The end of the North Yorkshire Steam Railway is only a short drive away, and Sleights is served by frequent public transportation to and from the adjacent port of Whitby. Whitby, which is located at the mouth of the River Esk, is in a prime location for exploring this stunning region of Yorkshire. It is an eerie village with narrow alleyways and secret passageways, a lovely harbour, secure sandy beaches, and, of course, the abbey, which is accessible via the fabled 199 steps.
