Great location.

Fantastic Folly!

We had an amazing vacation in this spacious home. The location is perfection! Steps to the beach with incredible views! The beach is heavenly and beautiful. We loved the well stocked kitchen for family dinners. The location also lends itself to trips to Charleston. This is an amazing city with so much to offer. A wonderful week where we created many special family memories.

Fantastic Folly!

What a fantastic week we had at this beach house. We loved the location- right on the gorgeous beach. It was perfect weather all week too. We also liked that we could visit Charleston so easily. The home had a well stocked kitchen for family dinners. The home is spacious for a large gathering. We had one minor repair which was fixed immediately. Thanks for helping to create a week full of lovely memories!

A great oceanfront value

While this is not a high end luxury home, it is a great oceanfront value that is pet-friendly. If you need a 6 bedroom home and are coming to the beach to actually spend your time at the beach and want to bring your dog, this place is perfect. The outdoor spaces are great with decent seating, including the covered porches and the sun deck. I heard no complaints about the bedding and the kids loved the bunk bed nook. The house is showing some wear and tear and things like the showers and hot water situation were quirky, but the property is as pictured (aside from some decor and furnishings), and we encountered no surprises. Wifi was spotty so if you are working on vacation have a backup plan. The only downside was the AC struggled to cool the house even at night, so if you are sensitive to that just be aware (two upstairs bedrooms did have portable AC units). Knowing this, we would still stay again and just bring fans!

Great Location

Really enjoyed the location and beach access. Only complaint was the hot water. It ran out pretty quickly and never got very hot at all.

Aloha- A Coastal Getaway

Large enough for a family reunion with multiple decks, grill and dishes/serveware. Direct access to beach for sunrise and daily beach walks to town! What an enjoyable stay! Thank you!!

Many problems with this house

The layout of the house is not suited for groups. The “living room” and dining area that can actually accommodate the number of people in this house is upstairs and it’s extraordinarily hot up there. Rooms are tiny - in the master, my husband and I couldn’t even walk around the bed at the same time. The bathroom is so small in the master as well. we had ants in an upstairs bedroom. Many of the sliding doors don’t work and the ones that do work, the locks don’t work so you have to use a piece of wood to “lock” them. Several lights didn’t work in the kitchen. The ice maker in the fridge didn’t work and the fridge wasn’t very cold. The outdoor shower in the walk way sprayed all over the place. The handle for the hose is all broken and has sharp, pointy edges. The furniture downstairs takes up too much space and everything feels super cramped. I would not recommend this house for any large family gathering or really at all given the maintenance on the house itself clearly hasn’t been kept up. They just assume no one will care because you’re on the beach.

Needs improvement

We visit folly 2x per year. This property needs many improvements! Management company was notified. We read the reviews before visiting and was optimist. Read the other reviews.

The upstairs of this property had big rooms & a wonderful view of the ocean. The downstairs had the same great views & a big kitchen. The bedrooms downstairs were small, not enough room to move around. The bathrooms were small & the toilets werent bolted to the floor. the living room downstairs was also small so we used the upstairs as our family sitting area. .There was a lot of dog hair on the furtniture left over from previous guests & a lot of sand on the floors.

Aloha Fun

Here were the drawbacks to this house- only one coffee maker that worked, one table had a wobbly leg, one kitchen drawer was broken, the outside shower could be improved. Sounds like "rich people" problems, right? The house had some shaggy spots but that's how a beach house should be. We had a couple of "needs" while we were there and Vacasa was fast and very responsive to each request. We had 2 babies and the house worked great for our family situation- great space to be spread out and large enough to come together. The beach access was excellent. We had a great time and would stay there again. I would really give it 4 1/2 stars.

Moderate property that sleeps plenty in a prime location

If 3.5 stars was an option, I'd probably give it that score, but my personal bias leads me to bump it up to 4. The house is not one of the newer ones, so you have to adjust your standards a bit. Lots of bedrooms, not the massive open living areas a more modern house might have. But we've been coming to this exact house since 1992 because we love it. It has been nicely updated since we started coming here, still sleeps a ton of people and has two nice kitchens, but the insulation is lacking (you hear every noise at night) and the furniture is a little rickety (wobbly headboards that hit the wall). For a prime beach location, it's just what we need (although the newer neighboring houses have been built closer to the beach so it limits your views in either direction and the shrubs have been allowed to get somewhat out of control, which limits the direct beach view from the back porch). This was our first time booking through Vacasa, though, and we loved dealing with them. The local Folly Team was A+. We loved dealing with them and would again in a heartbeat.

Great location, smelled like wet dog

I will never stay at a Vacasa rental property again. 90 minutes before we were supposed to check in, I received a call/email stating that there was a maintenance issue with our rental and we could choose to move to another location. The option given was a condo that was not beachfront (we had originally booked a house on the beach.) After 70 MINUTES on the phone, I finally spoke to the manager who moved us to this new location. Once there-the door code did not work, the bed linens were stained and had holes, and the upstairs couch had white dog hair and smelled of wet dog. We had to cover the couch with towels and comforters and well as use perfume to try to mask the smell. We were thoroughly disappointed with the entire experience.

The house overall is a great place to stay. I don't know if the owners are aware of some things that need to be addressed. The four chairs on the upper floor are all in need of having the cushions replaced. They are all torn and in bad shape. Two of the lights under the cabinets in the upper kitchen do not work - very dark in there. The hair dryer does not work. The floor in the bathroom on the first floor is soft like there is a leak that needs to checked. Some of the sockets on the first level are hanging out and need to be secured. This is a great house, but the owners need to do some updating and repairs!

Poorly maintained, dirty, kitchen lacking basics

For the price this was absolutely the worst house I've ever rented. I was looking forward to relaxing on the decks with my adult children, but ALL the chairs were filthy! The windows facing the ocean were covered with dirt and sand, obscuring the view of the ocean. I called Avocet immediately. It was before 5 PM but no one answered. So I left a message. My call was ignored. My family cooks but the kitchens were stocked with exactly no spices, seasonings, or cooking oils. So we had to buy a few and make it work. Then when we cleaned up after a big meal we discovered that there were no extra garbage bags. Not one. So we had to go out and buy those. My son, who lives in NC and visits Folly beach frequently told me that he'd already been burned by Avocet twice. So this is strike three for them. We'll be asking for a full refund!
