As other reviews noted, this house is above what looks like an abandoned garage/warehouse, which is a little strange. It's also fairly close to the neighbors. We did enjoy being in Southwest Harbor. The house is close to Bass Harbor Lighthouse, Ship Harbor, Wonderland, Thurston's, etc. Inside, it is just beautiful! It has been renovated in a modern and tasteful way. The kitchen is large and well-stocked. There are 3 bedrooms with plenty of beds. It was nice to have 2 full bathrooms. The huge porch has a beautiful view of the water. We happened to be there during a heat wave, and it was too bad that the house doesn't have A/C. We didn't feel comfortable leaving the windows open while we were out or at night while we slept, because someone on the porch could easily enter the house through an open window (the windows are only a few feet above the porch). It was cool at night, and the living room and kitchen cooled down nicely. But even though we opened the bedroom windows as soon as we got home and then closed them right before we went to sleep, the bedrooms never cooled down and were 82 degrees at night. I was also surprised to see some basic things not in functioning order, considering the price of the house. For example, the living room sliding door had a hole in the screen, 2 of the windows (1 in the kitchen and 1 in the bedroom) wouldn't close from the inside, so someone had to go out to the porch to push them closed, while the person on the inside locked them. The bedroom closest to the living room doesn't have a window to the outside. It has a window to the living room (no glass) and a skylight, but we found that a little strange. Also, while the house felt very new, the beds seemed older. While some of them were comfortable, some of them were extremely squeaky (like the double bed in the back bedroom). I would have expected new mattresses in a beautifully renovated rental. Overall, we had a good stay, but we wouldn't return to this house in the summer due to some of these issues.
