the blufftop trail system are accessible on foot. The Ohlson Recreation Center is a short drive within the community.
Cell service can be limited in parts of Sea Ranch -- Wi-Fi is provided in the home.
Other Things to Note:
A few things to help you get the most out of your stay:
Sea Ranch community amenities -- including pools, saunas, and tennis courts -- are managed by The Sea Ranch Association (TSRA). Access info and facility reservations are available at tsra.org. Availability varies by season, so we recommend booking early during the summer months.
This home is nestled in a beautiful meadow setting, which means you may share the surroundings with local wildlife -- deer are frequent visitors, and you'll likely spot hawks, quail, and rabbits from the deck.
The dark skies here are extraordinary. Bring a flashlight for evening walks and look up -- on clear nights, the stargazing is some of the best in Northern California.
Whale watching season runs roughly from December through April. Gray whales migrate along this stretch of coast, and the blufftop trails offer some of the best viewing spots anywhere.
The home has stairs between the main level and the upper level bedroom and the mezzanine.
Interaction with Guests:
This home is professionally managed by Casago Sonoma Coast. We're available by phone and message before, during, and after your stay. You'll receive detailed check-in instructions, Wi-Fi information, and local recommendations ahead of your arrival.
