A lovely lodge on a private estate surrounded by woodland, with facilities in Newton Stewart just a over a mile away.. All on the Ground Floor:

Please note: There is a river in the grounds, 200 yards away.. Situated on the fabulous Machermore Castle Estate with the River Cree winding through, West Lodge is a semi-detached property, ideal for a family or groups of friends looking for a break in the beautiful Galloway countryside. The town of Newton Stewart is only a mile away with shops, restaurants and cafés, and there are many other towns within easy reach, such as Castle Douglas, the food town, Gatehouse of Fleet, and Kirkcudbright. Gatehouse of Fleet offers a wider range of places where you an eat and drink, and there are many attractions in and around the town including the Mill on the Fleet Visitor Centre and Cardoness Castle. Kirkcudbright, known as ‘the artists’ town’, attracts visitors throughout the year drawn by the harbour, the historic high street and the diverse range of annual events and visitor attractions. The popular programme of summer festivities culminates with the spectacular Tattoo, an event not to be missed.

West Lodge is situated at the gateway to The Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s largest forest park with three hundred square miles of wild beauty waiting to be explored. The park boasts tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, lochs and ancient woodland and a huge diversity of wildlife including red and roe deer, wild goats and many birds of prey.

Might not be suitable for all dogsThe lodge is in a great location and itâ€™s really peaceful,

Might not be suitable for all dogsThe lodge is in a great location and itâ€™s really peaceful, but the shared garden wouldnâ€™t be ideal if you have a dog who is reactive. The garden is not fully enclosed so if you have a runner they would also need to be kept on a lead. My dog is neither but she is nosey so she always wanted to walk around the outside of the other lodges and she knew how to get to the river so she had to be kept on a lead.There are a few cosmetic updates needed in the lodge (poorly mitred unpainted skirting board in the bathroom that falls off, missing guttering which needs repairing) but that didnâ€™t particularly bother me as it was clean and spacious. Ideal base for a group/family.
