MOUNTAIN MOONSHINE RETREAT

Although privately situated, the cabin is only a short drive from local attractions, dining & outdoor activities whenever you’re ready to explore.

Soak in the hot tub while overlooking the mountains, river & valley below. Fire up the barbecue grill & enjoy relaxed outdoor dining on the open deck as fresh mountain air surrounds you. Watch the sunset paint the sky while you share a meal with unforgettable views.

COZY COMFORT INDOORS
Step inside to a warm, soothing space designed for rest & relaxation. Comfortable furnishings, modern appliances & thoughtful touches create a true home-away-from-home experience.
Enjoy quiet evenings with board games, books, or jigsaw puzzles — perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking to unplug & unwind.

LINENS & TOWELS
Guests are asked to bring their own sheets & towels, which most guests are happy to do. However, if you prefer to travel lighter, we’re happy to provide fresh linens & towels for a small additional fee.
Just let us know in advance & we’ll gladly have everything prepared for your arrival.

ACCESS
Mountain Moonshine is located on a mountain & accessed by a gravel road. While the road is well-traveled & maintained, it is steeper & different from typical flat, urban roads.
AWD or 4WD is strongly recommended, especially during periods of heavy rain, snow, or ice. Vehicles with higher clearance perform best. That said, many guests have successfully reached the cabin in standard sedans by maintaining steady speed - turning off traction control can help in some vehicles as well.
If you're not familiar with mountain roads, there is no need for concern — just take your time & drive carefully. The journey up is part of the experience & the panoramic mountain views from the cabin make it truly worthwhile!

• A 3-night minimum stay is required during holidays & peak dates. There is a 2-night minimum for all other dates.

Everything went great. The cabin was just like the pictures, and the kitchen was particularly well-stocked, including dish soap, trash bags, and plenty of cooking items like oil, seasonings, and dishes. We used the grill and it was very straight forward. The drive up is quite steep but we accomplished it with our 2005 Toyota Sienna AWD. Tires had a difficult time, but you definitely don't need a jeep or pick-up truck to make it up the mountain. Wifi could be a bit spotty but there was plenty of activities to enjoy that don't require wifi. Check in and check out was very easy.

LOVE this cabin. The trek up the mountain in the rain was WELL WORTH IT! The view was spectacular, and so was the cabin. The location was ideal. It was 10minute drive to Luray, and 20 minute drive to Front Royal, and very close to Shenandoah National Park. Ample room for us 2 couples. I loved the elevated seating on the back porch. Made my AM coffee view amazing. This is a very well kept property and very clean, Because it was a cool rainy weekend, we took advantage of the fire place making it a cozy weekend. I had dreams of getting snow bound up there. The wifi was a bit spotty, but better than most other places we’ve rented in the area. But we were rarely on it. All in all, will be putting this place at the top of our list the next time we visit the area.

My wife and I and our black lab have a great stay at the Mountain Moonshine cabin. The weather was perfect and the ride to and from the cabin was even better. A very clean house inside and relaxing hot tub outside was the perfect place to return to after visiting the National Park

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin! The views are absolutely beautiful and made for such a relaxing getaway. The house itself was very well equipped with everything we needed, which made our stay comfortable and easy.The only downside—aside from having to leave—was the presence of wood bees. They could be a bit annoying at times and occasionally seemed aggressive, but that’s part of being surrounded by nature.The road leading to the cabin is mostly well maintained, though there are a few rough spots with potholes, especially toward the end where it’s only partially paved. Taking it slow and careful makes it manageable, but I would definitely recommend arriving in an SUV rather than a standard car.One pleasant surprise was that DoorDash actually delivered to the cabin, which was a nice convenience!Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely come back again in the future.

We do have the cabin routinely treated, but as you mentioned, being nestled in nature means that wildlife and insects will occasionally make an appearance. It’s all part of the mountain experience—along with the fresh air, peaceful surroundings, and beautiful scenery. Thank you as well for your comments about the road. We’re glad you found it manageable. As noted in the listing, 4WD is recommended, but many guests do make the drive comfortably in sedans with decent ground clearance by taking it slow. We stayed at this beautiful mountain cabin to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, and it was a perfect family getaway. The views overlooking the Shenandoah were absolutely stunning, especially in the mornings and evenings, and made the trip feel truly special.The cabin itself was clean, comfortable, and well set up for a relaxing stay. The hot tub was a huge highlight and the perfect way to unwind while taking in the scenery. The atmosphere felt peaceful, private, and very family-friendly.Everything about this stay made it easy to relax and enjoy time together. We’d happily recommend this cabin and would love to return in the future!

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful cabin in Rileyville! The location was absolutely perfect—quiet, peaceful, and close to everything we wanted to do. The cabin itself was spotless, cozy, and well stocked with everything we needed. The hot tub was the highlight—perfect after a day of exploring, and it made our evenings so relaxing. We had a great stay, this is a lovely cabin with beautiful views. The listing says all wheel drive recommended, and it means it. We did fine in our small SUV, but if your car has lower ground clearance you might be in for a struggle. The cabin and amenities were as described, with the 3rd bed being in the common area.

The house was a perfect setup for our group & we had a great weekend. The only issues are that we did not anticipate needing to bring our own can opener or spatula - those items seem like they should be provided. Also, consider providing linens. Our friends did not have king sheets, so we had to provide for all. I imagine there are plenty who do not have king beds at home.

Magnificent View

We had a very nice stay. Magnificent view from deck, sunrise and sunset. Pool was great for the 100 degree days we had, very refreshing. To hot for the hot tub this time. Definitely need 4wd/awd vehicle. Had a good time Thanks

Inside the cabin was immaculately clean and well stocked and had everything we needed. View was spectacular but was obstructed from hot tub and pool because of some overgrown trees. Host was responsive and friendly . The outdoor area could use a little maintenance. Overall definitely worth it

Loved the house and property. Wished there was better communication about need for 4 wheel drive vehicle but property manger answered promptly and was very helpful. Also wish there was better description of where hiking trail was. Not sure if it was me but unable to start grill. But with knowing everything, I would still come back. Loved the covered deck, perfect place to relax and read and kids loved the pool.

Gorgeous retreat

Enjoyed all the wildlife and the gorgeous weather! There will always be bugs everywhere and the showers have seen better days but we loved watching the birds and bees. There’s a sweet little bird that nested by the door. The kitchen is lovely and fully functional, the space is clean, the beds are comfortable, and the view was incredible. No internet access.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the wildlife, the peaceful setting, and the views. It’s wonderful to hear that you found the kitchen well-equipped, the space clean, and the beds comfortable. I’m sorry to hear the showers weren’t quite to your taste. Preferences like that can be very personal. Some guests have actually complimented them but we appreciate your honest feedback. Regarding your note about bugs: the cabin is surrounded by dense forest and borders Shenandoah National Park, so there’s certainly an abundance of natural wildlife and insects in the area. That said, we always ensure the cabin is clean and pest-free before each guest’s arrival. Occasionally, bugs can find their way in especially if you had doors or windows open during your stay but we do our best to maintain a comfortable indoor environment. Also, I’m sorry you experienced issues with the internet. I wasn’t aware of any problems during your stay. Had you texted or called our property manager, he could’ve stopped by to help. It’s often just a matter of resetting the router if it’s been bumped. Thank you again for staying with us—we truly appreciate it and hope to welcome you back in the future!

Blue Ridge Beauty

Myself and a few friends stayed here in late April. The views from the cabin are as good or better than many on the Appalachian Trail or other nearby trails and parks, and the cabin itself was well appointed. The hosts were great and very prompt with communication. The road and driveway to access the property are gravel and somewhat steep, but I didn't feel like we needed high clearance or 4 wheel drive at any point (in good weather). I would definitely stay here again.

Luray is home to the spectacular Luray Caverns, while Front Royal features Skyline Caverns & both towns provide easy access to the national park. Whether we visit with adventurous friends, bring family members who simply want to relax, or steal away for a peaceful couples’ getaway, the Valley somehow fits every mood perfectly. It’s a place where you can fill your days with adventure or do absolutely nothing at all — either way, it feels like time well spent. We truly hope you’ll experience the same sense of peace, beauty & lasting memories that keep drawing us back again and again.

Perched at approximately 2,000 feet above sea level, the cabin offers extraordinary, unobstructed views across the Shenandoah Valley. From this elevated vantage point, you can watch the sun set behind layered mountain ridges — a daily spectacle that never gets old. The curve of the Shenandoah River becomes is clearly visible & on especially clear nights, distant town lights nearly 40 miles away shimmer on the horizon beneath a sky full of stars.

Wildlife frequently passes through the property, with deer, rabbits, wild turkey, hawks & countless birds commonly seen, along with the occasional glimpse of a black bear or bobcat in the distance. Despite being surrounded by nature, the cabin provides modern comfort & a warm, inviting atmosphere — the perfect place to relax, reconnect & experience the mountains at their most beautiful.
