We are very excited about our project, Isla Retreats, that we completed in May 2017. Our main goal for Isla Retreats is to provide an adults only, tranquil and unique Caribbean-Mexican experience. Guests can get away from the hustle-bustle of downtown and everyday life to relax and savor the lovely island. We designed the common area to create a peaceful ambience featuring a salt-water pool with waterfalls, beach chairs and umbrellas, tropical gardens and an exquisite palapa. We wanted to keep as much green-space as possible, so we designed the property with many tropical plants and coconut trees. There are many extraordinary hand-carved marble and onyx sculptures throughout the property as well.

Isla Retreats is located five minutes from downtown and Playa Norte, at the beginning of the safe and charming neighborhood, Salina Chica, just past the airport and the college, Bachilleres. Within walking distance, you will find a tennis and basketball court, many local stores, grocery stores and places to buy fresh juice, fruits and vegetables. It is easy to catch a taxi in front of the property to go downtown or to the beach. Parking is available for golf carts as well. Isla Retreats is private, yet close to downtown where you will find many shops, restaurants, bars and live music. If you want to stay in the neighborhood and not go to town, Isla Retreats is located within walking distance to many popular restaurants: Rosa Sirena's, Aurora, Mango Cafe, Caribbean Brisas, Kash Keken Chuc and Green Verde, to name a few. We are located three blocks from the main grocery store on the island, Chedruai, which includes a number of important food items, a bakery, a nice selection of wines and liquors.

Our saltwater pool is only for guests staying at Isla Retreats and Casa de Katy. To keep the grounds quiet, safe and private, we do not allow use of the pool by people who are not staying at Isla Retreats or Casa de Katy. You can enjoy the sounds of the waterfall while sitting by the pool or under the palapa. The palapa and pool area are perfect for coffee and fresh orange juice in the morning, and cocktails in the evenings - or anytime!

There are 6 villas at Isla Retreats. All are upscale, tastefully decorated, and fully furnished with everything you will need for your stay. All villas have smart TVs and WiFi Internet. We provide beach towels and bath towels, high quality linens, a hair dryer, and iron/ironing board for your use. There is an in-room safe to store your valuables and passports. Housekeeping (daily or as requested) is available at no extra charge (tips are appreciated!). There is on-site staff available to accommodate our guests in setting up golf cart rentals and other activities.

Villa #6 is located on the second floor. This villa has a king size bed and a full kitchen that includes a full size refrigerator, 4-burner cooktop and oven, microwave, blender, coffeepot and toaster. Villa #6 looks out over the grounds and pool and has two private patios on either side of the villa.

Very well equipped little apartment. It was clean and bright and a lovely place to spend the week. It had everything one would need for a week away. The place was very well thought out and the attention to detail did not go unnoticed. It was centrally located and walking distance to most places. Katy the owner, was quick to answer any questions we had. We would definitely stay there again.

This was our first trip to beautiful Isla Mujeres, but it won't be our last! Our stay was surprisingly better than we expected! Our villa was spacious, comfortable and very well appointed. Our host didn't miss a beat. The extra touches were so very much appreciated. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will back for certain.

Wonderful island for a honeymoon

We really loved our stay at Isla Retreats. Katy was very helpful and gave us some great recommendations. Definately rent a golf cart it is worth every penny. The island is a great place to ride around and hop off your cart at the many beautiful spots and awesome beach bars. We loved the food at The Mango Cafe and enjoyed hanging out at a little bar called Marley's. Definately go to the Punta Sur lighthouse and walk the path along the coast. We are looking forward to another trip to the Island!

Relaxing Oasis

This property is exactly as pictured. The surprising part is the property owners. They are a wonderful family who treat you like family from the time you arrive until the day you leave. If you have any apprehension about this place, you’ll toss it out the window the moment you arrive! We felt so at home and so relaxed during our 2 week stay. Katy and her family are great people who put their heart and soul into this property and go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. The staff are in the same category- all beautiful people! We highly recommend Isla Retreats and will likely return! Thank you Katy, Robert, Dave, Mary and Terry and staff!

Fabulous Property!

Isla Retreats was such a wonderful property! So tranquil and relaxing! We split our week on Isla Mujeres between another property and Isla Retreats and would hands down stay the whole week (or longer) at Isla Retreats next time! Katy was so welcoming, responsive, and accommodating to all of our requests and even let us check out late on our last day! The room and grounds were immaculate and you really felt the attention to detail in everything. We opted to do taxis instead of a golf cart and the location was perfect - a short and inexpensive taxi ride to anywhere you want to go. Elizabeth did a wonderful job refreshing our room, and it was so nice to have the option of housekeeping services. We enjoyed the kitties and the beautiful sculptures and grounds. A fabulous place to stay - the only negative is that we didn't have more time! :( Muchas gracias, Katy y familia!

Fantastic property and owner

The pictures are exactly as taken. The space is truly an oasis with all amenities you need. Lots of thought and detail went into planning the space to optimize comfort. The staff onsite are super helpful and so is the owner Katy who is super helpful and communicative.

Good mid-island location that’s clean and well maintained

Check in was ok: we met the security guard at the entrance & introduced ourselves – he said nothing and walked us to our room. The apartment was nice, well appointed and very clean. There were no loungers on the patio as shown in the photos (& the website showed an old photo before the solar panels were installed) so one was smaller than expected. It was still plenty of room for us, but just unexpected & would recommend removing/updating the photo. The courtyard is beautiful and well maintained. The patio furniture was nice & well cared for. We were surprised to find welcome wine and ice cubes upon our arrival. The pool was hardly used by others while we were there and the water wasn’t heated unless someone was in it, which meant it was cooler than we would have liked. Another guest showed us how to turn on the waterfalls/heated water in the pool shed or we wouldn’t have known this information as well as a few other things (such as the resident cats fed in the common area & who beg at your patio door or windows each morning / evening plus the coconut water available in the refrigerator). A email address was provided for arranging our COVID tests & the person responded very quickly. The actual testers arrived over 1⁄2 hour late with the earliest appointment time allowed at 10:30am so it was a later start to our day than we would have liked. We’d pre-arranged a golf cart to be there on our first full day but was told the company had lost our reservation and arranged it for the following day. It was unfortunate to lose a full day of convenient mobility but we managed to get around anyway. Overall a nice place to stay on the island.

A peaceful, comfortable retreat with amazing hosts

From the moment we booked our stay Katy took care of us and anticipated our every need. While we stayed, her and the amazing staff were always thoughtful and accommodating. Amazing

Property is amazing and katy and her family are equally amazing. So much attention to detail was put in to this property. It is in the perfect location mid island and right across from a little store where you can buy drinks and snacks to enjoy in your room or out at the stunning pool/palapa area. Super clean room with all of the amenities, super comfortable bed, cold a/c, great linens/towels provided, smart TV, private balconies. This is paradise. Nothing more we could ask for. We can't wait to come back.

Small but very nice

This is a small but very clean and well appointed villa. Owners/ managers are very accommodating and easy to work with. My only complaint was that I had no internet in my Villa. It was also in the middle of “Carnival” which made the traffic and crowds very busy and loud. I should have done my homework better. LOL. Overall a very nice property!

Lovely retreat on Isla Mujeres

We decided sort of last minute to go to Isla Mujeres between Christmas and New Year's, and found this lovely villa. Everything about the property is exactly as presented and described in the listing. We found the bed to be very comfortable since the mattress is a bit firm (in a good way), the kitchen is well-stocked, and the private decks are a great bonus. The only suggestion we'd have is to put the table & chairs on the Salina Chica side since the view is nicer. The staff is also wonderful and friendly, and they took care of a couple of small maintenance issues very quickly. The location of Isla Retreats is great. It's sort of right in the middle of the island, making access to both the north and south sides easy. Katy helped us rent a golf cart for one of our days, and it was great to take on a spin down the south part of the island and Sac Bajo. The rest of the time we took taxis or walked to local spots in the neighborhood. There are a number of walkable restaurants in the area. We found our favorite meals at some of small local places, including La Chatita and Kash Keken Chuc (in the evening they have a large menu of inexpensive local dishes). We had a nice breakfast one morning at Mango Cafe and walked across to the church afterward. It's definitely worth a stop. Chedraui supermarket is nearby, as well a lots of mini-supers. We picked up pan dulces, yogurts and fruit that we had for breakfast most days, as well as some extra sunscreen and hats since we'd forgotten ours. Overall we couldn't have asked for much better for our first trip to Isla Mujeres and hope to return. Many thanks to Katy for creating such a lovely place.

Amazing Isla Retreats!

We had a wonderful nine nights at Isla Retreats! Villa 6 was spacious with two private outdoor balconies and all of the amenities you could want and a very comfortable bed. There is so much food available at local restaurants that we didn’t really cook, but you could if you wanted to in the fully equipped kitchen. We walked to nearby Chedraui grocery store for supplies and there are also a couple of small stores nearby for fruit, veggies, snacks and drinks. We really enjoyed the adults-only facility with beautiful pool and palapa. It is so hard to find adults-only villas! Katy was an awesome host and made us feel completely welcome and at home and even invited us to her chihuahua’s birthday party :-) Rosa and Elizabeth were attentive and kind in their housekeeping. We met Katy’s Dad, Dave, one day and it is so wonderful to see the pride of ownership by this father-daughter duo. They have done a magnificent job with this retreat. This was our second time to Isla Mujeres and it won’t be the last. We love that the villas are located in a residential area where we enjoyed lots of walks and chatting with locals. It is a hidden gem away from the hustle of Centro but close enough for a quick cab or golf cart ride to town. We are walkers and were happy to walk to town as well, just a couple of km away. Thank you Katy for a wonderful vacation!

A retreat into heaven

The property is beautiful in every way. Villa 6 has three private decks. The interior space is simply gorgeous, and the bed is comfy. There is a full kitchen with everything you might need or want. The pool is the perfect size and temperature. The lounge chairs are plentiful. The location is perfect. Not in the busy downtown but only a short 10 minute golf cart ride away and in a neighbourhood with a few good food gems of its own! A small convenience store is directly across the property. Katie is a perfect host. She truly cares about her guests. We will be back!

Exceeded expectations

We arrived at Isla Retreats on the 28th of December (for 8 nights) where we received a very warm welcome from Katy making us feel right at home. Once you enter the property you know this is a special place, well thought out to provide a relaxing, tropical environment, in a convenient location. She briefed us on the island followed by a tour of the grounds and of our Villa (#6) which was immaculate, very well designed and equipped. Very comfortable bed, complete kitchen, large fresh water dispenser, everything you need and then some. Decks are accessible from each side of the villa which provided a great place to enjoy some downtime among the lush, tropical foliage and, being on the 2nd level, constant ocean breeze. Housekeeping: as good as it gets - the staff is very good and always willing to help, making it a point to ask if there is anything they can do for you. I have no complaints - just wish we could have stayed a few more days. Next time!

Isla Retreats is owned and operated by father and daughter team, Dave and Katy Hochmayr. We began coming to Isla Mujeres in 1989 and it soon became our second home. We love the unique family and cultural ambiance on the island that creates a very comfortable and relaxing place to live and vacation.

We purchased the property where Isla Retreats is located as an empty lot in 2006 and began building in February of 2016. We are very excited to have finally finished the project in May of 2017. The design and vision of Isla Retreats came from Dave - he creatively thought of the most unique details that make this property so exceptional.
