Birthday treat. Ruined.
Poor communication prior to visit, on arrival there was no one there and no way to access property though electric gate. Had to phone owner to gain access by leaning over gate to operate the gate switch. ,( Good job i am tall ).
Initial inspection found a layer of grease on kettle and coffee machine, washing up brush was old and black around the bristle base and scouring pad was old and worn. Layer of dust under the 2 chairs and under the bed (which had to be accessed by shimmying along bent double as the pitched roof was low). Nowhere to hang clothes.
A washing machine behind a locked door was going twice on two evenings during our stay, with a spin cycle which when ended emitted a beeping noise. This was followed by the smell of damp washing for most of the week's stay.
No information on how to operate any of the electric items (i.e. no indication of the microwave's wattage). No emergency services contact details. Ants in the bathroom. A wet floor in bathroom due to the cistern being cracked (looked like it had been like it for ages). The shower doors were very grubby. Kitchen cupboard doors were a poor fit. Lack of table mats and coasters. On departure, whoever was in the house didn't answer the door so we could hand in the key. Some of the patio decking was loose and rotten.
Suffice to say it was much cleaner when we left than when we arrived.
On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, and the gîte is very close to the
alignements
