Well themed, but functionality is another story
My family of 3 have been staying at Absolute Charm properties for a number of years. This week we rented The Rockwood. It was not accurately represented in the photos and descriptions, and was, quite frankly, a disappointment.
There is plenty of charm and theming throughout the house, but functionality is lacking in several areas. First, the sliding door to the back patio from the master bedroom is broken and the owner's solution was to wedge a 1x3 stick into the frame to act as a lock. The outdoor furniture in the yard was filthy and had nails sticking out of the frame. This really doesn't matter since the view of the âWet Reservoirâ doesn't exist. The boat dock is beached on land, the water is gone, and a housing development is under construction in its place. This was not a case of drought as we had heavy rain almost every day of the week. The toilets may or may not flush and you have to jiggle the handles to keep them from running. The fan in the game room doesn't work and according to Tim (who answers the phone when you report problems) has never worked. Internet service is unreliable. Don't expect to attend teleconferences or be able to watch TV for any length of time. The oven is barely functional with no working thermometer except one that was added inside the oven which is hard to read. The owner left detailed instructions acknowledging the oven had problems and how to work around them. The main bathroom has some sort of wood floor that becomes slippery when you use the shower. The kitchen table is too big for the space; you cannot sit a family around it without hitting the walls. The couches in the family room are uncomfortable with a TV hanging from ropes over the fireplace and at a height that is too high to watch (assuming the internet doesn't cut out).
We don't expect perfection, but it is clear the owners are aware of the issues and instead of correcting them are implementing workarounds. There are (2) new elaborating themed houses on the property and meanwhile existing houses are being neglected.
