Whether you’re planning a family escape, a celebration, or a relaxing break in nature, 24 at St John’s is a welcoming, well-equipped retreat where memories are made.
Step into the heart of the Forest of Dean — a place where time slows, nature takes the lead, and adventure is always just outside your front door. Meander through ancient woodland, hike to breathtaking viewpoints, or cycle shaded trails with birdsong as your soundtrack. From the mythical beauty of Puzzlewood to the inspiring Sculpture Trail and the dramatic views at Symonds Yat Rock, every path tells a story.
After a day of discovery, the choice is yours: settle into a welcoming country pub for a hearty meal crafted from local produce, or return to your cosy cottage where a glowing log burner and bubbling hot tub beneath the stars await. Whether you're here for the adventure, the food, the peace, or all three, this magical corner of the country invites you to find your freedom.
Tucked away in the tranquil heart of the Forest of Dean, you're never too far from adventure or a change of pace. Gloucester is just 35 minutes away, with its historic docks and cathedral, while the elegant spa town of Cheltenham — on the edge of the Cotswolds — is around 45 minutes by car. Head west and you'll reach the Herefordshire border in just 25 minutes at Ross-on-Wye, or travel a little further to explore the charm of Hereford City in under an hour. South Wales is also within easy reach, with Monmouth about 45 minutes away and the stunning Wye Valley and Symonds Yat just 40 minutes from our doorstep. And if the sea calls, pack a picnic and head to the coast — Weston-super-Mare and Porthcawl are your nearest beaches, but our favourite is Newton Beach in Porthcawl. With its sand dunes, sea views, and dog-friendly shoreline all year round, it’s the perfect spot for a windswept wander or a sunny day out with the whole family — four-legged friends included.
