Adult-only, luxury villa in tropical oasis, close to restaurants & beach

Isla Retreats was envisioned to provide what we value in an adults-only hotel: tranquility, and a unique Caribbean-Mexican experience. At Isla Retreats, our guests are sheltered and pampered in order to relax, savor the lovely island, and recharge. Our common area has been tailored to provide a peaceful ambiance featuring tropical gardens, a heated, salt-water swimming pool with waterfalls, beach chairs and umbrellas, and a mayan-inspired palapa. By keeping the grounds as green as possible and meticulously selecting local tropical plants and coconut palms, we believe we ensured a harmonious merge with nature, rather than displacing it.

On-site parking is available for golf carts next to the security guard’s office. The island’s main grocery store, Chedruai - where you can find imported food items, a bakery, and a nice selection of wines and liquors - is a mere few blocks away. Directly across the street from the property is a “tiendita” corner store that offers beer, soft drinks, ice, eggs, and many other basic groceries.

There are 6 villas at Isla Retreats. All are upscale, tastefully decorated, and fully furnished with everything you will need for your stay. All villas have smart TVs and high speed WiFi Internet. We provide beach towels and bath towels, high quality linens, a hair dryer, and iron/ironing board for your use. There is an in-room safe to store your valuables and passports. Housekeeping (daily or as requested) is available at no extra charge (tips are appreciated!). There is on-site staff available to accommodate our guests in setting up golf cart rentals and other activities.

Villa #3 is a one bedroom unit on the ground floor with a king size bed, one bathroom, a living room, dining area and a full kitchen. The kitchen includes a full size refrigerator, microwave, 4-burner cooktop and oven, blender, coffeepot, toaster - everything you need to make this your home away from home experience. There is air conditioning in each room, all modern stainless steel appliances, marble counter tops and marble floors, and cable TV.

my wife and i had a great time here. the location is solid, near good restaurants and not far from playa norte. katy and team were great hosts. the units are large and very well decorated.

Beautiful property

Isla retreat has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The villa # 3 was much more than expected. The owner was slow to respond after the initial booking when we had to make changes to our reservation it took a number of attempts to get a response but the owner did accommodate our changes. Overall definitely a great place to stay.

Beautiful property with gorgeous artistic sculptures and wonderful staff. We spent a lot of time enjoying the very nice pool with waterfalls. Not a lot within walking distance - cabs are typically easy to hail depending on the time of day. Having a golf cart is ideal and really opens up the whole island for exploration. A beautiful property to return to at the end of the day.

Isla oasis

Tropical gem in the middle of Isla with easy access by foot or cart to town. Loved our beautifully decorated villa with a comfy bed, plenty of hooks, hangers, and drawers made it easy to fully unpack and make it our home for five days. Coffee and wine provided. Lots of towels and daily housekeeping. The property was spotlessly clean. The pool was warm enough to never be chilly but still refreshing. Relaxed for hours poolside where at most there were six other people but often had it to ourselves. Excellent communication with our host - they even zipped up to the ferry dock to bring me a left behind item. Highly recommend!

Lovely escape

One never knows what to expect when one arrives at a VRBO property and this one did not disappoint. Removed from the hubbub of Playa Norte, Isla Retreats offers a peaceful and serene setting, spacious and comfortable quarters and a comprehensive list of restaurant recommendations. The hostess is very responsive and helpful. The staff is friendly and efficient. Our unit had everything we needed. We do recommend having the hostess make arrangements for a golf cart for ease in exploration and going to the beach and out to eat.

New Tradition

I'm hesitant to write a review cause I'd love to keep this property as our little secret but the space and service was too wonderful not to share. This property is off the beaten path and quiet, which we appreciated immensely, has all the comforts of home and I've literally never stayed anywhere cleaned, and I'm and clean nut. Katy was so incredibly responsive to anything that came up and the cats roaming the property were great company.

I had a wonderful stay at Isla Retreats. It’s a top notch property. I stayed in a one bedroom villa that was more than spacious and had all the amenities you would need for a longer stay. This included a fully equipped kitchen with new equipment and amenities. The living room had comfortable couch and relaxing chairs. Big screen Tv with Netflix. The bedroom and bathroom were comparable to a very nice hotel. The pool was incredible and there was an outdoor palapa with a gas grill bar and refrigerator. All the amenities of the villa were great. What made it special was the staff. Katy, the manager, was an incredible host. She was always around and had great recommendations. She also coordinated a delivery of fresh caught lobsters and fish for a very special Christmas Eve dinner. Her staff were also terrific and made sure my stay was comfortable. The apartment was cleaned everyday and they even did my laundry! I would highly, highly recommend this property.

BEAUTIFUL!!!

We absolutely loved our time here. It is truly a paradise. There is NOTHING that Katy and staff have not thought of to make your stay wonderful! Katy was also very helpful with places to go, getting a taxi for us and having a golf cart delivered for us. Our only regret was our time was too short… but we will definitely stay here again next visit! Thank you for everything Katy!!

Katy and her staff were welcoming and provided excellent advice on local restaurants and activities. The building and room is well maintained and clean. Villa #3 is massive and we loved staying there.

Nous avons beaucoup aimé Isla Retreats

Juillet 2022 - Tout était formidable. Nous avons séjourné pendant 10 jours. La villa est impeccablement propre. Le personnel est très sympathique et la communication est facile avec les propriétaires qui sont très serviables. La villa est à environ 5 minutes de la plage en voiture et à 30 minutes à pied mais il fait beaucoup trop chaud pour marcher en été. Nous avons loué une voiturette de golf pour 1300 pesos mais il y a des taxis partout pour entre 60 et 80 pesos pour aller à la plage ou au Centro. Il y a un très grand marché pour l'épicerie pas trop loin à 5 minutes en voiture ou sinon il y a un mini dépanneur juste en face qui est très utile. Mon mari et moi avons adoré cet endroit et nous y retournerons certainement.

When you travel it is sometimes a gamble with your choices. Not here, David, Katy and all the staff were always gracious and helpful and polite. There were absolutely no surprises. This is a unique boutique resort that went above and beyond. Achieving Excellence!

Amazing, Beautiful, Comfortable stay. Excellent se

My 2 daughters and I and a family friend had the most amazing time at Isla Retreats. Katy and her Fun loving father were amazing hosts! Katy was so gracious helped with our golf cart rental. The staff was great. I had to go across the street to the tiny store for a cpl things and the sweet housekeeper followed me to help me with my Spanish. The rooms we had suites 3 and 4 were so comfortable, linens, towels so comfortable. The kitchen had everything u coukd want. Always plenty of fresh water..doing the dishes was a treat looking out to the lagoon and picking a col limes from the lime tree and watching the hummingbirds feast on the nectar. So many delicious places to walk and eat. Every morning I would walk across the street with my coffee and sit on the wall and watch the waves and sea glass hunt. I will definitely come back to this paradise. Grounds and Pool were spectacular. Thank You!! I felt very safe always, but I always do on this magical Island. Keep up the good work Isla Retreats. I will see you soon. One more thing...the best Shower/Water pressure I have ever had on the Island. This was my 9th different place i have stayed over the years.

Amazing Vacation!

We just got home and we already want to go back! My husband and I instantly fell in love with the Island and Isla Retreats. We stayed in Villa #3 and it was very upscale, and had all of the comforts of home. The rooms were completely spotless, and clean. These accommodations exceeded our expectations - this property is definitely the most beautiful we’ve seen on the Island. I loved all of the closet space in the bedrooms, and the kitchen has the best cookware and cutlery . There is not a detail that has been over-looked, and the service is top- notch! The owners and staff are so accommodating and friendly. Everyone made sure our experience each day was perfect. We enjoyed many different local restaurants nearby, and the food was Always Amazing! The pool area is very peaceful and relaxing (I loved the saltwater pool). And we enjoyed spending 'happy hour' each day, under the palapa. We can't wait to plan our next vacation at Isla Retreats!

Beautiful Property. Great location!

Isla Retreats is a beautiful, well maintained property and our villa was well equipped. Katy is a warm, wonderful hostess who thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Awesome mid-island location within walking distance to the Caribbean and delicious restaurants. Ample space to park golf carts and taxis are readily available just out front of the property. The pool is beautiful and we loved the waterfall feature. This is a quiet relaxing property. We look forward to returning someday.

Beautiful property with gracious hosts

My family and I stayed in Villas 3 and 4 for a week. Outside, the setting is gorgeous, with tropical foliage, artwork, salt-water pool and colorful dwellings. Inside the decor is perfect for the island setting, the furniture and beds comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped, and between the two villas we had more than enough room for 3 adults. But as impressive as the villas were, even more impressive was the kindness and helpfulness of our hosts. Katy assisted us over the week in ways big and small. She was very available and quick to make sure our stay was pleasant or to provide us with suggestions as to restaurants or places to visit. David worked around the property, making sure everything was just right for his guests. The island itself was great, the people friendly. Even though we could say little more than por favor and gracias, somehow we got along well. We walked all over the island and took a cab for the longer distances or the return. The food was delicious, with some of our better meals coming from the less-assuming restaurants. Mango Café was one of our favorites.

Perfect Vacation

Isla Retreats was the perfect getaway location. Descriptions that come to mind for the property include: tranquil, tropical, peaceful, and beautiful. It’s location is ideal for travel into Playa Norte or to the opposite end of the island. In addition, there are many delicious restaurants just a few blocks away. Katy is the ideal host, always available, and always with a smile. She even arranged for our golf carts to be waiting, upon our arrival to the property. The outdoor pool was a treat, perfect for an afternoon cool down. I can’t say enough about our stay. We can’t wait to return!

Beautiful place

This is our 3rd time to stay on the Island. First time at Isla Retreats. This is a beautiful place. The condos are lovely and have everything you need. We rented golf carts and Katy had them ready for us upon arrival which was so nice. We headed out right away to grocery shop etc. and get ready for our stay. This place is quiet and clean, relaxing and modern. A golf cart is necessary as the swimming Beach is more than a walk away. But we liked heading out to the beach in the morning and returning to a quiet place at night. Katy and Dave did a great job with place.

Isla Retreats is owned and operated by father and daughter team, Dave and Katy Hochmayr. We began coming to Isla Mujeres in 1989 and it soon became our second home. We love the unique family and cultural ambiance on the island that creates a very comfortable and relaxing place to live and vacation.

We purchased the property where Isla Retreats is located as an empty lot in 2006 and began building in February of 2016. We are very excited to have finally finished the project in May of 2017. The design and vision of Isla Retreats came from Dave - he creatively thought of the most unique details that make this property so exceptional.

There are many extraordinary hand-carved marble and onyx sculptures throughout the property as well.
