Vakna till soluppgången på Ocean

Njut av alla tre säsonger, Vår- och sommar och ro i höst. Central värme och öppen spis kommer att hålla dig Toasty i denna traditionella 1891shingle-stil stuga sitter på en bluff med havsutsikt från alla rum. Detta kommer att få dig att känna som om du stega bakåt i tiden till hur det brukade vara.

Sov med ljudet av vågorna. Vakna upp till soluppgången och njuta av frukosten på den stora verandan. Inget att se, men vatten, öar och båtar, både arbetar och segel. Tillbaka för natten, koka upp lite hummer från lokala fiskare, njuta av måltiden i fullt utrustade matsal (hummer haklappar ingår) njuta av solnedgången över Mt Washington och komma in från den svala nattluften för att läsa vid elden i den öppna spisen. Njut av spel av scrabble eller kort, njuta av utmaningen av ett pussel. Sedan tillbaka till sängen till ljudet av vågorna. Det är en bra dag på Bailey Island.

Completely Brilliant

Throughly enjoyed a week at this total BI gem. immaculately clean, tastefully furnished, and a completely wonderful location. Picturesque, historic cottage by the sea

We felt very fortunate to find this place on Bailey Island—130-year-old cottage that has been in the owner’s family for 5 generations and was built by her great grandfather. The view from the front porch of ocean was unparalleled, and the island is real with unpretentious residents, many of whom are in the lobster business. We had a perfect week celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and highly recommend it to others who like a low key, chill vibe. Gay was a welcoming, helpful host.

De Hart Cottage

This property has one of the most spectacular water views in Maine - Sunrises in the morning and sunsets over the Cove. The cottage is clean and cozy. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay.

Lovely!

The house is completely charming and is in a perfect location. Ocean views and breezes from every room, glorious sunrises and sunsets from Inside and out and Gay has done a terrific job of keeping the house immaculate. Also, the fresh lobsters Gay arranged to have delivered were a real treat.

Reprieve by the Waves

We had a lovely week and a much needed reprieve on Bailey Island. Gay was very responsive and coordinated a local fisherman to deliver lobster to the house! (Best to plan and reach out to Gay 48 hours in advanced from when you'd want the lobster). The home was charming and cozy especially with the fireplace. We spent every morning on the large porch overlooking the sea with our coffee and breakfast. We went kayaking, and hiked down to the Giant Steps. For a classic beach experience, Gay suggested going to Popham Beach (50 minutes drive from the home). We also ate at Cook's several times and got ice-cream at Island Candy Company. Sunsets at Lookout Point are highly recommended (15 minute drive from the house), but we also caught some beautiful sunsets across the street from the house. Every night we star gazed and were lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. Thanks so much Gay for sharing your home!

A true Maine treasure

As we wrote to Gay in the journal in the cottage before leaving, what an extraordinary three weeks our family spent at this wonderful, historic, Maine cottage. It is so comforting to know that places like this still exist on earth. The cottage is perfect, stepping back in time, and we hope it never changes. But at the same time it also includes the modern amenities, including very fast WIFI and modern front-loading washer and dryer. The history, and generations of happiness Gay’s wonderful family has enjoyed at this special place seeps through the original floorboards and walls of this special place - we cannot thank you enough for sharing it with our family (2 small children, mom and dad, and grandparents). Gay is such a wonderful, gracious, and extremely responsive host, and was so welcoming - it was truly a pleasure meeting you and having the opportunity to watch you launch your sailboat. If not enough, Gay also went to the trouble to have one of the local fisherman deliver fresh lobsters right to the doorstep of the cottage - we took advantage of this local perk several times - and Gay even gave us authentic pointers from a native on how to properly steam lobsters the Maine way. Our family's days were packed with exploring beautiful Bailey Island, from the cribstone bridge, Giant’s Stairs, Abner Point, Lands End, striper fishing with captain Emily, and a schooner trip on the Schooner Alert, Cedar Beach and on the property, croquet and bocce ball in the wonderful yard, and dinners and fires in the pit overlooking the rocky Maine coast. We also took several day trips to popular southern coastal Maine sites, all within less than an hour from Bailey Island. What a place, what an experience - we cannot wait to come back! If Covid still has us on lockdown next year, book us for three more weeks!

A good day on Bailey Island

The property is an 1891 cottage and much of it's original charm is intact. All three bedrooms are nice sized and the full baths are a welcomed addition to the cottage. The walls are a pretty much original boards that allow you to feel like you're back in time. Kitchen is functional for two people and a well behaved dog. As it sits high on the bluff the view from upstairs is beautiful. The sounds of the waves are soothing in the early morning and while going to sleep. And don't forget to wake up for at least one sunrise....(You can always go back to sleep), it's worth getting up to see. I'm used to renting in remote areas and was nervous about neighbors but it's very quiet and the next door neighbors are very respectful of your privacy. We brought our own stadium chairs but the Adirondack chairs provided were perfect for the porch which we spent most of our time sitting, eating and drinking on.... The rocky coastline in the area precludes a traditional beach but there are plenty of other things to do besides sitting on a beach. We chose to walk all of the trails on and around the islands ( there are several) which give you a different perspective of the area and great views. For a small area I was surprised that there were a few good places within short distance to eat. Check in was easy, Gay met us here and the minimalist instructions were all that was necessary as she emails you with much of it prior to checking in.... If you choose this little gem please be gentle as she's almost 128 years old and much of the originality remains.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed....

This place was amazing. Well appointed. Had everything possible. The fire pit and fire place inside where amazing. The rooms and bed where clean and comfortable. The owner was super nice. It is a absolute powerful place to come and relax and unwind....The waves pou d the rocks below making you fall asleep at night right outside your bedroom windows....The kitchen has everything you need to make any type of meal. The yard is beautiful for outside games or for a well behaved dog to run around. Mackerel cove is right across the street. We rented a kayak and used it for fishing and sightseeing in makeral cove all week. Absolute stunning area. Restaurants in the area where fabulous. Lobsters to buy fresh from local markets where amazing. Downtown Brunswick is 20 min away on a rainy day if you want to go bowling or something different. Picnic bench and chairs by fire pit outside is beautiful. Collect wood on beach below. For firewood if you want like me and my son did together ... what a fabulous vacation we had.. Then only bad thing about the place is we had to pack up and leave.....The owner is great to work with and is very nice. I spent 2 hours cleaning the place as I knew the owners family where coming into use it for the labor day holiday....I believe in leaving my rentals super clean for the next person before I vacate such a beautiful place...Thank you gay for the use of your lovely maine house..Its absolutely spectacular !!!!

A delightful week

This classic summer place was ideal for both quiet relaxation and festive occasions, both of which we experienced. We had lots of relatives and friends converge for a 50th wedding anniversary party at the nearby Library Hall at the beginning of the week, followed by some quiet days with just a few elders still around at the end. The house is a gem and a throwback to older times, while still having modern amenities. But the house still retains its origins, and has graciousness and appeal in both setting and appearance, with lots of old photos that enhance the experience.

Amazing

If there were a way to give Gay's property (and our experience there) more than five stars we absolutely would! She could not have been more responsive or helpful to us in planning our trip. We had everything we could possibly have needed and more in that precious, cozy cottage, and the view from the porch is indescribable!!! We will most definitely be back!!!!

Such a classic cottage that has modern amenities but the old time feel of yesteryear

The view is amazing, the cottage is well maintained. Sleeping to the sounds of waves crashing on shore has to be one of the best sleep aids ever! Always a breeze.

Best Vacation Rental

The cottage is lovely and very comfortably furnished. The view are spectacular from every window in the cottage. One of the best vacations ever and we will continue to return every year. What a wonderful stay our family had at the De Hart cottage on Bailey Island. If you haven’t experienced staying at an authentic Maine oceanfront cottage, you’re missing out. This cottage is in an ideal elevated location with spectacular easterly ocean views. The sunrises and moonrises were unforgettable and the large yard with outdoor patio and fireplace was perfect for cooking up yummy lobster dinners. We were so impressed with the sights and sounds from the front porch and most every room in the house. The owner’s efforts to assure our stay was easy and pleasant were much appreciated. Thank you to the De Hart family for sharing your cottage with us so our family could create our own special Bailey Island memories.

Make lasting memories.

Don't miss this one. A dream come true. Big enough for the entire family yet plenty of privacy. Everything you need is provided. Just bring food and wine Large yard with great BBQ area. The view from the porch will astound you. Bring a couple of cameras. The owners are wonderful and will not bother you. We would definitely rent from them again. We never left the island and seldom left the house. However, there are very good places to eat on the island. It is a quiet place but there is plenty to keep you busy!

Amazing !

I dream of sitting on the porch again!

We loved our stay at this cottage! The front porch gives a dreamy view of the ocean and the ever-changing tides. We had a visit from a bald eagle thaet came and fished from a rock one afternoon. Two spaceous bathrooms made a stay with 6 friends comfortable. It is cozy and well equipped' though you do need to bring your own linens. The location of the cottage is excellent - a short walk or drive to good seafood restaurant and well as a number of nice small local places. Close to Lands End and Giant Staircase, both exceptional places to walk and "sea gaze". This place is great for a peaceful rest & enjoying the beautiful nature around it! Hosts are wonderful folk who are attentive to any questions or needs. We plan to come back!

Wow!

This home offered us the chance to go back in time to enjoy life before gaming systems, TV, internet and cell phones. We read books, enjoyed watching the lobstermen from our back porch, swam, explored tidepools and watched the fireflies. Our children experienced a vacation where time slowed down -- and they found a way to make their own fun. At the same time, they came to know each other, and their grandparents in a whole new way. Everything about this vacation was perfect -- and well described by the owners. We felt blessed to stay in this historical home and look forward to staying there for many years to come!

MOST GRAND VIEW!

My sister, best friend and I stayed at Dehart cottage on Bailey Island Sept. 14 - 18 2009. We enjoyed our stay. The most spectacular ocean view we have ever seen. It doesn't get any better for the surf lover than the front porch of this antique cottage and the open windows with the sound of the waves at night. I was moved to tears by the beauty of the sunrise from master bedroom. Weather beautiful, but cool, for us "Alabama girls". Once in a lifetime trip we all dreamed of taking. We packed a lot into this trip...saw six lighthouses...were awestruck at the beauty of Pemaquid Point...also visited Boothbay Harbor, Kennebunkport, Cape Neddick....enjoyed little cafe in Brunswick (actually met a retired MD who taught at UAB medical school in Birmingham, Al). Some of our best memories were the time spent on Bailey Island. Thanks for sharing your home with us. Clean Quiet, and Dark! Would recommend for those wanting a trip back in time. You could almost feel the memories and hear the laughter of days gone by. Every day was truely a "great day on Bailey Island"! God Bless You! Cindy, Sandy & Annette

Just back from a week at this fantastic house. We couldn't have asked for more. Sitting on the front porch with our morning coffee, watching the lobstermen working right in front of you, listening to the waves at night...It was wonderful. The house has everything you could want and is suitable for families, singles, or the silver haired set. I could feel the years worth of stress start to drain away as soon as I pulled into the driveway. Five of us used it as a Girls Getaway.

Charming Cottage - our best vacation yet!

Our best vacation yet! We loved relaxing at the cottage, having coffee on the porch above the ocean, falling asleep in the cozy bedroom upstairs to the sound of the waves, sitting by the fireplace at night with classical music on the radio combined wtih the sound of the surf. We explored Land's End and the Giant Stairs on Bailey Island, explored the tidepools off the cottage at low tide, drove to beautiful Pemaquid Point Lighthouse up the coast a bit, and drove to Camden to hike and shop, as well as sightsee in the quaint towns along the way. There is so much to do and see in the area - we'll have to come back for one of the boat trips. We made all our evening meals at the cottage as well as breakfast, and got picnic food at Shaw's Grocery or Wild Oats Bakery and Cafe in Brunswick (highly recommended). The cottage has about everything you would need, from binoculars to a hair dryer, radio and weather radio, phone (local calls only), coffee maker and filters and dishes for six, plenty of cooking pots, a washer and dryer, and books about the island. It is decorated with old sailing photos, photos of some of the orignal family members who built the cottage, and paintings of local scenes. We will be back!
