For a traditional day on the beach, head to the surf village of Woolacombe (6 miles) where a 3-mile stretch of golden sand presents the perfect opportunity for water sports and family fun. Woolacombe also offers a charming selection of fish and chip takeaways, cafes and shops. Another sun-soaked spot to visit is the pretty Victorian town of Ilfracombe (4 miles) where a bustling harbour offers day trips to the magical Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel.
