Come stay in this unique hexagon-shaped cottage. Shady Lake Hideaway sets atop JAMESTOWN Marina, Lake Cumberland, KY. A convenient 2 MILE drive by road to JAMESTOWN MARINA and Momma JJ's BBQ, live music, boat rentals, fuel and a grocery store. Located 5 minutes across the water is Lake Cumberland STATE DOCK. 4 MILES to the CENTER of TOWN and 2 MILES from LILY CREEK Boat Ramp. With a one-of-a-kind appeal and ideal location, this cottage was built for enjoying time with friends and family...and PET FRIENDS as well.

Shady Lake Hideaway offers quick and easy access to LAKE CUMBERLAND and local and hiking spots. The 60 FOOT DRIVEWAY on the property allows for BOAT PARKING in addition to the main driveway.
All 3 QUEEN BEDROOMS have their own bathroom. Yep! 3 FULL BATHROOMS. An additional sofa bed is located on the lower level.

This hexagon-shaped cottage is truly unique. Lovingly called "the nut house" (as in hexagonal nuts and bolts) by the road's veteran residents, the cottage has an open concept UPPER-level that includes 2 bedrooms with QUEEN beds. Both bedrooms have an attached bathroom. The upper-level bedroom 1 (sleeps 2) has an attached shower. Bedroom 2 (sleeps 2) has an attached shower/tub combo.

The FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN allows for home cooking with all major appliances, cookware, dishes and utensils. The bar height table seats 6-8 people with the expandable leaf found under the table. A live edge breakfast bar seats an additional 2. The upper-level conversation area has board games and a Smart TV with access to the GRILL DECK and outdoor seating/eating area.

The LOWER-level doors open to a welcoming FIRE PIT with Adirondack chair seating where one can roast s'mores, share stories and play a game of corn toss.
The lower-level POOL TABLE, Smart TV, and JBL PartyBox allow for an evening of kick-back and relax after a hard day of play. You will find the Bedroom 3 (sleeps 2) QUEEN, FULL bathroom with shower, sleeper sofa (sleeps 2), and laundry room on the lower-level.

Nestled amongst the tall trees of Kentucky's scenic outdoors, you'll agree after your stay that life is better at the lake!

Spring Break

This was my family’s first VRBO stay and if the majority of owners are like this one, I don’t know how hotels are still in business. -Description was spot on, including where the local convienience store was if you needed dry wood-communication with the owner was above bar. She had a wealth of knowledge and was willing to share. We plan on making many more trips to Cumberland, and when we go. We already know where we will book our stay.

Great Stay

Wonderful stay!!! House was adorable and as described. The house was very clean and well stocked. Loved the ability to regulate the temperature for each room with the mini split units throughout. Suzanne was excellent host and very detailed in her communication. Thank You for a great stay!

New Year’s getaway

We stayed 3 nights over New Year’s and it was the perfect getaway to relax and ring in the new year. The house clean and comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked. The kids really enjoyed the pool table. The owner was very communicative. We had a slight issue with one of the air units and the owner sent someone out right away. The area was gorgeous and just perfect to sit and relax in nature. Besides the pool table, there was a trunk of board games which was nice for us to play games on New Year’s Eve. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back again.

Great place to stay and very roomy

We have stayed here 2 times this year. We love the lay out and the location as it's close to the park, Wolf Creek damn for fishing and restaurants are close as well.very accommodating for there guests!! Will continue staying here

Family fun

This house was perfect for our family. We met our daughter there for a weekend visit while she is at school. We got to bring her doggos to see her and they were just as excited as we were! We had a campfire, went on a hike, played pool, did her laundry and baked goodies for her to take back. I just wish we had a longer stay with her. We will definitely look into booking this house again for our next visit. Suzanne was SO helpful! She answered questions throughout our stay. So kind! Thank you for opening your house to us!

Perfect Place!!

We booked this Vrbo for my sister’s bachelorette party. The house was so beautiful, unique and clean! There was so much space for everyone to be comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. Having 3 bedrooms and 3 full bedrooms gave plenty of privacy. Also, having access to the back yard from downstairs was nice. We loved having a corn hole set available and we played it a lot! The backyard was gorgeous! The hammock was relaxing & there was plenty of seats around the fire pit. We hiked the Baugh Branch Trail - 3.3 miles ending at an overlook of Lake Cumberland. We went to Reel Java for coffee & cookies and Pepe’s for Mexican food & margaritas. I would one thousand percent recommend this house to anyone & I will for sure be staying here again!

Decent, but safety and other issues

Torn between 3 and 4 stars. Decent overall, but some issues. Main problem is the very steep and narrow spiral stairs between levels which is difficult to get up/down, especially for anyone with mobility issues. Metal steps are slippery in socks and only partially covered with non-slip treads; really need ENTIRE surface of EVERY step covered. Outside, the flagstone path to lower level is slanted/steep with loose stones, so again difficult to navigate. They should be re-laid as level steps instead of slanted and glued with epoxy so they don’t wobble. A handrail outside would also add safety. Other issues include completely filthy floors upon arrival, ESPECIALLY downstairs. Wiping up water on kitchen floor first night, paper towel came up black. Only two trash bags provided which isn’t nearly enough for 6 people over 7 days (should have given at least five). Also only two kitchen towels which we had to wash mid-week (please provide 2-4 extras). Only one bathroom has decent vanity counter space, and two bathrooms have tiny 3x3 foot showers with no elbow room. Pool table next to stairs is difficult to maneuver around / get a decent shot. That said, we generally enjoyed our time. Skillet cookies from Reel Java are AMAZING. Also not a bad drive to distilleries in Bardstown (roughly 90 minutes). The random lookout spot mid-way overlooking a valley was really cool. Too bad it rained a lot because of the hurricane remnants; we only got one good day out on the lake.

Perfect Lake Cumberland Vacation Spot

Our trip started off with excellent pro-active communication from the host confirming our stay details, explaining the check-in process and providing suggestions of places to go and things to do while we were there. The home was exactly as advertised, and was in an ideal location (a couple miles from the marina and a few minutes from restaurants and groceries). The host, Suzanne, was extremely communicative throughout our stay and responded immediately to any inquiries that I sent her. Every conceivable detail was thought of to make our stay comfortable and entertaining. We really didn't need to bring anything but ourselves, our clothes and some food. Any other conveniences from home were already there. The beds and linens were very comfortable, and the home was immaculate. The provided fire wood for the fire pit, the family board games, the corn toss and the billiard and foosball tables provided for some high quality family time. Boating on the lake, a burger and shake from Snap's Soda Shop, and a stop at the Rex Family Restaurant in Nancy are must do's. Suzanne was absolutely the best host and provided a perfect family vacation experience on the lake. Trust me, do yourself and your family a favor by booking your next Lake Cumberland stay at the Shady Lake Hideaway house.

Best host/property in a long time

The property is easy to get to and nicely located. It’s in a very quiet neighborhood and the property is well kept. The owner is wonderful to work with. She supplied us with many wonderful suggestions for local food, shopping and recreational opportunities.

Pet-Friendly Lakehouse Getaway

We spent 4 nights in this charming octagon-shaped house conveniently located just a short drive from Jamestown Marina. The house was very clean and cozy. We enjoyed the fire pit area and the wrap-around deck. The group liked playing pool and watching football games on the large TVs. There is ample parking for a truck and large boat. The kitchen was very well stocked and this house is full of cute lake-themed decor. Suzanne was an excellent host and quickly responded to any questions we had. I recommend this house, and we plan to return the next time we visit Lake Cumberland.

Awesome stay at Shady Lake Hideaway

Our stay at the Lake Hideaway could not have been more perfect. We have come to Lake Cumberland many times for Poker Run week. Have even stayed on this road in different houses 4 other times, this was by far the best one. Place was super clean and well thought out with everything you would need. Place is even set up if you happen to fall into bad weather and need to stay in. Plenty of supplied games and activities. Added bonus for us was the second extra-long driveway that I was to back my 40' boat and truck in. Suzanne was great with communication, very responsive and very helpful. Saw this place last year when staying just down the road and glad I booked it right away! Would definitely stay here again. Thanks for having us!

The Best

I've rented a lot of vacation places, but I have to say this was The Best. From the moment we parked, we need was going to be great. The youngest in our group of 4 was my wife at 77. Her 2 sisters and myself all over 80, so having 3 nice bedrooms with their own bathroom was very nice. Also the 3 individual AC units were great because the women don't like it as cool as I do. I can't begin to list all of the amenities but there were more than we used. Some nice restaurants in town, we especially liked Reef Java, and a great pizza from Giovannis. I had a couple of questions and texted Suzanne, the property owner, and she replied immediately. If we get the chance to visit again, we know for sure where we will stay.

Great Place and Wonderful Host. If you are looking for accessible cabin, this is a good one.

We were all impressed with the rental. It was easy to find, based on the directions provided and the pictures on the listing. It was easy to get into, thanks to the clear instructions emailed to us before the stay. The rental was clean, cool when we walked in, and inviting. The outdoor area was nice. We were there for two nights, and all seven of us were comfortable and content. Sleeping was comfortable, and each area having its own individually controlled A/C unit was great. Of particular interest to me was the accessibility of the rental. I am a double amputee in a wheelchair, and any of you who have ever needed a wheelchair accessible vacation rental know the tedious and depressing nature of looking for something that you can get into. The interior of this rental was great.I could get into bed easily. I could get into the bathroom and to the toilet, and although the sink/tub area was tight, I was still able to brush my teeth and take care of sink things. I did not try to use the shower/bath. The deck on the main floor was wide and spacious, and I had no problem maneuvering around on it. There was a small bump up into the main house that I could get with no assistance, but if you have a ramp you travel with then you will be fine. The only area that presented a problem was the short distance from the paved parking lot to the wooden ramp up to the deck. There was a small dip off of the pavement onto about three feet of flagstones, which my front wheels dug into.

Great place to stay!

We have planned a trip for a while before arriving at the cabin. Even though most of our trip had rain, the cabin offered many accommodations that helped us stay inside and cozy! We spent a lot of the time playing games and exploring around the different towns when we could go out. We would 100% recommend this place and maybe come back in the future

Looking for a place to get away from it all, I purchased 🌳Shady Lake Hideaway in June of 2020. Whether my family and I are spending the day tubing, knee boarding, water skiing, fishing, or simply raft floating in the beautiful jade waters of Lake Cumberland, we always enjoy coming back to the cottage to relax, hang by the fire, grill some eats, roast some marshmallows and play a few games before sleeping that deep sleep you get after having a hard day of play.
Being the daughter of an elite Army Ranger, I have had an upbringing that has allowed me to live in different states and countries. No matter where my family and I travel, the simple beauty found amongst nature has always been our most memorable adventures. I believe life is about moments...even the mishaps add to the adventure!

Varför värden valde detta boende

I started water skiing when I was in junior high school and many summers were spent on the waters of Lake Cumberland boating and tubing. I grew up and came back with my own family. I toured Jamestown and this cottage with my husband and children. All of my kids liked this property. When we lived in Germany we also lived in a hexagon shaped house. One-of-a-kind seems to catch our attention. Sometimes life is that simple. There was a bidding war and my youngest son told me what he thought the offer should be so we looked like we meant business. My oldest son clinched the deal by choosing our final counter-offer. All 3 kiddos helped choose the name to describe the property. It has been a family affair from the beginning. Some places just have that good vibe! It's just that simple.

🌳Shady- The shade from Kentucky's surrounding forest is a huge benefit to the property. Past noon, most of the property is covered in shade and this is the reason why it was incorporated into the name of the property.
🌳Lake- Don't be mistaken, I was drawn to Harbor Springs Drive because it is a stone's throw from the Jamestown Marina. The convenience is top-notch. Life is better at the lake.
🌳Hideaway- The way the cottage and the outdoor spaces fit into the land around it, gives the cottage a comfortable and protected feel. Some of the veteran residents of Harbor Springs Drive have said that the cottage has been called "the nut house", as in hexagonal nuts and bolts, and simply the hexagon house. Either way, it's the only house of this shape on the street. It is our hideaway to get away from it all and enjoy our time together.
