Två historia hem på egendom som ursprungligen ockuperades av nuvarande ägares otroligt stora, stora, stora farfar på 1780-talet. När hans stora barnbarn Charlotte Hunt gifte sig med George Marshall fick de 600 hektar. De byggde sitt hem här 1853 och kallade det Lansdowne. Marshallen planerade en skogsbyggd fastighet som liknar de som omger Englands stora hem, men efter förlusten av deras Louisiana bomullsplantor efter inbördeskriget, drivs Lansdowne som en fungerande plantage med bomull och majs, får och nötkreatur fram till 1960-talet. Nuvarande ägare är den femte generationen Marshalls att bo på Lansdowne. Deras barn och barnbarn, sjätte och sjunde generationen, besöker för långa helger och helgdagar så ofta som möjligt. Egenskapen är nu 120 hektar fält, betesmarker, dammar och skogar med hög skog med tallar, ekar och magnolior och hem till kolibrier och kukor, vedar, heroner och öron, rödhalsade hökar, Mississippi drakar, pileated woodpeckers, great horned ugglor, kaniner, rävar, rådjur och vilda kalkoner. Två våningar hem med två rymliga sovrum, vardagsrum och matsalar, kök och tvättstuga i ett renoverat 1850-talets tegelberoende som på 1800-talet var hem för kocken, barnsjuksköterskan och butleren samt uteköket och tvätt- och strykrummet. Möblerade med fyra poster dubbelsäng, charmigt järn drottning säng och en enkel Murphy säng. En annan enkelsäng eller luftmadrass eller vikbädd finns på begäran. Två sovrum på andra våningen har en anslutningsdörr, och separata ingångar till rymligt delat rymligt badrum med marmor kaklat duschkabin. Varje sovrum har också en egen ingång från det övre galleriet. WiFi, TV med Roku för Netflix, Amazon och mer. Två täckta gallerier, stor uteplats och vackra grunder med rosor, liljor, azaleor, magnolias och mer. Barn välkomna. Rökning eller husdjur. Great Family Getaway

Wonderful relaxing location. My children enjoyed sitting on the porch and visiting with all the property pets. Very quiet and a quick drive into Downtown Natchez. Perfect for families, we cooked all our meals there. Loved the variety of adult and children's books as well.

Natchez History

We chose to stay in one of the dwellings located behind Lansdowne Antebellum Home. What a treat! We were taken back into time! My nine year old granddaughter would tell you it was wonderful because the owner had very friendly dogs and cats. She and the dog had the best time together! We had a great weekend!

Great Stay with Lots of History

This was a unique and amazing stay. Our girls LOVED playing with the dogs and cats and Marsha was an excellent host. The kitchen could use a deep, thorough cleaning as wells as more dishes and flatware. We loved our stay here and would definitely stay again!

Quirky, Historical, and Amazing.

When planning our trip to Natchez, we chose to stay here primarily because of the property's historical significance. We were not disappointed. The experience was better than we could have imagined. The house is old, that's why we chose it, and because of that there are several quirky things. The steep, narrow stairs were hard on my worn-out knees, but each time I slowly went up the stairs, I thought about the people who worked and lived here in the past. I was fascinated by the large built-in cauldron beside the fireplace in the dining room. Once again, I wondered about the people who worked there and how they used the cauldron. Marsha was great, finding time to give us a tour of the main house even though she had to go out of state unexpectedly. Learning about the house and its history from an ancestor was amazing. We came to Natchez to tour homes and learn history, and here we were, learning the history of the property where we were staying. As I wrote my weekly newspaper column sitting at the dining room table, I used source material from the extensive library in the living room. I felt sad because there were so many books and so little time. The courtyard is beautiful, and we loved the cats, especially Oreo. The grounds are a beautiful place to take a morning walk, with many photo opportunities. Listening to the birds sing and hearing the woodpeckers drumming on the trees in such a beautiful setting was magical. I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for an old home steeped in history.

Comfy and cool…

We had a great visit to Lansdowne. Marsha was cordial and kind. We felt like she was truly interested to know about us and ensure we enjoyed staying at her family home. She was engaging with our daughter who was obsessed with the cats that live there. The vrbo space was full of family history and great furnishings. We will definitely stay there again. Cozy, clean and welcoming

I stayed at the Landsdowne with my husband, his mother and my two sons (ages 8 & 10). I was amazed at the amount of space we had in the house and how clean it was. My mother in law was able to stay in the first floor bedroom which has its own bathroom. My husband, children and I stayed in the 2 bedrooms upstairs which has a beautifully renovated bathroom. The upstairs bedrooms have access to the balcony which was lovely in the mornings, we would also get visited by Oreo the very friendly cat. The boys loved all the space to run and explore on the property and pet Rover the very friendly dog. Marsha our hostess was so friendly, we thoroughly enjoyed visiting her family’s home and learning it’s history. We feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to stay at the Landsdowne and will cherish memories of our time spent there.

Charming and comfortablee

We loved our stay at this historic home. The owner had the lights on and heat going before we got there. It was very peaceful and we slept very well on the comfortable beds. We were extremely grateful to have coffee available as we forgot ours so we bought a container at a nearby store and left it for the next guests. We will definitey visit here again

Natchez Festival

My sons and I were in town for a couple of days for the Natchez Festival. Lansdowne was conveniently located and so roomy for a mom and two teenage boys! Marsha is an excellent hostess with a beautiful property. You cannot beat the price and privacy at any hotel! Loved our stay at Lansdowne!

Nice Little Stay

This place was a treat-like stepping back into history. The complementary tour of the main home was so very nice. Charlotte, our tour guide, was a delight. We had everything we needed there in the house. It was well cooked and quiet inside the house. The grounds were beautiful. The only thing that would have made our stay even better would have been hot water in the downstairs bath.

Weekend Getaway

This is the first time staying at Lansdowne Quarters. We usually stay at a hotel when visiting. No more! This was wonderful! I learned so much just by enjoying everything preserved, esp. photos in the home. I have always wanted to sleep in a canopy bed and FINALLY got my wish!! I accidentally locked myself out the first day and with a quick text, the owners gave me assistance of what to do. I loved sitting on the front porch with Oreo, the cat who welcomes all visitors and sits for a while. We will be back!

Great Weekend Escape With the Family

This one of the coolest properties I have stayed in; with a rich history, architecture and furniture true to the 1850's made for a unique one-of-a-kind experience for our family. The property was clean and very comfortable. So quiet at night, I slept like a baby. We were lucky with the weather that it was clear and cool in the evening to sit on the upstairs porch and view the stars - something we don't get to do in the city. And we enjoyed morning hikes on the property. And I loved the shower - a modern addition to the house that is very relaxing. My only recommendation for this property would be to replace the microwave wit a new one.

Your hosts Marsha Colson and Lisa Baker lived in a second floor apartment in The Quarters during their childhood in the 1950s and 1960s. They now share ownership of the Lansdowne properties with three first cousins. They are shown above in mid nineteenth century style attire as they greet visitors during a Spring Pilgrimage tour.

Lansdowne and its buildings abound in history. The Quarters dates to the mid nineteenth century when it was home to a cook, the children’s nurse and the butler, plus the kitchen and washing and ironing room. The building has been renovated and enlarged several times but still retains the washing kettle, set in a masonry structure next to the fireplace in what is now the dining room.

Vad som gör detta boende unikt

The large adjoining bedrooms on the second floor share a bath with large walk in shower (via separate entrances) and can be reached via a stair from the main floor. Each room also has a private entrance from the second floor gallery. The galleries are great spaces to enjoy morning coffee or tea while listing to the myriad birdsongs, a refreshing drink in the evening or an alfresco meal.
