Boutique Hideaway in the Heart of Scotlandâs Yarrow Valley
The Scullery at Ladhope Farmhouse â A Romantic Countryside Hideaway
Nestled deep in the Yarrow Valley of the Scottish Borders, The Scullery is a beautifully restored one-bedroom retreat set amid rolling hills and ancient woodland. Once the servantsâ wing of an 1850 Victorian farmhouse, it now offers a boutique hideaway designed for comfort, calm, and connection â the perfect place to slow down and immerse yourself in nature.
The Scullery sits at the heart of one of the Duke of Buccleuchâs working farms, part of the Buccleuch estate. Ladhope Farmhouse was rebuilt in 1850 by the 5th Duke of Buccleuch, though records of the farm reach back to the 1600s, giving every stay a sense of timeless history.
Inside, rustic character meets modern comfort. Exposed stone walls and an original lime washed stair well, frame a space filled with vintage furnishings, soft textures, and warm tones. The bedroom features a king-size Victorian bed with a luxury wool mattress and crisp linens â the perfect setting for a cosy, romantic night.
A separate living room, with views up into the hills, invites you to curl up on the sofa with a book, a throw, or a film, while the ensuite bathroom brings modern design and convenience.
The pantry kitchen, though compact, is fully equipped with high-quality appliances, a sleek granite countertop, and vintage touches like Spode china and brass fittings. Whether youâre brewing morning tea or enjoying supper, itâs a space designed for simple pleasures.
Step outside and discover a private courtyard garden. Enclosed by stone walls and chestnut fencing, itâs a peaceful pocket of greenery with space for coffee, reading, or stargazing under dark Borders skies. Just beyond, the Ladhope Burn flows past with its own little waterfall, adding a soothing soundtrack to your stay.

Om vÀrden
Neil Chalk Àr vÀrd

After living and working in London for over 30 years, I moved to Scotland two years ago in search of a quieter, more grounded way of life. The Yarrow Valley, with its rolling hills, rivers, and history, felt instantly like home. Our farmhouse, built in 1850 by the 5th Duke of Buccleuch, has incredible character, and restoring The Scullery â once the heart of the house â into a calming retreat has been a real labour of love.
For me, hosting isnât just about running a holiday let. Travel has been a big part of my life, and I know the best stays arenât only about dĂ©cor or location but how a place makes you feel. Thatâs what I aim to offer at The Scullery: a space where you can slow down, recharge, and feel at ease from the moment you arrive.
When Iâm not hosting, I run a small digital marketing agency, The Snooty Hound, and Iâm also involved with Yarrow Hall, our community village hall where we host yoga classes, book clubs, and local events. I enjoy being part of the community here and helping it thrive.
On a personal note, Iâm happiest outdoors â walking with my dogs, exploring trails, or simply noticing the changing light across the valley. I also love interiors and design, which is reflected in The Scullery. Iâve chosen every detail carefully to create a balance of Victorian heritage and modern calm, so guests feel instantly comfortable.
What I enjoy most about hosting is meeting people from all walks of life. Some come for adventure, others simply for rest, and Iâm always happy to share local tips while respecting your privacy. Welcoming guests to this special corner of Scotland is truly a privilege, and I hope you leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and ready to return.
Warm regards,

Varför vÀrden valde detta boende
We decided it was time for a change. City life had been exciting and rewarding, but we longed for somewhere quieter, closer to nature, and more restorative. Scotland had always held a special appeal for us, and when we first discovered the Yarrow Valley, we knew instantly that this was where we wanted to begin the next chapter of our lives.
The valley is unlike anywhere else weâve experienced. It has a timeless quality â rolling hills that shift colour with the seasons, rivers winding peacefully through fields, and skies so wide and clear you can watch the weather sweep across them. Some days it feels wild and dramatic, others calm and gentle, but it always feels alive. That constant presence of nature is what we enjoy most about being here.
Life in the Yarrow Valley has its own rhythm. Mornings often begin with mist rising off the hills or deer moving quietly through the trees. In summer, evenings glow with long stretches of golden light, while in winter the hush of snow gives way to the warmth of a fire indoors. Each season has its own character, and we never tire of watching the valley transform throughout the year.
What we love most about this area is the balance it offers. It feels peaceful and remote, yet it is full of history, culture, and community. From ancient abbeys and castles to the friendly gatherings at Yarrow Hall, thereâs a welcoming spirit here that makes the valley feel both rooted and alive.
Choosing the Yarrow Valley wasnât just about finding a new home â it was about finding a way of life. This is a place that invites you to slow down, breathe, and savour the simple things. Sharing that with guests, and seeing them discover the same sense of calm and inspiration we did, is what makes hosting here so meaningful to us.

Vad som gör detta boende unikt
The Scullery is more than just a place to stay â itâs a retreat with a story. Part of Ladhope Farmhouse, which was built in 1850 by the 5th Duke of Buccleuch, it was once the working heart of the house where meals were prepared and daily life unfolded. Today, weâve carefully restored it into a boutique vacation let that blends its Victorian heritage with a calm, modern design. Guests often tell us that it feels instantly welcoming â a space that encourages you to relax the moment you step inside.
What makes The Scullery stand out is the attention to detail. We didnât want it to feel like a generic rental; we wanted it to feel personal, thoughtful, and full of character. Every choice â from the textures and colours to the lighting and layout â was made to create a sense of calm and flow. Itâs a place designed for slow mornings, cosy evenings, and everything in between.
The setting adds to its uniqueness. Nestled in the Yarrow Valley, the property is surrounded by rolling hills, walking trails, and endless skies. Yet, despite the peaceful location, itâs within easy reach of the Bordersâ historic abbeys, castles, and charming towns. Guests often say they feel wonderfully tucked away, with the freedom to switch off completely, but never far from places to explore.
We believe The Scullery offers something rare: the comfort of a stylish, carefully curated home combined with the authenticity of a historic building in one of Scotlandâs most beautiful valleys. Itâs a place where you can slow down, reconnect, and leave feeling truly refreshed.
For us, what makes it most special is hearing guests describe how restorative their stay has been. Knowing The Scullery has given someone space to pause, breathe, and create lasting memories is exactly why we chose to share it.
