Garden Cottage Perla at Villa Makax. The sargaso free beach is steps away

Cottage Perla is the garden cottage inside the gates of Villa Makax, a beachfront Mexican Villa with a soothing salt water heated pool. Once inside the gated and walled enchanted villa, you’ll be in a world of your own choosing. The beach is steps away.

Villa Makax is located on the west side of Isla Mujeres overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean with beautiful views of sunsets and the twinkling lights of Cancun in the distance. There are restaurants and beach clubs within walking distance and the Turtle preserve is a short walk south down our beach. Our guests can be picked up for their Isla Mujeres water tours at our private dock on the laguna side.

Villa Makax's four cottages are very cozy and tastefully decorated. Each cottage has a king sized bed, seating area, smart TV, fully equipped kitchenette, refrigerator, full bathroom with shower, air conditioning and ceiling fans. The garden Cottage Perla has a private screened porch as well as a large front porch patio - great areas for reading and chilling!

My husband and i enjoyed this property it has 4 bungalows so its a low key island vibe and not the party scene .the owners were there and they were awesome. There was a few animals around and that was fun.we were also a mile away from Dolphin Discovery park which was a blast

Great little rustic hideaway!

Inside pictures of the place were very accurate - just wish we knew that we had no view of the ocean. We did love using the pool & the quiet beach! Had a great stay there!!

Beautiful Getaway at Villa Makax

This was our second time staying at Villa Makax and we loved it even more than the first time visting there. Everything is clean, easy to navigate as far as check in and the location is gorgeous. We had a chance to meet the owners on this visit and enjoyed them very much. We will be back!

What a Gem

Our 8 day stay was outstanding. Our host Steve was genuine and helpful. If you looking for quiet beach front this is the place. The heated pool was perfect. Several local places within walking distance for dining. Wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

Fantastic little villa

Stayed 5 days at villa makax, it was a relaxing vacation with a beautiful view. Steve and Lindell are just a hoot, with great stories.

I’ll Makax is a little oasis. We loved our stay and will definitely be back!!!

The property is rustic and quiet. We stayed in Casita Perla, which is darling. The hosts are so kind and helpful! I would suggest being your own beach towel (theirs are nice, but not very large).

Calm

We found this property to be calm and relaxing. We aren’t into the party life so it was nice to be away from that. It was close to everything that we wanted to do though! We enjoyed the pool and the view that comes with it. Thank you Steve!

Very relaxing vacation

This is the first time we have ever gone this route, we have always done all inclusive This properly is so nice you have everything you need. The bungalow was just as pictured and clean. We went the hole week without a golfcart, but next time we will rent one. The taxi drives are nice and will offer to pick you up after dinner We will be back!

Amazing Amazing Amazing!!!!!!

Our hosts and the staff were top tear. The property was amazing. The bed and pillows were the most comfortable we have ever had in Mexico. The island is only a complement to the property. We were made to feel like we were invited and were assured that we were more than invited to come again. Anyone shopping need know what makes them happy on vacation so that they choose accordingly. We will certainly return!!!

Short holiday in Isla Mujeres

Wonderful, removed from the madness of El Centro. A quiet oasis. We loved our stay here. A few minor things. Hammock in picture isn’t there. I was looking forward to it! Wi-Fi is spotty. The shower flow isn’t very strong and the hot water takes awhile. Like I said, minor. Steve, the owner, is very helpful with suggestions and Juan, the caretaker, is always there to take care of whatever. We loved sitting on the beach, watching the pelicans dive and the sunsets. A few restaurants within walking distance that are good but other than those, you need a golf cart or taxi to get around.

Idyllic getaway

The draw for us was the private beach, and being away from the busy town (Villa Makax is about 1/2 from town via golf cart, heading towards Punta Sur). Loads of beach clubs, Garrafon National Park, dining on the lagoon, quiet at night - a perfect location. We were able to snorkel off the beach (bring your own gear so you can do this anywhere) and found lots of fish (under dock pilings, hiding from the pelicans!) and even a small stingray further away. Definitely an 'island time' property, don't expect perfection, be grateful for all the special characteristics - attractive rooms, comfy bed, clean, outside seating area. Cottages near the pool have an ocean view, and are just steps from the sand. We stayed in Perla - nearer the road, but still nice. Warm pool, beautiful seating area, with a sort of bar area where former guests had left unused alcohol. Note that you can't purchase alcohol on the island after 5pm on a Sunday. Steve and Lindell were very warm and accommodating. The maintenance staff were super friendly, as were their two puppies and rabbit. The other highlight was Chico - the property dog, he was my shadow, and very welcome. Bring shampoo.

Anniversary celebration

Check in process was smooth. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Location and private beach for cottages was amazing. Staying 10 days would have liked cleaning service and linen change every couple of days as being on the beach a lot you drag in sand but besides this our vacation was perfect!

Beautiful and Quiet, What more do you need?

Villa Makax is an amazing piece of property located on a very nice stretch of beach in Isla Mujeres facing Cancun. The pool is the perfect size to relax in and it is crystal clear. The compound and casa's are super clean and have everything you need to enjoy just a few days or an extended vacation. The beach is very quiet, you can sit in private beach chairs and watch the boats sail by down the coastline. Steve and Lindell are wonderful people who have created a very special spot. A wonderful peace of paradise to relax and meet new friends. We will definitely return to this amazing property.

Beautiful, tranquil and welcoming

Our 5th visit to Villa Makax. As always we were delighted by our welcome and settled into our easy routine of beach walks with Lassie, book reading under the palapa, swims (including in the new pool) and watching sunsets. We look forward to our return.

Beautiful and relaxing!

My husband and I stayed at Villa Makax Casita Perla over the Christmas holiday 2017. It was wonderful. Having our own Casita just steps away from a private beach that is great for swimming and just relaxing, but if you prefer the pool is awesome as well. The restaurant just the beach was open Christmas day for eats. The owners, Steve and Lindell are wonderful hosts. Their support staff, Juan and he wife are quite awesome as well. They will do shopping and errands as they had our place stocked with some beer and Kahlua. The puppies Lassie and Bella made it feel like home as well. We rented a golf cart for 10 days and that just made it perfect! Wouldn't trade a minute of our time at Villa Makax and Isla Mujeres!

A return visit that delighted us.

This was our third stay at Villa Makax. We have stayed in Palapa Sam, Palapa Lee and Casita Perla. We were so happy to arrive, late in the evening, to a warm greeting from Juan, the caretaker, Lassie the wonder dog and all as laid-back but perfectly organized as we have come to expect. Steve and Lindell, as always, were perfect hosts. Juan's son arranged for a great golf cart to be delivered to us the morning after our arrival. Excellent quality and service. Once settled in we read under the private, beach-front palapa, had dog walks to the turtle sanctuary, swam in the quiet waters, paddle-boarded, watched sunsets and now and again ventured off the property for groceries, sight-seeing and occasionally margaritas at the Soggy Peso. Looking so forward to next year.

We started our adventure here in 1972 and have continued to love our little piece of paradise for all these years. This guest house was built for our "MOM" Pearl. "Casita Perla" is named for her.Steve and Lindell, the owners of Villa Makax are from Wrightsville Beach, NC. They arrived here in 1972, and fell in love with Isla Mujeres. In 1975 they purchased an unfinished house on Sac Bajo and over the last 45 years, their love for Mexico and particularly Isla, is shown through the manner in which they carved out this piece of paradise.

Every stone, every block, every tile was placed with care and love for the land. As pioneers of the North American community on the island, they have experienced and participated in the tremendous growth and prosperity of the community. The depth of their combined love for Mexico and Isla Mujeres is reflected in all corners and crevices of the cottages.
Steve and Lindell are best known on Isla for their dedicated work with the challenged children of the island. Commonly known as The Little Yellow School House, Amor a la Niñez (Love of the childhood) was established in 1998 by local women in a small 6 by 8 foot classroom. The school is supported by donations only, there is no cost to the families.
