This little town is spread across rolling countryside and is composed of many old farmsteads, traditional workmen's cottages and two churches. Penruddock can trace its history back to Celtic times, the name being derived from 'Pen', a Celtic word for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh and referring to the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. The popular town of Keswick is close by, boasting numerous shops and restaurants, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Century Theatre, a cinema and a beautiful lake. Penruddock itself offers easy access to the surrounding Cumbrian countryside and the southern Lakes, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall are all within easy driving distance.
