Sundays are popular with a market in the morning, the locals and visitors enjoy a stroll amongst the stalls with a fresh fish and meat van. A variety of small pods are home to local business offering bespoke goods, lovely to spend a few minutes on a sunny day. Amble has a fine selection of shops, cafés and plenty of amenities right on the doorstep.
If you like a walk, Warkworth is a couple of miles and easily reached via a walk along the estuary. With its castle at the top of the hill and little bespoke shops, lovely tea rooms and friendly pubs, this is a lovely place for a lunch or evening meal. Alnwick is a 15-minute drive and home to the famous castle used for some scenes in ‘Downton Abbey’ TV series and Harry Potter films; the cobbled streets and history add to the atmosphere.
Further up the coast are the popular villages of Craster, Beadnell, Bamburgh and Holy Island, which all make a wonderful day trip soaking in the friendly atmosphere, chatting to some of the locals and enjoying some great Northumbrian hospitality.
