An exotic and luxurious vacation rental with ocean views, surrounded by the natural beauty of St. John National Park. A short walk from the beaches of Hawksnest Bay, this three bedroom, three bath Japanese style house has three spacious decks, a plunge pool, air conditioning, outdoor shower, and an airy living room.

A vacation house perched on the hillside above the old bay rum distillery at Hawksnest Bay, this unusual hardwood house has three bedrooms, a lovely kitchen, various decks, and a plunge pool for cooling off.

Wake up in a mahogany and koa bed and see the turquoise water without raising your head from the pillow. Reach for a cold Ting™ right out of your own bedroom fridge and walk out on the deck to take in the tropical foliage and count the sailboats below. Stroll five minutes to the beach for a morning dip and return to brew your fresh ground coffee and lean back in a hammock to watch the banana keets squabble about for your amusement.

An important note to prospective guests with mobility issues: There is a fairly long staircase from the driveway to the house, which may be too strenuous for some people. Please see the photos for an idea of the staircase.

The ultimate tree house!

What a fantastic property! Make sure you know that your group will be climbing many stairs, although the location and easy access to Oppenheimer are worth every step! The amenities provided with the house, chairs, sun tent, snorkels, spices, olive oil, and beach towels were great necessities! We cooked several nights in the house and found everything we needed. I can't say enough about the concierge, Jennifer! She had fresh fish for us upon arrival! Do yourself a favor and reach out to them asap once you're booked to help with planning!

Amazing view and location

This is our second time staying at Mampoo house. This is a great place with amazing views and ideal location. Walking distance to Oppenheimer beach and a short drive to town. Love the plunge pool. Unique Japanese inspired architecture. Surrounded by nature. Love the zen feel!

An Oasis in the Trees

What a great stay we had a Mampoo House. The location and views are spectacular and the property has all of the modern amenities for a comfortable stay. Communication with Jen & Joey was great and they were really helpful making sure all of our needs were met during our stay. Running the stairs provides a great workout for those looking to get some fitness in during their stay. The plunge pool was perfect to cool off after the workout or at the end of the day. Would definitely book Mampoo House on a return visit!

Absolute perfection

Our group of 4 had a spectacular stay at Mampoo house. It is so well appointed, easy to cook in, super relaxing and beautiful. The plunge pool is an absolute delight, perfect for relaxing after a long day of snorkeling. Being so close to Oppenheimer beach was a joy to discover and made for a wonderful short walk each day. The property managers are wonderful to work with - so attentive and helpful with any questions we had. The owners of the property were so kind and really took care of us, ensuring that we had a lovely time on the the island. Would highly recommend this property.

Amazing house, location and vacation!

Mampoo house is a unique and amazing experience. We came for two weeks to celebrate our wedding anniversary and loved every minute. The location can't be beat. Right on the north shore drive, close to all the great beaches (hawksnest, trunk, cinnamon) and close to town yet secluded and private! A winning combo!! The view is incredible; the walk to the beach is easy and rewarding as you end up in an "almost" exclusive Oppenheimer beach; the house is an architectural beauty with its shoji doors creating spaces that immediately put you into vacation zen; the plunge pool is ideal for cooling off; and the extra bedrooms on the lower level provide for nice separate, space for everyone. (We had friends come and stay with us for a few days). Overall amazing house and wonderful stay with the house managers being attentive and responsive. I do recommend you read the house description as they are not kidding about the stairs and you are surrounded by nature so... yes you will hear crickets, frogs, roosters, and such at night (and day)! Loved it and plan to come back as soon as we can!

Our stay was exceptional. The house is beautiful and in a great location. The beach is only a short walk away and is gorgeous. Communication with the property manager, Jen, was easy and she was really helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Incredible Location and Island

Everything about the Mampoo house was perfect. All of the necessities for a vacation and the extra touches the manager puts on it shouldn't be overlooked. From providing a welcome basket to giving advice on places to go it really made the trip special. Would absolutely stay again and had a great time hiking/snorkeling.

Great House, Location and View

Other than a steep driveway, it was almost perfect. View was amazing and location meant that we had a short walk to one of the best (but least crowded) beaches on St. John.

Paradise found

This property is so beautiful, with an amazing view. Private yet an easy drive to Cruz Bay (we chanted "stay left" whenever leaving). The architecture is gorgeous and the Ipe wood used throughout was smooth and cool, even in direct sun so it was comfortable going barefoot. The 72 stairs only made us plan a little better... Recycling the old cistern into a plunge pool was a brilliant idea, we used it daily. Concierge Jen was helpful and informative- she is invaluable. Already starting to plan our next trip!

Words Can’t Describe

The reality of the Mampoo House can’t be accurately captured in photos or a write up — but I will try. First the service from the concierge Jen was world class from the lead up - always ready with a quick answer/suggestion to any question… she arranged to have the house stocked with food and drink so we would be set from the moment we arrived then even met us at the ferry to bring us to the house and get set. The house it self is so unique and is both architecturally beautiful while remaining cozy and comfortable. The setting is completely serene and private — time spent at the house outdoors on the multiple decks / plunge pool // cooking meals in a beautifully equipped chefs kitchen // lounging in the screened in common area were among some of our favorite of the vacation. The location in Hawknest is among the best you could ask for with a quick walk to a beach or a quick drive to every North Shore Beach. You are also a ten minute drive to Cruz Bay for nightlife and restaurants and Coral Bay is 25 minutes the other direction. I feel lucky to have spent a week here and will return soon.

Beautiful house in a stunning location

We absolutely loved waking up in Mampoo House. It is one of the most relaxing places we've ever stayed. This is a modern home that follows Japanese design principles - Ipa floors, decking, interiors, ceiling fans, delicate shoji panels all blended perfectly with the surrounding forest. Everything was well kept and clean, and we appreciated the extra touches including nice beach towels, chairs, sunshade, coolers, and even umbrellas (though we didn't need them!). Our host Jen was helpful and responsive, and the location of the house on the north side of the island was very convenient to town and the north side beaches.

It's all about the view!

What a beautiful place to be! Charming architecture perched on a hillside with a gorgeous view of the bay below. Nice location on the north shore of the island, close enough to Cruz Bay to go for groceries/wine/dinner and lots of beaches/bays/hikes to chose from nearby. Our concierge, Jennifer was amazing--very attentive and accommodating. We did fine with the 70 steps, but we're pretty fit for 70-year-olds. We didn't quite get the purpose of the plunge pool, but maybe some people will like it. This rental worked great for 2 couples, but if a third couple is added, the ones who sleep on the upper level must be either VERY sound sleepers or VERY early risers, as the roosters start crowing before dawn and the windows have only screens--no glass. The downstairs bedrooms are nearly soundproof and nice and cool from the air conditioning. The upstairs is cooled by ceiling fans and breezes from outside and was always comfortable. The house is very well equipped, and the only thing we found lacking was lighting for the deck, but Jennifer dropped off 2 great rechargeable LED lanterns right away which solved that problem. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful Home!

My family of two adults and three teenagers greatly enjoyed our week-long stay at Mampoo House. The views are truly amazing. The pictures don’t do the views justice. We spent a lot of time sitting on the porch at all hours enjoying the view of Hawksnest Bay. Great shade and sun, and privacy. We found the home to be clean and welcoming. The beds were comfortable. We used the stove, oven, dishwasher, air conditioning and coffee maker, and all worked well. And the property manager, Jen, was gracious and helpful. When I told her I was going to bake a birthday cake, she went out of her way to ensure there were cake pans at the home. She had recommendations for how to get groceries stocked ahead of time, where to rent a boat for a snorkel trip, casual restaurants (and fancy), and beach logistics. Our trip was very special in large part due to our wonderful accommodations. Thank you!

Great view, right above hawksnest beach

Very eclectic home, like a treehouse. It does have a lot of stairs to get from the parking lot to the house. Great views of the bay and ocean from the house.

Perfection—we had a wonderful time in a piece of heaven. Quiet and secluded, but with gorgeous views and steps from a white sand beach. Jennifer was fantastic and knowledgeable and made our stay feel like being at home. Looking forward to coming back.

Serenity with a breeze.

The Japanese inspired architecture overlooking Hawksnest Bay was simply serene. Loved the plunge pool and star gazing at night. Would love to go back again. Big “thanks” to Jennifer, the concierge, for all of your help with planning and logistics.
