Oasis in the heart of the city

This hotel was incredible. The room was spacious, the beds were really comfortable, the staff were so friendly, the grounds were beautiful & relaxing and the breakfast was wonderful.

An amazing place to stay. Right in Ponta Delgada, coukd walk everywhere easily, but also a quiet oasis. The backyard pool and lounge area was so relaxing. The breakfasts were fantastic. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Fantastic property! We loved our 8 day stay at Casa do Contador - the daily breakfast basket was a highlight. Communication with staff via WhatsApp & face to face was excellent. Everything you need is within walking distance.

It is a beautiful place to stay. The town proper is within walking distance. Easy to navigate and located in the middle of town. You'll enjoy the daily breakfast, especially if you're into organic and local foods. Not to mention the front desk staff are very friendly and helpful in spite of their limited availability within the facility. The only downside was the construction noise.

Second time around

We stayed here previously in a suite which was not available on this trip. We had a studio which was nice, but on top floor If I was even 5 years younger it would have been fine. Helpful with parking our rental. There is some free parking close by but it is by luck until 5 pm. Costs €4 to park over 24 hours, which isn’t bad. Lots of great restaurants close by.

This old kindergarten still retains its charm, and the renovation to small apartments is pretty great. The building is well maintained, clean & well equipped. In an area easy to walk to the centre, on a one way street in the old town, driving can be a bit hairy, we were lucky to find parking mostly nearby. The garden & pool area was undergoing renovation, so unfortunately unusable at the time we were there. Staff are great, friendly & helpful.

No laundry facilities available

Overall a good stay, the breakfast basket was amazing and fresh every morning. Not the best area for parking but there is street parking you can find. We found a spot every day and never had to walk more than a block or two. The only issue I had was that the hotel listing on hotels.com clearly states there is laundry available and there is not. We even checked with the front desk. This caused a snafu in our packing and made us have to spend a half day of our vacation finding a laundry mat to wash our clothes. Other than that the property was great

We booked one of the smaller suites and it was clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our time here. The balcony overlooked the courtyard in the back, and the kitchen had pretty much everything you would need to cook a basic meal. Most units appear to require stairs to access. There are also cats that live on site, and in our unit they were able to jump onto the balcony (we enjoyed this). In the mornings, an excellent breakfast basket was delivered to our door (bread, fruits, eggs, yogurt, milk, juice, granola, etc). In addition, there was a good espresso maker in the lobby. The place is walking distance from downtown locations - perhaps 10-15 minutes from the water front. Parking is a bit of a challenge, although the hotel provided a map of the surrounding streets where there was free and paid parking available. Finding a space may require some driving around, although we found spots were easier to come by in the evenings. If using a paid spot, it is possible to feed the meter after hours and have the payment carry over until the morning. We had a slight issue on our last day where the next days guests were able to enter our room prior to us checking out (apparently they had the same code and figured they would check if the room might be ready early). This may be an area for improvement (perhaps cycle room door codes?). Otherwise a fantastic stay and would highly recommend.

Great stay! Spacious suite and a lovely basket of breakfast supplies was delivered in the am. Quiet, ocean views, close to town, and the pool was an added bonus for the kids. Would recommend.

Beautiful historic building, great location where you can walk to everything. Easy to get in the main door and the suite. Nice amenities including the breakfast which was such a spread it was almost too much. Nice pool and outdoor area. Overall really nice!

We liked the Casa da Contador very much. It’s an old school - an amazing building. We had a T1 suite which had a door separating a generous sized bed and bath from the kitchen/dining sofa room. Good sized closet. I am rating 4 stars due to a tiny bathroom that was difficult to maneuver and it being 41/2 flights up to the 2nd floor. Parking is easy enough to not be an issue. Breakfast was okay and nice to have.
