On The Sand In Capistrano Bay STR14-0105 & STR14-0133

Ocean front. No Sunday checkouts and no pets. The house is built on the beach, and has 8 bedrooms and 5 baths in a duplex style three story house. Licensed for twenty guests and seven cars. Sleeping for sixteen with a max of four additional guests. No parties with more than 20 people. The House can be split into the sand level rental (3 bdrs, 2ba) and the Upper Two Floors rental (5bdr, 3 ba). Wake up to the water. The sound of the waves at night, and the views are unforgettable. The house is well appointed, but it’s a beach house and it’s not super luxurious.

Weekly only Saturday to Saturday in the summer.

The house is located in a gate-guarded community on Capistrano Bay, one mile south of Dana Point Harbor. The harbor is an easy walk/bike ride away, and is terrific for restaurants, jet ski rental, fishing trips, whale watching and the catalina express. Dolphin pods frequent the bay in front of the house, and you may be lucky enough to be a part of their day! We are 35 miles south of Disneyland, and 55 miles north of San Diego.

Beach Level Rental:

This rental is on the first floor with three bedrooms, and sleeps 6. Two kings and a full. It has a full Kitchen and Dining Table for six. A fireplace is in the living room, and a there is a deck on the sand with a BBQ. A Washer dryer in the garage and linens provided. City of DP Permit: STR14-0133

Upper Two floors Rental:

This rental is on the second and third floors with a spectacular master suite on the third floor. Open your eyes to breaking waves and endless views. Relax, read, exercise, enjoy. Four bedrooms on the second floor are perfect for two families. Each two bedroom set can be closed off and is ideal for adults with children. City of DP Permit: STR14-0105

The host was exceptionally accommodating and accessible when needed. Wonderful family (17 people) vacation filled with fun days and memories that will last a lifetime!The house was clean and well stalked with plenty of towels (bath and beach), the kitchens had everything we needed. There was plenty of space to relax in the house or on the beach. Having the beach right out the door, made for an amazing stay. A destination definitely worth visiting again!

What a fantastic stay! The location was ideal for my brother’s wedding weekend. There was plenty of room for all of us to hang out, get ready, and have fun. Lee, our host, could not have been more accommodating. He truly blessed us by allowing us to stay!

This house was great and the location was phenomenal. We rented both the upper and lower units so we had tons of space and everyone had enough privacy. Having the ocean right off the deck was what sold us on this listing and it did not disappoint. It was very cool to wake up with the sounds of the waves each morning. The owner was very helpful and accommodating and was very good about communicating. The only slight issue we ran into was with the security guards at the gate at first. The owner reacted right away and was able to resolve the issue and then everything was good after that.

My family and I enjoyed this property so much! My kids and grandkids used the upstairs units. Me, and my husband as well as my mom used the main floor. It was perfect! The house was clean and ready to go! The Host, Lee was awesome, started getting some info a couple weeks out so there was never any confusion. Plenty of parking, it’s a gated community so no traffic to contend with. My only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer!

we've stayed at many of the rentals along beach road over the last 5 decades. this listing is comfortable and spacious. there is some older carpet on the second level, but most surfaces have been updated. it is what we expect these beach rentals to be, not perfect but perfectly acceptable. we love this community, being right on the water. it's like no other. lee was easy to work with and very accommodating.

Location was great and owner was very responsive!Some general feedback provided to the owner:1. The fans - some worked and some did not and all were/are very dirty - need more fans overall on second and third floors2. Not all windows have screens which is bad for wanting to get air flow without bugs in the house3. Blinds on windows are filthy and most do not work - will not open and close and won’t go up and down4. No window coverings on 3rd floor toilet or shower areas - made guests feel uncomfortable 5. Loose tiles and rotted wood near shower in main level bathroom attached to bedroom 6. Table finish on main level dining table is terrible - everything sticks to it like napkins, paper etc7. Refrigerator handle on main level is held on by electrical tape - should be fixed or replaced 8. Toilet in Jack and Jill bathroom on 2nd level runs continuously9. Check in time was supposed to be 4pm and cleaning people were in the home until well after 5pm10. We were surprised that the true bed count was 16 not 20 - my experience with many stays in VRBO properties do not include blow up mattresses in bed count. Teenagers do not want to share blow up mattresses with each other. Perhaps a few sets of bunk beds would be better11. Kitchen handles/knobs and cabinet fronts were dirty so we wiped everything down with Lysol wipes12. The spare sheets and blankets were dusty because all the closets are dustyThe owner responded in part that 1st fl renovation is coming in winter 2025.

Family Reunion Week at the Beach

Nothing warms my heart more than getting my whole family together. This property was perfect for us (5 total families). Everything was as expected and Lee was amazing to work with if we had any questions. There were no concerns so we didn’t have to deal with anything like that. The house is split up into two units and we used both because we had our whole family and we needed every bit of the space. It worked out perfectly to gather altogether or in smaller groups because of the different spaces that were available. We did a lot of cooking and everything that we needed was provided. Other reviews mentioned the beach access was 2 lots over, but super easy to get to and convenient. I would definitely recommend this property and hopefully we’ll be able to use it again. Thanks Lee.

Fantastic week

We really enjoyed our stay. The home was fun! We loved sitting out on the deck and listening to the waves roll in. There was easy ocean access for my kids to body surf or jump waves. The kitchens were well stocked and the house was clean. Lee was great at communicating when it was needed. Thanks for the awesome, relaxing week!!!

Disappointing and Stressful Stay

I stayed here with my wedding party during my wedding weekend. When we arrived, we followed the instructions to check in with the security gate, and my friends were not let in. We had to spend a lot of time communicating with the host to figure out how to get people past the gate since the security was not operating the way we expected. Eventually, we got to a point where there were no more issues entering, but then realized the property has not been cleaned at all, seemingly because the maid service has the wrong date. They came last minute and cleaned the house well enough and the owner felt pretty bad about it and refunded half the nights due to the mistake. But in the end there was just a lot of unnecessary stress and worry throughout the beginning of the day that put a damper on the weekend. Great location on the water, though kind of an old property that could use some TLC.

The location is perfect. However, the house needs a deep clean. There seemed to be some communication problems with the host and the gate that made our check-in process a little difficult but it was figured out.

Family Time

We had a great time! Grandchildren loved the beach! It was great to literally walk out onto the deck and have it right there in front of us. Loved the sound of the waves at night. Saw a sea lion and dolphins. Great place for our large family.

We enjoyed the beach house very much. It was so cool to have a place that could accommodate our whole family. The host was responsive to our wants and quickly returned all my questions in a timely manner. The house was lovely. We did have a few issues which can be expected. But all were taken care of. House is Outstanding!

The house was absolutely beautiful—pictures didn’t do it justice! I appreciated the little touches like dish soap, trash bags, and dishwasher soap being provided. Just a heads-up to bring your own shampoo, soap, toilet paper (only what’s on the roll is provided), and beach towels. Overall, I highly recommend this place! Also, if you have guests, be sure to inform the host, as every car and driver needs to be registered at the guard shack.

Beautiful view, dirty house

View of the ocean is absolutely stunning. Unfortuntaely the house was not clean when we arrived. Huge pile of dirty laundry on the doorstep and lots of dirt / sand inside. Sheets were stained, found some leftover trash on the floor, grill was so filthy it couldn't be used. Rent a car if you are going to stay here, there is nothing within walking distance.

Our new December destination

We had our adult kids and their families and had a great time, we cooked all our meals together, the kitchens were well stocked. The dish washer had not been run and was ripe but quickly remedied by adding soap and hitting the wash cycle. Probably time for new BBQ's. Make sure you contact the owner before trying to get in the gate, they need the names of all the drivers before you get there and the owner has to provide it.
