20 meter från havet och låga priser, är Mampoo Hill ett mycket speciellt östrandshus. Koppla av från däcken med utsikten och ljudet av det lappande blåvattnet med svagt palmande träd i mellan. Eller snorkla i avskildhet i "bakgård" havet. Och titta på dramatiska solnedgångar från de lyxiga spa- eller loungestolarna på övre eller nedre däck när dagsljuset lyser från träden och Karibiska havet.

Mampoo Hill (designad av den mest kända arkitekten på ön som också gjorde den ikoniska Mongoose Junction) var noggrant utformad för att dra nytta av sin fantastiska, närbelägna havsutsikt - från varje rum. Denna sällsynta, vackra, öppna luftöarhemmet har ett stort luftkonditionerat sovrum med dubbelsäng, king size-säng, queen size-futon soffa, bibliotek, takfläktar, TV och internetuppkoppling medan gästrummet har två enkelsängar (det kan göra upp som en kung), en takfläkt, AC, fjärrstyrd kabel-TV och ett badrum. Amazing Private Paradise by the Caribbean

This beautiful home exceeded our expectations. Awesome open concept home with a private, air conditioned bedroom on both sides of the common areas. Beautiful views and only a few steps from the shore. Clean, well stocked and maintained. 5 stars! Local support staff was awesome and available to address any issues. Highly recommended.

St. John Paradise

The property is right on a rocky/shell beach and excellent snorkeling is 200 yards away. The views are world class. The soothing sounds of the Caribbean are ever present. The home is an architectural wonder and blends into the beautiful Mampoo Hill. Depending on your mood, you could spend all your time at the house or drive 10 minutes to enjoy the great restaurants and bars in Cruz Bay. All of the wonderful sights and beaches on St. John are within 20-30 minutes. Great Place!!!

Paradise

Our stay was amazing. When you walk in it’s open and has many chairs and sitting areas to check out the beach. Beach was beautiful, it is a rocky one so I recommend bringing good shoes in your bags. They provided us with everything included snorkeling gear. The bugs are definitely present, but they were kind enough to provide us with a great bug repellent, make sure to lather up. The iguanas were great company and fun to watch. Everything was so easy to get to, I definitely recommend you renting their jeep, it made the trip so much more convenient and much less pricey than renting at the airport. Everyone I talked to was responsive very quickly and accommodating. The people in general all around were just so kind.

Beautiful House--Amazing Location

We have a great week at Mampoo Hill. The house is incredible. We enjoyed being so close to the beach, loved the hot tub, and made very good use of Candace's Jeep (as an add-on the house rental). We couldn't have been happier. In response to other reviews, we were there for a week from Christmas to New Years and didn't have any issues with mosquitos or other bugs. We were expecting them but never needed to break out the bug spray. The caretakers were responsive to questions and easy to communicate with. The house was well-stocked and comfortable. And the setting on the beach is so peaceful and lovely. We'll be back!

Perfect anniversary property

This is a 2 bedroom property but me and my husband were looking for a special property for our 30th wedding anniversary so did not have any other couples join us. And we nailed it with this one! Everything was perfect for what we were looking for. We rented the jeep and that made it super easy and convenient on arrival aWnd departure. The property was so beautiful and the critters of Mampoo Hill we entertaining to watch. The location is convenient for getting to Cruz Bay (can be to the ferry in 7 minutes) and other nearby beaches. We cooked in a few times and there is plenty of utensils and pots and pans to cook any meal and the grill was in great shape for grilling steaks our first night. We used the hot tub everyday and it was great for mornings and evenings. We had hired a photographer to capture some pictures to remember our special trip and had planned to go to another beach but the property was so beautiful and was so special for us we decided to have them take the photos there on the deck and down by the beach. Can't wait to see how they turned out. We will rebook the property the next time we stay on St John, which hopefully will be sooner rather than later.

What an amazing stay at this hidden treasure!

What can I say that has not been said about this amazing house? The location is incredible. You really are just steps from the water. The house is unlike any place we have stayed at before, Open concept is a whole new meaning. We particularly enjoyed the rain. Being outside but inside at the same time and hearing the rain, the waves and the wind is a relaxation that is hard to find. The bedrooms are wonderful and the bed we slept in was very comfortable. I did love the pillows and now want one for myself. Loved the outdoor shower in the evenings. We watched very little t.v and instead found ourselves sitting on the deck watching natures big screen each evening. The kitchen has everything and the Weber grill they have works perfect and helped me to cook several meals for us. We were there during hurricane season so several places on the island were closed and we did not mind at all. The house feels very secluded but a short drive to town and a great little grocery store called Dolphin where you can get everything you need. The jeep Candace rents is in great shape and is a must if you want to explore. It is also so much easier to pick up and drop off than other rental places. Craig met us at the ferry and showed us to the house and took the time to explain everything to us and Jennifer was always available if we had any questions. If you like a resort stay do not come here. If you want an experience in island living in a serene, comfortable, secluded and totally relaxing stay than there is probably NOT a better place than Mampoo Hill. Thank you Candace for sharing your beautiful house with us and making our vacation such a wonderful experience filled with fantastic memories!

A Wonderful Vacation Spot

We (two of us) spent 8 days at Mampoo Hill—and they were wonderful days even though we had two mornings of 2-hour torrential rain storms. (The rain was much needed and ended a 3-4 month drought on the island.) Our dream in life is to hear the ocean waves from our bedroom. The house is about a 90 second walk from the ocean—so this house fulfills those dreams. We also rented the 4-wheel drive Jeep that is an available as an option with the house. Consequently, we were met at the ferry from St. Thomas by Craig who accompanied us to the house and introduced us to it. This actually made arrival easier than it has been for us during previous trips to St. John when we rented a car in town after we got off the ferry. Craig was very informative about the house, the car, and anything else we asked (where to rent snorkel gear, current restaurant information, etc.). The house is exceptionally well outfitted for renters; there was nothing that we needed that wasn’t there: from beach towels and chairs to good vegetable peelers. As described, the WiFi is easy to use (including when sitting on the chairs on the porches) and the cell phone reception is usually very good. But most importantly of all, the house (described as a “beautiful, open air island home”) has one outdoor deck stretching the whole length of the house on the ocean side plus a second smaller deck, a little lower and closer to beach. “Open air” means that only the bed rooms (at opposite ends of the house) have four walls. The living room and kitchen are covered by a very effective roof but open-to-the-air at the front and back of the building. We loved that too because it was easy and natural to start with our morning coffee under the roof when it was raining or under the sky when it wasn't and were always part of the outdoors that includes the view onto and across the ocean.

The perfect St. John getaway

Mampoo Hill was even better than expected from the pictures and video we saw before arriving at the house. Having lived om the Virgin Islands many years ago, this house brought back such happy memories of the way life used to be on St. John. The open air living and dining space with ceiling fans is exactly the type of lifestyle we enjoy. The bedrooms are both well furnished and the beds are super comfortable. We kept the windows open, with no need of AC, thanks to the ceiling fans and onshore breezes. Mampoo Hill is surrounded by beauty both inside and outside the house. The view of Devers Bay is mesmerizing at any time of the day or night. And we were lucky to have a full moon for some wonderful, peaceful nights on the deck. The house is perfectly maintained and has everything and anything you need to feel at home. Although we were out with local friends most evenings, we cooked several dinners in the kitchen and lacked for nothing. From the minute we were met at the ferry, we felt welcomed and appreciated the friendly but professional introduction to the house. The Jeep provided was perfect for us to get to our favorite snorkeling spots on the island. However, one of our new favs is the wonderful coral gardens of Devers Bay, right in front of the house. Made it so hard to leave the house that we spent one full day exploring the Bay and hanging out. We rent a lot of vacation homes during the year for work related trips. Mampoo Hill is the best yet. TRAVEL TIP: From the STT airport, take a cab to Crown Bay Marina and use Inter Island Boat Services' new ferry (3:00 and 5:00pm daily) to Cruz Bay. This ferry docks at The Creek (next to the NPS Visitors Center). The cab ride is only 10-15 minutes and there's a decent bar/restaurant right there to grab a cold cocktail and bite to eat while you wait for the ferry which takes about 30 minutes to get to STJ. We took the same ferry back to St. Thomas, leaving at 11:00 from Cruz Bay and arriving in plenty of time for us to cab to the airport, get through customs and TSA for a 2:00pm departure. Cost is $20 per person, $5 per bag. RESTAURANTS: Morgan's Mango Extra Virgin Bistro Tap & Still (when you just have to have a big ol' burger and fries) Miss Lucy's, Calabash Boom - worth the drive for their jazz brunch on Sunday but be prepared to share a table and/or wait as it's really popular. Thank you to everyone who makes Mampoo Hill so special. We will be back!

Fantastic house. Great view and falling asleep to the ocean waves at night was amazing. Stay on top of the jungle juice or learn the hard way mosquitoes are legitimately coming for you.

40th Anniversary Trip

We loved Mampoo Hill house. The open format of the house and the gorgeous view were amazing! We had everything we needed there. The rocky beach just below the house was beautiful and we snorkeled in the bay just down the beach. Loved it!

Dream Family Vacation

My husband and two teenage boys just got back from a week at Mampoo Hill. We had an amazing time staying at this gorgeous and unique house. The pictures don't even do it justice. The views from every part of the house are breathtaking and the house was clean and well stocked. We took advantage of the jeep which made our day trips much easier. Parking around the island was quite an experience but worked out. ;) Candice's artwork added to the overall beauty of the house. What a fantastic place to relax with my family. We hiked, snorkeled and loved the recommended restaurants. We hope to be back someday! Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home!

Incredible views

We absolutely loved our time at Mampoo Hill. The sunset views were amazing. The house was very clean and well kept. Pictures don't do justice. Jennifer & Craig were great to work with and we really enjoyed seeing all of Candice's art work around the house. We can't wait to return to St Johns and plan on booking this home again when we do.

Exactly as described—an extraordinary property

Mampoo Hill will go down as one of—if not THE—most extraordinary vacation properties we’ve ever experienced. The house is fun and well maintained, but words don’t do the scene, view, privacy, and lusciousness of the property justice. All the caveats shared by other reviewers are accurate—there are an abundance of no see ems, island life is unpredictable (power outages were a thing during our stay), etc—and this isn’t a “luxury” property in terms of sheer creature comforts, so go in with your eyes open. But we loved it and would definitely stay again! The owner and caretakers are fab, the jeep was great, and we are feeling very lucky to have spent 9 days in this special place.

Paradise

When we travel, we prefer to find places more "away" from the crowds and high-rises. This VRBO at Mampoo Place delivers. The sounds of the ocean, the views all day (and even sometimes at night!) The seashells, iguanas, hermit crabs, and marine life were all fantastic. I was nervous about the iguanas "visiting" but they stayed in their tree and were delightful entertainment. We stayed as a last family vacation with all of our 4 children still "in the nest" and my mama heart stuffed a million memories in with so many smiles! The mosquitoes are nothing to mess with here! They were violent little suckers (and I was born and raised in MN lakes country where they get to be the size of small birds!) Moral of the story; USE THE JUNGLE JUICE. We also had issues with sugar ants, but with an open-air concept like Mampoo Hill, it would be silly to complain, I just think a warning is due that if you don't want to share your snacks with critters of all sizes, shapes, and forms, then you should keep all opened foods in airtight containers, the fridge, or freezer and do your dishes promptly after eating. Taking out the trash daily is doubly recommended for the same reasons (we never left garbage to find out, but I wholeheartedly believe ANYTHING left out could bring in uninvited guests!) The people, the history, the water, and EVERYTHING about this island is magical. I have NEVER had my stress melt away like our two weeks here and I pray we can make it back again.
