The villa is fabulous as is the location and proximity to the beach. As the area is very quiet, a car is needed to get anywhere (walking is not really an option). Upon arrival, we were delighted by the water, eggs and milk in the fridge (very nice welcome). Our extended family very much enjoyed the beach and villa, but not the unexpected added costs especially the shocking electricity bill of 21,000 bahts for three weeks. We had expected the included amount of 4,000 bahts with the rent would be sufficient but was greatly misled. In order for the bill to be 4,000 bahts, we should NOT have used the AC, the dishwasher, the laundry - absolutely ridiculous considering those are the selling features of the villa. And we did not use anything excessive as we practice conservation and turn off everything when we're out of the room or villa.
We learned upon paying the bill that electricity is charged a premium at that location (7baht/kw compared to the regular 4.5baht/kw elsewhere on the island). Considering that we had a few hours of power outage every day for 2 of the 3 weeks we were there, the astounding bill of 21,000 bahts was incredible. Had we known about this added cost, it would have influenced our decision to book and if we still booked, at least we would have expected the added cost. We did not like finding out this surprise bill on our last day there.
The maid service was 2x a week which we though was great but she did not change our bedsheets or towels which seemed like a miss given the price. We had to do that ourselves as well as wash/dry them. She did wash the kitchen, floors and bathrooms. Her English was also poor so it was hard to ask her for anything. She did bring a friend who spoke better English and her friend was great help in renting a car or hiring a taxi service. The taxi service suggested by the owner was unreliable - he did not pick us up when we arrived and we had to make alternative arrangements (not great with seniors and young children tired and waiting).
The beach is lovely, the restaurant next door has great live music on Tuesdays and Sundays (although is a little pricey for Thailand). Koh Samui is fantastic, massages, Chaweng, Lamai, Lipa Noi, Nikkey Beach, Fisherman's Village, etc. Expect Koh Samui to be more expensive than other parts of Thailand. Overall we had a great time and the unfortunate bill shock at the end is something the owner should manage more effectively.
