VÀlkommen till Westwood, en mycket privat bergsresa ungefÀr en mil utanför Thomas, WV i det historiska omrÄdet Coketon, WV. Ligger en mil ovanför Blackwater Canyon, pÄ tvÄ pluss tunnland, grÀnsar det ocksÄ till den vÀstra Pocahontas-fastigheten, cirka 68 000 tunnland Wild West Va. En mycket privat plats ger estetiken allt nÀr du Àr nÀra Thomas centrum. De 2 1/2 sovrum, 2 fulla badhus rymmer upp till Ätta personer och har ett fantastiskt dÀck med utsikt över "morerna" samt en veranda med utsikt över Snyder Run. Vandring, cykling, lÀngdskidÄkning Àr bara nÄgra av de aktiviteter som finns tillgÀngliga frÄn en av de bÀsta platserna i omrÄdet. Blackwater Canyon Trail ligger lÀngst ner pÄ kullen, gÄ höger till Douglas Falls och vÀnster 3/4 mil in i Thomas. Om du Àr en Mt. Property was maintained beautifully. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Very clean and orderly house. House flies kept appearing, however. Lots of books and games to entertain you. Fully equipped kitchen is a plus. Easy access to Thomas and Davis by car, or Thomas by foot path.The furnace fan motor was so loud the floor vibrated. Eventually noise disappeared. Internet router lost connectivity daily. I texted owner; no reply. Router looks old. Hauling out trash at end of stay was not inconvenient but would have appreciated a heads up beforehand-maybe I missed those instructions. The dumpster at the transfer station at end of street was overflowing with trash bags; the parking lot was dirty, dusty, and dry. This calls out for an alternative method.

Dream Vacation!

Wonderful place. The location is ideal. Walking distance to both the nice little town of Thomas one way down a river path and water falls the other direction. Easy drive to Blackwater Falls and everything else this hiker's paradise has to offer. Would definitely come back here again.

Negative: No A/C. and broken ceiling fan in the bedroom.Dead rat and rat droppings in the kitchen area. Every untencil and dish that was used had to be prewashed. No hot tub or jetted tub, although they are listed in the accommodations.Main bathroom showerhead broke the first night, and we had to buy a new one. Smoke detector was laying on the bedroom nightstand and not usable.Positive: location to the town and waterfalls was great!

Perfect Location

House was clean and comfortable. E-biking the Blackwater Canyon Trail to Hendricks and back was wonderful, the trail is feet from the house. Nearby Douglas Falls is great. Blackwater Falls State Park is just a few miles away. So many other outdoor activities nearby. We picked this destination because my wife began researching her genealogy a few years ago and found that her mother’s family was deeply embedded in the history of Tucker County. She found a story at the library about an ancestor of hers who was lost for five days crossing Backbone Mountain from Sugar Lands to Thomas. This is the national forest area that is adjacent to Westwood (you can see the wind turbines on backbone mountain from the house). If we return, we’d definitely stay here again.

Perfect getaway

This space was the absolute perfect place for our family to get away to and unwind. The location is peaceful and easy to find - and so conveniently located to the shops in Thomas. Having a space that also thoughtfully considers what’s necessary to be “dog friendly” was another huge perk.We absolutely will be back!

Perfect weekend getaway!

The property is close to major attractions but away from town. It's the last house on a dead-end street with only one other home. Note: the neighbors have two off-leash labs that came to the property daily. Be mindful if your dog is also off-leash. I was not concerned they would bite or attack, but they barked a lot when out. It was quiet (when neighbor dogs weren't out) and secluded. The place was nicer than the pictures. The kitchen was stocked (just bring cooking oil or butter). I would stay here again if I were visiting. Bring tissues and soap/toiletries.

Awesome location. Close to town. Yet a nice country view. Place was very clean and on par with what we expected. The only issue is the steps and deck weren't shoveled. Other than that I would highly recommend staying here. A wonderful place!

Family fun

If you're looking for a very cozy and clean place to stay this is it. Very comfortable for six people and the location was amazing. Very much enjoyed our stay and looking forward to staying there again.

Beware!!! Impassable road in snowy conditions

#1 - Nowhere in property description did owner mention the virtual inaccessibility of this property in wintry conditions. Four wheel drive vehicle is the only way to reach the house given the steep winding road. As a result, most of our single free day in the area involved finding a tow truck to wench out of deep snow one of our vehicles. Owner’s negligence further manifested in treacherous snow covered stairs leading to property. At least, they had a flimsy plastic snow shovel available which was used to clear the compacted snow and ice while we awaited the tow truck. (Would have preferred hiking in nearby state parks, but oh well.) #2 - Despite their obligatory $100 cleaning fee, this house was the dirtiest property experienced across decades of renting through VRBO: moldy showers, dust covered heating vents, dust clinging to walls, filthy oven, etc.

Gorgeous location

Westwood property was located in a pristine corner close to the hiking trail which we caught to get to Douglas falls. The property was really clean, spacious, with a well stocked kitchen. It is so close to black water state falls park, Canaan valley resort . We are looking forward to coming back again.

West Virginia Mountains

We went to enjoy fall color in WV. Westwood is a beautiful home. Saw lots of deer and there were many spots around the house to sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. I would love to return to this wonderful place!

Michelle and Rex Phares live in Elkins, WV, about a 40 minute drive from Westwood. We've spent many weekends and holidays at Westwood as have many of our friends.

Varför vÀrden valde detta boende

It's the location. Close to Thomas with all its artsy and antique shops and the Purple Fiddle. Yet Westwood is all about privacy. It's a great place to explore the Cannan Valley and Thomas/Davis area. There's a lot to do here, world class mountain biking, x-country skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, bird watching. The Blackwater Canyon rails to trail is at the bottom of our driveway. There is the Mountain State Brewing Company, Sirrianis Pizza, Hellbenders Burritos and Stumptown Ales all with a 3 mile drive. If your visiting between March and November, by all means, bring your mountain or road bike. December thru March bring your skis or snowboard. There's always something to do.
