Om boendet
400 year old listed Cornish cottage, tastefully modernised with secluded garden.
Set at the end of a row of four and being and the furthest end from the road, Sparrow’s Nest cottage benefits from a more secluded feeling!
The cottage sleeps four (2 adults, 2 children) although light weight adults/teens can of course use the lower bunk if needed!
A high chair and travel cot are available upon request.
Well behaved dogs are welcome upon a pre-booking request with owners paying due care to protect furniture from muddy paws etc. and owners should aim not to leave the dog alone for long periods !
The cottage has a sizable upstairs open plan double bedroom, plenty of draws and hanging space and exposed oak beams. A Velux window adds brightness to this room and the small cottage bedroom window looks out onto a hedge-full of rather busy springtime sparrows!
Downstairs the sitting room benefits from the thick 'cob' walls which keeps it cool in the summer and warm in the autumn. There is plenty comfy seating, a 'Clearview' wood burner can be used for the 'real flame' enthusiasts (basket of logs, sticks, firelighters are provided and more can be purchased from the garage). There are books, dvds and games for both adults and children.
*Please note that there are lowish beams in the tiny area between the sitting room and kitchen, so if you are above average height/ very tall you will need to duck!
The downstairs bedroom has modern grey bunk beds, a small wardrobe and shelves, there is floor space to play with some of the toys provided. Teenagers could occupy this room if they are friends with each other!
As the second bedroom is on a different floor to the main bedroom it may not be suitable for families with very young toddlers.
The bathroom has a bath with over head electric shower, loo and antique style sink, slate floor and pale grey wood paneling.
The kitchen has most of the items one would expect (but not a dish-washer) and has plenty of cupboard space. It has a large fridge, separate under counter freezer and a modern gas cooker. There's a large wooden table with four chairs. It is spacious, bright and airy.
The Sonos speaker with built in Alexa provides music and information on demand!
French doors lead out onto the courtyard garden.
The private garden is a suntrap (when the sun decides to show!) and has two large 'throne' chairs that are most alluring! There is also a picnic table and barbecue. A whirrly type washing line is up a few steps.
With the candle lanterns flickering and the fairy lights twinkling it’s a very enchanting setting for a barbecue on a summer's evening.
There is also a smaller section of garden to the rear of the cottage with bistro table and chairs, this is a nice spot for the later evening sun.
The cottage has an 'artistic' and 'rustic' feel, many say it has a relaxing influence and although modernized many original features remain.
Safe parking is nearly always available on the road adjacent to the cottage, otherwise there's always places to park a tiny bit further down the road (within a 30 second walk).
A small footpath leads up to the cottage garden.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a low section in the cottage where taller than average people will need to watch their heads. There is a dangling sign to avoid bumps! Pre-renovation, this used to be a window and during the renovation/extension became part of the entrance to the kitchen from the sitting room. As the cottage is a listed building the wall was not allowed to be excavated to make it higher. It is generally not a problem and sounds worse than it is but it’s something I feel should be mentioned!
St.Agnes itself is a traditional and charming village, it is still one of those places where everyone says hello to each other and there is thankfully very little crime.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE:
This is an old Cornish cottage with very thick cob walls, it is not centrally heated as this would cause the cob to crumble and collapse, so it is important to be aware that if visiting during the cooler months that you will need to light the wood burner (and Rayburn if you want even more heat! )
Once warm, the cottage is very cosy and I can be on hand to assist with fire lighting instructions and ‘maintaining a fire’ skills if required.
Some logs and coal are provided to get you started and local garages usually have plenty for top ups.
There is also an electric heater for instant heat when needed.

I have lived in the village for decades, it is a wonderful village with lots of small restaurants, pubs and a wine bar and generally everything you need. It really has that ‘village community’ feeling and this is why I have stayed here for so long. I have hosted for over a decade (mainly with another rental platform beginning with A and ending in B and if you care to search you will see nearly 100 reviews with the vast majority being excellent 5 star reviews apart from one which moaned about the sofa being too low.... but they wrote it with AI so it wasn't really a true representation!
I take great pride in ensuring the cottage is very clean, the garden tidy and above all that it is a welcoming place as soon as you step through the door ! Everything for a cup of tea or coffee with biscuits after your long journey awaits and the wood burner is primed to be lit with a flick of a match should it be a dull day.

Vad som gör detta boende unikt
Sparrow’s Nest is unique as it is an old miners cottage, it was one of the first built in the village and was prized by the mine captain as he literally had to step out of the door and onto the railway that took the miners out towards the cliffs to mine for tin. The railway no longer exists but there is evidence all around the village of the mining heritage. Old documents also describe how the women of the lane used to fight amongst themselves, throwing fish and buckets at each other. If the cottage could speak you wouldn’t believe the stories it could tell !
