Beaver Island - Cable Bay Cottage

If you're looking to get away from it all, this is the place for you! Offering a private, sandy beach on one of the island's most beautiful bays, this is the perfect spot to unwind and relax with family and friends. Enjoy scenic lakefront views from the dining room, living room, deck or by taking a stroll down the beautiful shoreline.

Sleeps 6 featuring:
• 2 bedrooms (queen-size bed in each)
• 2 sleeper-sofas

Also includes:
• Fully-stocked kitchen
• Dining and living rooms
• 1 ½ bathrooms
• Enclosed porch and outdoor deck

The cottage is located about 12 miles from boat dock and airport, so you will need to bring a vehicle* across on the ferry or rent one in town.

*NOTE: Reservations for automobile transport on the ferry should be made a couple months in advance, if possible. Please go to the boat company website for rates and schedules by searching under Beaver Island Boat Company.

There are several restaurants, shops, a library, toy store/museum, community center, deli and fully-stocked grocery store in town.

The island has several hiking trails and inland lakes including Lake Geneserath, which is just across the road from the cottage. There are two lighthouses on the island and several opportunities for exploring. There is also a golf course just outside of town.

There are many websites with additional information about the island that you may find useful. Just search for Beaver Island!

Please note: there is no Wi-Fi or internet at the cottage, and usually no cell phone service. These are available in town but not at the cottage. See more information on this in the "Amenities" section.

Please also note: linens are not provided. Specifically.... sheets, pillow cases, towels and wash clothes are not provided. Pillows and comforters are provided; just not pillow cases and bed sheets. Some dish towels may be provided, but hand towels and bath towels are not. This is due to the fact that there is not ample time in between rentals for laundry.

Great spot

Great lake house in a stellar location. House isn't fancy, but has everything you need. Very comfortable. One of the best beaches on the island. Owners are always responsive. This was our third time renting, and we'll be back for sure.

Everything was just right, including a nighttime thunderstorm, watching the Chicago Mackinac race go by, eagles, loons and mergansers fishing in the bay, exploring the southern part of the island by bike We also enjoyed deciphering animal tracks in the sand each morning.

Treasured time together

This is the 2nd year our family has rented this perfectly lovely cottage on Beaver Island. The property is so beautiful on Lake Michigan! We love the nature, the scenery, the peace and quiet. Craig answered my emails right away and we just can’t wait to come again! Truly a treasured place!

Cable Bay cottage

I was very happy with the property. Having kayaks available - we used them everyday. We had bonfires every night and we were very happy with the space and the island in general.

What a hidden gem!

Fantastic cabin with a spectacular private beach. We love the island and look forward to our next visit. Craig was an outstanding host and left no questions or doubts as renters. Will absolutely recommend.

Truly a Magical place

Our family had an amazing time at this cottage on beautiful beaver island. If being in a quiet up north cottage is your thing, look no further. Beautiful beach, both night and day! Definitely hope to come again next year! Thanks for the memories !!!

Perfect beach rental

This was a great stay for our family. The house is cottage style, not super modern but has everything we needed. Also nice to have access to some beach toys for the kids! The beach was excellent and the stars at night were spectacular. Bringing linens is a bit of a hassle, but easy enough if you're bringing a car over. We're hoping to rent this cottage out again next year!

Great place to stay

We had an excellent, beautiful first day but then the rain and cold came in that evening and stayed the rest of our vacation. So the cottage became more of a Basecamp. We went out to visit with friends and made new friends, visited the museums, and just had fun getting the Jeep dirty.

Best Vacation

The home was clean, well stocked, and just as listed. This rental has a gorgeous beach. The water is crystal clear. We spent most of our time in the water or on a kayak. Craig was extremely prompt and kind. We can't wait to return next year!

Amazing Location!

My husband and I were gifted a week at Cable Cottage. This was our second time to Beaver Island and we absolutely love it here. We especially love the South end. The location of Cable Cottage was magical. We mostly had the beach to ourselves. The sandy beach was perfect! If you love quiet, private beach access with perfect star gazing, this is your place. We were looking for a quiet get away where we had little connectivity and could enjoy the sounds of nature. There are also great hiking and biking trails nearby.

an island escape

We enjoyed your home very much. Everything was first class. Although we didnt need it, we found the garage key. The book said it would be next to refrigerator, we found it as the second key on the counter. I walked the entire beach cove and it was beautiful. On Tuesday, we had gale force winds causing 6-8' swells on lake michigan making if feel like an ocean surf. Stars at night we awesome. Thanks

Magical Stay

The Cable Bay Cottage exceeded our expectations for location, amenities on site, and comfort! As guests on vacation, we felt privileged that the owners shared their wonderful home with us, and we hope they continue to do so! Every day we enjoyed kayaking, swimming, beach walks and reading, and in the evenings we swam some more and made beach fires and watched the moon rise over the lake. Time slowed down, and our vacation will be memorable for all the right reasons thanks to Cable Bay Cottage!

Relaxing..Away from it all!

The cottage was just perfect! It had everything we could need. Kitchen was well stocked! My family truly enjoyed the beach and how secluded it was. We spent time walking on the beach, swimming, kayaking and making smores on the beach fire pit at night. Indoors there were plenty of movies, games and puzzles for our family. The owner was quick to respond and answered all my questions! Can't wait to return to this gem!

Wonderful stay

This is the first time we have ever used VRBO. We were so amazed and just loved this cottage so much. The views are absolutely beautiful and I wish I could share the video sound I took one morning while enjoying my coffee and reading the Beaver Island Journals. The loons and birds were so peaceful. The cabin is super well stocked with everything ...even birthday cake candles! We saw Eagles and osprey, and turkey in the back yard. We found the most amazing stones and beach glass steps away from the cabin. Thank you for sharing your home. It was perfect in every way. We can not wait to visit again.

Perfect Beach. Well maintained cottage.

Great sandy beach. Cottage is flawless in every way. Everything worked in the cottage as one would expect with no issues. The box fans we found in the closet were a bonus as we forgot ours. Helped move some air around the bedrooms when there was no breeze. Our kids (12, 10, 5) all loved it. We were at the beach every sunny day wasting time away, and every cloudy day did something inland. The movies were a bonus for night time cool down before the kids went to bed. Lots of windows and THEY ALL open easily. They are big too. The garage was huge and had a ton of space to store or secure anything we brought with us like our bikes. Kayaks were in use just about everyday. Nice selection of sand toys that we also made use of. Never turned on the TV to watch TV (why would you?) so can't speak to that. The lack of cell and internet service is a blessing that is hard to find nowadays. Amazing what fun the family can come up with then they aren't constantly checking to see their friends face book updates or text messages.

Private and beautiful!

This was the first VRBO we've stayed at and I was absolutely impressed! It was about a 20 minute drive from the fairy to a remote area of the island. The cabin appears to be in the woods but it is just a minute walk to the water. Huge surprise! We didn't see a single mosquito the week we were there in August and it was warm and beautiful. The owner was super easy to communicate with and thought of everything; activities for the kids, movies, games, swim toys, firewood, etc. The house was cozy yet open. We had plenty of room to spread out but always seemed to enjoy the dining room table best because of the view and breeze through the large windows. The kitchen was well equipped with toasters, crock pot, pans and dishes among many other things. Next time I won't pack nearly as mich as I did. My boys enjoyed the beach the best because it was clear and shallow. Their favorite freedom was kayaking every day. I liked the option to sit in the shade near the beach by the fire pit and hear them laugh. We made fires every night and it was the perfect family bonding time. One of my sons said, "We've made so many good memories and we still have 4 days to go!" As a Mom, I couldn't get enough. For those bringing children, I highly recommend this spot because you can keep a good eye on them. The beach is quite close and there are not stairs to have to deal with. We drove to town to visit the museums, gift shops, and markets. We ate at a couple local restaurants and the food and people were amazing. My husband left his sunglasses at one of them, went back a couple days later and they were holding them! Who does that anymore? We are so grateful for finding this place and definitely intend to go back. Wonderful cabin, wonderful time!

GREAT PLACE WITH FABULOUS BEACH, VIEW. WELL MAINTAINED AND JUST PEACEFUL AND TRANQUIL!

MY FAMILY FULLY ENJOYED THIS LOVELY PLACE! THE BEACH AREA WAS INCREDIBLE AND THE VIEW FROM THE BACK OF THE CABIN WAS JUST THE SAME.. IN THE EVENING THERE WAS JUST A AIR OF PEACE AND QUIET HANGING OVER THE AREA, COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER PLACE TO STAY!

This property was purchased by my grandparents in 1969. The photo shows my grandma and me near the beach in front of the cottage. My family came to the island every summer when I was growing up. It was the week we most looked forward to each year! I would love to see others share in experience this with family and friends!
