The place is great! Our hosts were appropriately communicative about arrival and departure and helped us with transportation from the airport. The housekeeper is also very helpful and was willing to arrange both housekeeping and meals while we were there. The property itself was a great place to stay for the 7 of us and has all the amenities we could have asked for.

The most charming authentic traditional home with the most incredible cook Effie if you have her make you meals. All of her food is from scratch and she puts so much love into her cooking. She can also pick up the groceries you need. My daughters loved all the photo opportunities all over the house with plants and views. The pool was wonderful to come home to and we spent a lot of time poolside. It was clean and refreshing. Some of the furniture is not as comfy but it’s authentic and has so much character it was enjoyable. We spent a lot of time as a family in the master upstairs in that seating area that gets great views and the breeze. We liked having the house open during the day and enjoyed the AC at night. The towels were fluffy and high quality and smelled nice which can be a rarity in humid climates. It doesn’t take long to get to the beach and be prepared for a lot of steps unless you want to grab a taxi or uber (which is also easy). We liked walking to burn off all the food we were eating. Highly recommend the experience of staying here. We loved it.

We spent Thanksgiving at this hacienda and had a really wonderful time. The property is beautiful, and very comfortable. The rooms were spacious, the outdoor areas and the private pool were beautiful. Everything was well taken care of.The staff was friendly and helpful, and our housekeeper did an excellent job throughout our stay. The owners were extremely responsible, and very easy to deal with. The location was convenient but still felt private, which we really appreciated.Overall, it was a great place to unwind and enjoy the holiday. We’d definitely stay here again.

Beautiful hacienda, with several excellent restaurants within walking distance.

We throughly enjoyed our stay. The heated pool on the garden like patio was a real treat.Effie, the house keeper was extremely nice and welcoming and a excellent cook who prepared several breakfast and a dinner for our group.

Peurto Vallarta getaway

Lovely hacienda with a great view of the old town. All the amenities including a nice pool. We got our exercise going up and down the stairs to eat and explore in the local neighbourhood and beyond. Lots to do there. It was a very nice vacation!

Beautiful, Fantastic Views!!

Great location and beautiful property! We loved our stay and there was plenty of room for 6 of us, and could have accommodated 8 easily. Effie was a great addition and her Guacamole was a welcome treat when we arrived!! Our group will absolutely be booking your house again and hope to make this an annual getaway! Thank you and we can't say enough good things about this property!

Nice view, spacious

Lots of stairs, not great for anyone with mobility issues. Location was also very steep and hard to walk around, Uber was our friend!!

Casa is amazing!

Wonderful stay! The place is truly amazing, felt a little like going back into history and being in old school Mexico. Wonderful art, landscaping, and true outdoor living. Effie was the BEST!! We added breakfast each morning of our 6 night stay and it was the best experience. Her food, the hospitality - it was a great highlight of our trip. She made us a flan that was TO DIE FOR! It is an older casa and that comes with challenges. We all felt safe, it felt easy to be there, everything within walking distance or an easy uber ride. The stroll up to Serrano's Grill AltaVista - it was fantastic food and a stunning view.

Beautiful stay in a great location

We had a great time staying here. The property looked even better in person. Lots of space to lounge and the pool was a huge plus. There are a set of stairs (a lot of them) just outside the entrance that leads you right into town. We were a little worried about proximity to restaurants, beach, etc before arriving, but found everything to be a quick walk. You will get a workout with the stairs, but calling an Uber for further locations was really simple. Would definitely stay again.

Wonderful Villa, Walkable! Still Construction

This stay was one of our favorites. Effie was so welcoming and very accommodating to us. The place was great! It was perfect for what we needed. It was private and easily accessible to everything. The house's private pool and open windows made it such a different feeling! There is still construction going on next door, no beach naps were taken due to the incessant jack hammers from 9-4 pm. We would stay again!

Unique hacienda

Casa Libra is such a special property in PV! A real hidden gem not far from all the sights of the romantic zone, but very private and secluded in Alta Vista. Beautiful Mexican style artwork all over the property, almost like a small art museum. The pool is a perfect mix of sun and shade all day. Effie was a great help stocking the house with groceries. She also left us fresh made guacamole, pico, and two pitchers of margaritas to enjoy on our stay!

Fantastic

Such a great property. Amazing view from the upstairs bedroom. We loved having breakfast on the terrace every morning and relaxing by the pool in the afternoon. Effie and Francisco were great. I speak minimal Spanish but we got by. You will definitely get your steps in if you stay here. We’ve stayed in the hills before so we are used to it. Getting a cab is no problem though. We would definitely stay here again.

LOVELY HOUSE AND VERY CONVENIENTLY LOCATED

Upon arrival, Effie had a bowl of guacamole and pico prepared for us, as well as a refreshing margharita. The house was very large and the pool area was beautiful, as well as private. The house was very conveniently located, close to town. The only disadvantage to this was the around 160 steps you have to descend and climb to get back. We often opted for a cab to bring us back, especially when carrying packages or after drinking a little too much. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Authentic Inside and Out

Really had that old world feel. Loved Effie, the housekeeper. She’s a great cook. Went above and beyond assisting us throughout our stay. The condominium previously mentioned in reviews is near completion. Some noise but not awful. Updated photos are needed to reflect the new view. Much, not all, of the bay is blocked by the condo.

Wonderful property

If you are looking for a larger property off of the town, this is the place for you! Effie the housekeeper is amazing! She was there on time for check in and check out. As many others have said, there is construction going on across the street. They start around 7:30-12:00ish and then start back from their siesta around 2:00-5:30ish. Honestly it became white noise for our family. Overall, a wonderful property.

Absolutely amazing property!

Casa Libra was a gorgeous property and location for a trip with a group of friends. The property is not new, but it is well maintained and very clean. Effie (property manager) as noted in prior reviews knows limited English, but we had one in our group that was fluent in Spanish, so between him and translation apps, we communicated just fine. Francisco did a great job keeping the pool and grounds clean. The only negative about the location being up on the hillside, there are many sets of stairs to climb. Going down was pretty easily manageable, but many in our group regularly ordered Ubers to go back up (which were very abundant and also amazingly affordable!). We also had no problems whatsoever being dropped off by the Uber drivers nor being picked up quickly when we ordered a ride out.Looking forward to experiencing the property again on our next visit to PV.

Great Proper

This was a beautiful property! From the welcoming that came with Margaritas and homemade guacamole and pico de gallo! The spacious open area Wes well kept and clean. The pool was also heated which was a nice surprise for early morning swims. We used the kitchen to cook one meal and everything was readily available in the home to make a steak and potato dinner. The master bedroom was my favorite part of the house but the overall rustic look, the artwork, and endless plants and greenery makes this vacation part of my top 5. Would def stay again and would def recommend. On another note was in constant contact with the owners who made check in and check out seam less. Effie the house keeper was on call for us and the pool maintenance was done once during our stay to ensure chemical levels were up to par. Love this rental!

Casa Libra February 2024

we were a group of seven older adults enjoying Casa Libra. This property has a wonderful authentic Mexican feel. We loved the pool area and being able to open up all the bedrooms and kitchen / living area to the open air. House was generally clean but we did feel that the kitchen could benefit from some deep cleaning. Master bedroom is amazing and the secondary bedrooms were very comfortable. The fourth bedroom is quite small but it okay for a single person. The location is generally quiet but there were a few annoying cats fighting through the night. We did not experience any construction noises that were noted by earlier reviews. Travellers with mobility challenges should be aware that getting to the shops/restaurants may require taxi's to be used as the house is "up the hill". If mobility not a challenge, the steps are fine.

Beautiful Hacienda

Home gives you the sense that you are in a beautiful Hacienda. Lots of tile work, unique art objects, beautiful architectural features. Effie, the housekeeper, welcomes you with margaritas and guacamole. She is a delight! Do have her prepare a meal or more for you. We had the most amazing breakfast and another day we enjoyed a lunch that was absolutely delicious. Homemade tortillas, homemade salsas, birria, quesadillas, all the trimmings, it was really a wonderful experience. The only downside of this beautiful place is that it is on a very steep, narrow cobblestone street. So do plan to use Uber which is very accessible and very reasonable wherever you’re going unless you are a trained athlete, or perhaps a mountain goat. There was some noise from the condominium construction but only a minor distraction in the morning and daytime. This is a lovely property, a very welcoming and wonderful housekeeper, and responsive owners. My family and I enjoyed our stay very much.

Beautiful space and Effie is amazing

Magical place to stay that is an easy walk down to Zona Romantica. There is a challenging walk back up the stairs, but it’s close by. Effie was lovely and did not speak a ton of English, but communicated well with my very basic Spanish. She offered to wash our clothes toward the fourth day of our trip and did a great job cleaning. There is an envelope for tips for her and the gardener/pool person. There is some construction at the condo nearby, but only during the day. I never noticed it in my room. The fourth bedroom under the stairs does not have air conditioning, but does have a very powerful fan. I was tired enough after each adventure day to not notice, but if you have trouble sleeping without ac, keep that in mind. The pool was clean and well cared for, with plenty of towels for everyone. There were cooking supplies, but we didn’t use them. A large jug of processed water is always full, so we didn’t have to worry about buying water bottles. Overall a great place to stay and I plan to come back!

Great Family Vacation!

Casa Libre was a great place to have a family vacation. Everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom. Plus lots of group spaces. It was really nice to have our own pool with a lounge chair for everyone. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. Effie does a great job of keeping the house clean and everything in order, and even did our laundry. She had 6 frozen lime margaritas waiting for us when we arrived complete with salted rims. Plus guacamole, salsa and chips. Perfect snacks for arrival. Effie also found a couple important items we left behind when checking out. Luckily our shuttle was a little late and she got it back to us before we left. Five stars for Effie. Francisco worked hard keeping the yard and pool in order. Always happy and cheerful as he worked. Beautiful yard made you feel like you were the only ones around. Note for future renters. The BBQ uses briquettes which can be purchased at the nearest Oxxo. We had many delicious family BBQ suppers. We would definitely check this property out again for a large group.

Casa Libra was wonderful! The home is exactly as pictured in the photos, and the owners have obviously taken a lot of pride in appointing it over the years. It is a beautiful, traditional Mexican-style hacienda: large, comfortable, and the perfect spot for our three-generation family vacation. The grandparents enjoyed the upstairs level with the amazing view where they could retire early while the "kids" and grandkids enjoyed relaxing around the dining table to visit over cervezas and play the games we brought. Our kids, ages 10 and 8, absolutely loved the pool (we brought some pool toys with us to keep them entertained), and the patio, courtyard, and yard are all lush with flowers, trees, and tropical birds. The location was fantastic - 10 to 15 minutes walk to the cathedral, the Malecon, Gringo Gulch, and Playa Los Muertos but away from most of the city noise. The lane is quiet and felt secure with locked gate. It is a pretty steep hike up the 170 steps but easy to get a taxi if needed. Vista Grill is an easy landmark for cab drivers (and was the perfect spot for dinner our last night). Effie the housekeeper is a doll and felt like a member of the family. She does make great guacamole, as other reviewers have noted, and also prepared a wonderful meal for us (for a small fee and the cost of groceries) and arranged cabs on request. Francisco the gardener is also very friendly. Together, they take lovely care of the home and are very attentive. The owners were great and very communicative about all the arrangements. We have been owners of this property and have raised some of our grand children here for vacations and other events. Back in the '80s we fell in love with the area and people so much so that they are family friends today. How could we miss, coming from the midwest with those cold winters and ice and snow, this is the place. Since we can't always use the house we have decided to make it available for others who can appreciate it's beauty and relaxing atmosphere.
