Beautiful House in Bideford on Peaceful Street
Summary:
This beautiful, double-fronted Georgian house is tucked away on a peaceful no-through street in the old quarter of Bideford. Recently renovated, the house still retains many original features from sash windows to cast iron fireplaces. The windows benefit from having an additional glaze, offering extra protection against any outside noise and draft. The cottage comfortably sleeps 6 guests with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a separate WC. You will also find a well-equipped kitchen. Dogs welcome!
The Space:
This beautiful Grade II Listed home offers the perfect blend of period charm and modern comfort, set in a prime location just a short stroll from the town centre. With elevated views of the river at the end of the road and a spacious courtyard garden, this unique property is ideal for relaxing breaks by the Devonshire coastâjust a 10-minute drive from the beach.
Inside, the house has been finished to a high standard, with thoughtful, stylish touches throughout. Wooden panelling lines the entrance hall, leading to a dining room with parquet flooring and an elegant atmosphere. Here youâll find a beautiful dining area with six comfortable wooden chairs, tasteful dining ware, draping linen curtains, and curated artwork. The dining table also serves well as a dedicated workspace, offering a quiet and comfortable spot for remote working or catching up on emails.
The spacious living room is a real delight, featuring exposed Scandi-style floorboards, a tranquil blue-green coastal-inspired colour palette, and a working cast iron fireplace. It now includes a large L-shaped sofa and an armchair, offering plenty of space for up to six people to unwind in comfortâwhether you're enjoying a film night on the 4K smart TV or sharing a bottle of wine by the fire.
Next door, the light-filled kitchen has everything you need to cook up hearty meals, including a range cooker, Nespresso coffee machine, Montpellier dishwasher, and now a dining table with stools, making it easy to seat up to five people for casual meals or breakfasts. A newly added mirror reflects natural light around the room, creating a brighter, more open feel. A separate utility room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer for added convenience.
Upstairs, the property comfortably sleeps six guests across three bedrooms: two charming double rooms and one twin room with two antique single beds (which can be pushed together to form another double). Each bedroom is thoughtfully furnished, now including chest of drawers in every room. The smaller bedroom also benefits from added hanging space in the cupboard and handy hooks behind the door. For added comfort and convenience, the twin and small bedrooms are also now equipped with bedside charging blocks, offering both plug sockets and USB ports for charging phones or other devices.
The shared family bathroom has been maintained to a high standard and features both a shower and bath unit. An additional WC is located downstairs.
Outside, the spacious courtyard garden is a glorious spot for sunny daysâperfect for long lunches around the outdoor dining table or BBQ feasts using the large gas grill (The BBQ is available for use from April to October). Thereâs also a dedicated surfboard rack with complementary foam boards for those heading to the beach.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome with a fee of ÂŁ20 per dog (max two), provided they are kept off soft furnishings and out of bedrooms due to a serious allergy. Unfortunately, cats are not allowed.
This one-of-a-kind period home is full of character and comfortâa perfect base to explore the charm and natural beauty of the Devonshire coast.

Guests will have access to the entire property.
The Neighborhood:
Bideford is a pretty town on the North Devon coast with a fascinating history. There are a number of great places to stop and take in the river views, plus there are great pubs, cafes, and fish & chip shops that line The Quay. There is a beautifully landscaped town park at its centre, Victoria Park, which is home to a fabulous outdoor playing area for young children that includes a paddle pool (summer only). A number of high street and independent shops can be found on three main town streets: High Street, Mill Street and Grenville Street. The Burton Gallery has a growing national reputation as a place to see beautiful art and photography. The house is in walking distance to many of the town's best eateries. For good dining, we would recommend The Italian Kitchen, Number Eight, The Mariners or Mill Street Brasserie.
The town straddles both banks of the River Torridge, linked by the old bridge, a sight to behold in itself. On the East-the-Water side, on the far bank, you can pick up the Tarka Trail which is a popular walking and cycling route snaking for nearly 100 miles around the North Devon region. Bideford is 2 miles upstream from the Atlantic coast at Westward Ho!, while Appledore and Instow is another lovely spot for those in search of sunny pints and fine food.
Westward Ho! is one of the best in North Devon, running parallel to a large nature reserve and golf course. It's a brilliant place to enjoy water sports such as surfing, swimming, paddle boarding and kite surfing - there are also places to hire kit. If you love wild beaches, the coastline heading westwards to Hartland has some great lesser known beaches like Abbotsham Cliffs, Brownsham Beach and Hartland Quay â these are more for walkers than bathers however. For more sandy beaches head 15 miles around Bideford Bay to Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe - these are some of the UK's best beaches especially for surfing and all in easy reach from the property.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Devon, a vehicle is recommended for getting the most out of your time here. There are both paid car parks as well as free on-street parking available nearby. Whilst you can stop right outside the house to load/unload, guests should be aware that there are a few sets of moderate stairs in between parking spaces and the house.
That said, Bideford has some great public transport links to Ilfracombe and Barnstaple and you can catch a bus close to the house. From Barnstaple, a direct train will take you to Exeter St Davids where there are regular trains to London Paddington, Bristol and Cornwall.
Other Things to Note:
You can easily load and unload luggage straight to front door however due to the fact we are on a pedestrian only street, there isnât any on-street parking with the house. The nearest Long Stay car park is just 6 mins walk away and you can buy a weeks stay there for ÂŁ22. There are also some short stay parking bays along the river close to the house.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome with a fee of ÂŁ20/dog (max 2). It is on the condition they are not allowed on the soft furnishings or in the bedrooms (this is due to a serious allergy of the owners). Unfortunately, cats are not allowed.
The BBQ is available for use from April to October.
