Clean, upscale, adult-only villas at Isla Retreats in a tropical oasis!

We are very excited about our project, Isla Retreats, that we completed in May 2017. Our main goal for Isla Retreats is to provide an adults only, tranquil and unique Caribbean-Mexican experience. Guests can get away from the hustle-bustle of downtown and everyday life to relax and savor the lovely island. We designed the common area to create a peaceful ambience featuring a salt-water pool with waterfalls, beach chairs and umbrellas, tropical gardens and an exquisite palapa. We wanted to keep as much green-space as possible, so we designed the property with many tropical plants and coconut trees. There are many extraordinary hand-carved marble and onyx sculptures throughout the property as well.

Isla Retreats is located five minutes from downtown and Playa Norte, at the beginning of the safe and charming neighborhood, Salina Chica, just past the airport and the college, Bachilleres. Within walking distance, you will find a tennis and basketball court, many local stores, grocery stores and places to buy fresh juice, fruits and vegetables. It is easy to catch a taxi in front of the property to go downtown or to the beach. Parking is available for golf carts as well. Isla Retreats is private, yet close to downtown where you will find many shops, restaurants, bars and live music. If you want to stay in the neighborhood and not go to town, Isla Retreats is located within walking distance to many popular restaurants: Rosa Sirena's, Aurora, Mango Cafe, Caribbean Brisas, Kash Keken Chuc and Green Verde, to name a few. We are located three blocks from the main grocery store on the island, Chedruai, which includes a number of important food items, a bakery, a nice selection of wines and liquors.

Our saltwater pool is only for guests staying at Isla Retreats and Casa de Katy. To keep the grounds quiet, safe and private, we do not allow use of the pool by people who are not staying at Isla Retreats or Casa de Katy. You can enjoy the sounds of the waterfall while sitting by the pool or under the palapa. The palapa and pool area are perfect for coffee and fresh orange juice in the morning, and cocktails in the evenings - or anytime!

There are 6 villas at Isla Retreats. All are upscale, tastefully decorated, and fully furnished with everything you will need for your stay. All villas have smart TVs and high speed WiFi Internet. We provide beach towels and bath towels, high quality linens, a hair dryer, and iron/ironing board for your use. There is an in-room safe to store your valuables and passports. Housekeeping (daily or as requested) is available at no extra charge (tips are appreciated!). There is on-site staff available to accommodate our guests in setting up golf cart rentals and other activities.

Villa #4 is a one bedroom unit with a king size bed and a bathroom. There is a mini-refrigerator, microwave and coffeepot - similar to a hotel room. Villa #4 can be rented with Villa #3 as a two bedroom Villa or as an individual unit.

This place is amazing. Our room was well designes and very comfortable. I really loved the bathroom! The room has plenty of drinking water, a fridge, coffee maker, and microwave. The pool is really clean and very comfortable water temp. The staff are the best part. Everyone at Isla Retreats is so wonderful. The cleaning staff is exceptional! I am so sad I am allergic to cats because I really wanted to pet them! Katy is an amazing host, she even facilitated us having a golf cart delivered to the retreat. Amazing place!

Loved this quiet oasis in a slice of paradise!

Katy was wonderful with communication. The other staff were also wonderful. We were lucky as we got to check in a bit early and check out a bit later. Our room was very comfortble. It is a small quiet place to stay with a short golf cart ride to the north end. The cats on the property are sweet. We will stay again.

Absolutely AHHHHHHHmazing!

Our stay with Katy was perfect from the get go. Her place is so clean and it looks even better than the pictures! We slept wonderful in the comfy bed. We enjoy the kitties who roam around the property. We had morning coffee by the pool everyday which was a great way to start the morning. The location is great...lots of places to walk to or easy to get a cab ride to the beach. Katy is very friendly and super helpful. I would absolutely stay here again anytime! 5 out of 5 stars..highly recommend!

Itā€™s not that often that you get to say a place exceeds your expectations. But Isla Retreats does just that. First, Katy was fantastic and greeted us minutes after our arrival and gave us some tips and and recommendations for our first Isla getaway. Second, our room was spotless and maybe I didnā€™t read the fine print, but our room was made up every day! There arenā€™t very many VRBO rentals that can claim that. This is a small, boutique resort that feels as luxurious as many of the larger resorts in the Cancun area. Oh, and my wife fell in love with the cats that live on the property! 100% recommend!

The property is very nice and clean. Itā€™s nothing close by so you have to get a taxi to move around. Every time I had to get a taxi I was charged differently šŸ¤”. Property has a golf car but was rented when I ask for it. If you need to rent a golf car itā€™s better to do it with the property better price and convenience. Recomendable šŸ’Æ.

Perfect Isla getaway

The location for this property is perfectly centered on the island. Nice parking area for golf carts and scooters. Beautiful foliage and incredible pool that was all very well kept. Some very friendly kitties kept us company in the courtyard area during our stay which was just an added bonus. Katy was absolutely wonderful and very easy to communicate with. We will be staying here again and again for our trips to Isla!

A wonderful retreat!

Everything was perfect. I loved all the high end finishes and little touches. This place was very thoughtfully designed and cared for. The tropical landscaping and pool area are beautiful. The housekeeping staff keeps everything very clean. I liked being away from the tourist area. Having a golf cart to get around makes touring around the island more fun but it is easy to catch a taxi anywhere you want to go. The bus into El Centro/Playa Norte also goes right past Isla Retreats. I liked to make coffee in the morning then walk across the street to watch the sun rise over the ocean. I also loved the lounge chairs in the pool. The owners were super nice and even turned the heater up a bit on the pool so it was more comfortable. (I was there on the tail end of hurricane season and got a lot of rainy weather during my stay.) I would come back here again!

Absolutely beautiful quaint property

Katy and her staff welcomed us upon arrival. The property is well maintained and clean. I loved the oasis type landscaping. We didnā€™t use the pool because we were constantly on the go, but it looked wonderful. Convenient to the grocery store and famous Mango Cafe. It is a trek to the downtown area, but we rented a golf cart. The island isnā€™t that big and everyone golf carts around to explore the island. Our room was perfect for 2 people and greeted us with a bottle of wine. This is the perfect place for a nice, quiet getaway. There are connecting rooms to accommodate a family. Thank you Katy!

Well maintained and landscaped resort

Great tiny resort, a short cab ride from the downtown area, but still within walking distance to several bars, restaurants and grocery stores. Rooms are very clean and well maintained. Check in was effortless and the information package provided prior to our arrival was very useful. Staff is very attentive and helpful. Isla Mujeres is a great spot for a laid back winter getaway. I would not recommend using Best Days for the transfer from the airport. Very unorganized and late on both the arrival and return trip.

Simply an Oasis in Isla Mujeres!

Lush, green, immaculate property and villas. The pool with waterfall was a double treat! Close to everything~the sea, beaches, a variety of restaurants and markets. Quiet residential area away from the noise of Playa Norte. The owner was extremely helpful with recommendations for everything from tours, restaurants and golf cart rentals to superb salon services, and artful shopping . We felt as though we had our own personal valet. We enjoyed a stress free vacation and made some awesome new friends ~ Our stay couldn't have been better! Thank you Katy & Dave & Vianka ~

Beautiful retreat on Isla Mujeres!

Isla Retreats is a gem on Isla Mujeres. The design and layout of the villas, saltwater pool and lush tropical environment is of superior quality. We enjoyed the attention to detail in every part of our experience at Isla Retreats. Our unit and the grounds were very clean. The bed was comfortable. Bath towels, pool towels and beach towels are all provided. Isla Retreats is centrally located on the Island. I highly recommend renting a golf cart. It's a fun way to explore, as well as get around the island. After a day of exploring the island or visiting the beach it was so relaxing to come back to the quiet of Isla Retreats and swim in the saltwater pool. Katy Hochmayr was pleasure to work with! She gave us very helpful and detailed information prior to our arrival and was available during our visit. Katy was very responsive and was a wonderful host! I can highly recommend visiting Isla Retreats and working with Katy.

The property was beautiful and looked exactly like the pictures. It was impeccably kept... neat and tidy in every way. Not a single bad thing to be said about it. We stayed closer to the downtown area for the first 3 days of our week long stay on Isle Mujere and very much enjoyed the quieter 4 nights staying at Isla Retreats. Easy to rent a golf cart or take a taxi to go back and forth to the downtown area. Would definitely stay again!!!

A Personal Touch above the Rest

My husband and I have been to Isla well over a dozen times in the past 10 years. Private, very comfortable, secluded and more than anything...the personal touch spoke volumes. The property is new and amazingly thought out. Although not ocean front and not in North Beach, there is a nicety of staying away from the crowds and hustle and bustle of North Beach, and returning to your home away from home for some serenity. Villas are designed around the landscape. Beautiful palms trees, landscaping and scenery. Ours was a smaller villa - not much larger than an upscale room in the U.S. but offering so much more. It is the first time in years I can recall having hot water for all those showering, incredible water pressure and the bed and pillows being as comfortable as home. The villa had a microwave (for those interested) and a frig (the first time I have seen one on Isla that had a cold water dispenser built in). I enjoyed the ability to sit outside our room during a rain storm, enjoying a nice breeze but not being rained on or blown away as one would be at an ocean side property. There is a pool, outside shower and outside restroom for those using the pool. Off to the side of the pool is a palapa with a bar, frig (to store your beverages for pool or outside activities), tables, chairs and a BBQ grill available for all to use. One of the nice things is this is not a large property, accommodating many. The "seal the deal" factor was and is Katy's personal touch. My husband and I have travelled the world and it is the personal touch that truly matters. A personal note was left by Katy in our room with a welcome bottle of wine. Katy is a hands on owner who makes herself available daily to ensure you have and want everything you need. She is friendly and truly cares. Her father it so much the same. They have raised the bar for property owners. New repeat customers earned. Thank you Katy and Dave!

Isla Retreats is owned and operated by father and daughter team, Dave and Katy Hochmayr. We began coming to Isla Mujeres in 1989 and it soon became our second home. We love the unique family and cultural ambiance on the island that creates a very comfortable and relaxing place to live and vacation.

We purchased the property where Isla Retreats is located as an empty lot in 2006 and began building in February of 2016. We are very excited to have finally finished the project in May of 2017. The design and vision of Isla Retreats came from Dave - he creatively thought of the most unique details that make this property so exceptional.

Our main goal for Isla Retreats is to provide an adults only, tranquil and unique Caribbean-Mexican experience. Guests can get away from the hustle-bustle of downtown and everyday life to relax and savor the lovely island. We designed the common area to create a peaceful ambience featuring a salt-water pool with waterfalls, beach chairs and umbrellas, tropical gardens and an exquisite palapa. We wanted to keep as much green-space as possible, so we designed the property with many tropical plants and coconut trees. There are many extraordinary hand-carved marble and onyx sculptures throughout the property as well.

We enjoy working with our guests directly so that they can have the best vacation possible, as we know how special and memorable vacations are. We look forward to sharing Isla Retreats with many guests in the years to come.

With over 15 years experience of living and working on the island, and being fluent in both Spanish and English, Katy will be able to answer all of your questions relating to your vacation at Isla Retreats throughout the reservation process.
