The studio is in a separate building from the main house in this little slice of paradise that is a part of Ebeys National Historic Reserve and is on a beach right at the water's edge of Penn Cove. Nature abounds on this unique property, with eagles, hawks, gulls, owls, herons, oyster catchers and so many other birds showing up on the shores. You will often spot harbor seals, and the occasional otter and orca, too. Whether you are looking for a romantic and peaceful escape from city life, or an active few days exploring the numerous state parks, fishing, crabbing, kayaking, boating, antiquing, wine tasting at nearby island wineries, tasting locally produced ales, getting fresh produce from local farms, enjoying the quaint town of Coupeville, there are many options. The studio has a stove and refrigerator, so you are able to prepare light meals. There is an outdoor, under cover picnic area. There is also a cedar hot tub and sauna available for use for an extra daily fee (usually included in quote, but is optional). This property falls into the rain shadow and is south facing, so we often see sunshine when a lot of the Pacific Northwest is under cloud cover or rain. Located a few minutes from the town of Coupeville, and with Oak Harbor a few minutes in the other direction, State parks nearby, this studio located in a rural private enclave right on the water offers something for everyone to enjoy.

Please note that either myself and my husband or a caretaker will almost always be staying in the main house during your stay, so if any issues arise, would be able to address them as soon as is feasible.

For a limited time, we are also offering a basement suite in the main house with a separate private entrance that has a kitchen and its own separate hot tub and firepit area. See VRBO rental # 2989661. The availability is from April 6th to July 3rd, 2025.

Peaceful Getaway

We had such a lovely, peaceful stay at this little island retreat. The beach was quiet and calm and we got to walk the beach and watch the wildlife all weekend (plus the live-in chicken & ducks!). The studio is literally right on the beach and has a wonderful view from the large front windows. The bed was comfy and the mini-fridge was big enough for the weekend. We played card games in the loft and watched cartoons on the flatscreen! The hot tub was wonderful, but we were unable to get the firepit lit (darn rain!). We were here in early April, so it was breezy and chilly outside. The radiator in the main part of the studio was great, but the bathroom heater wasn't able to keep up. There were only 2 small, very fixable negatives, which were the oven smoking and setting off the smoke alarm each time we turned it on-- a previous tenant must have spilled something in it. The 2nd was the shower getting cold much too quickly, like 5-10 minutes in, so we learned to take very fast showers! These didn't dampen our trip, though. It was still a quiet, lovely, picturesque, and magical stay! Lastly, the caretaker was very friendly, quiet, and allowed us plenty of privacy.

Wonderful getaway

We had a wonderful weekend in mid February at the studio. The views and location unbeatable and the bed very comfy. I would highly recommend this place and would come back in a heartbeat.

On the Beach!

Mere steps from the beach on beautiful Penn Cove. Super comfy bed & cozy studio. Bonus being dog friendly. Fantastic communication with the host. Location was great - central to the Island - easy to sightsee North one day and South the next. Nearby Coupeville has amazing shops & restaurants.

A slice of heaven

This place was perfection. The pictures don’t do it justice. The studio itself is cozy and lovely. The property is adorable and right on the cove! We also enjoyed the hot tub which was perfectly sized for the two of us and looked out into the water. Don’t pass up this amazing slice of heaven!!!

Great Stay

The Penn cove studio was perfect for a quick Whidbey getaway! It’s an amazing location, right on the water and a quick bike ride to the Kettles or fort Ebey state park. The place is clean and comfy and the hosts are super friendly. Can’t wait to stay again!

Cozy & Serene

I wish I could have stayed at least a day longer at this gem. The bed is so fluffy and comfy, everything felt extremely clean. We made use of the little kitchenette, it was great for simple meals. The cedar hot tub was delicious and overall I felt I had more than adequate privacy despite this being a guesthouse. Every interaction with the hosts was lovely. They even let us pick some apples from the yard! The real treasure was launching our paddle boards from the private beach. Highly recommend this stay

Relaxing Stay

My mom and I loved this studio. It was the perfect size, had everything we needed, and we had our beach private beach access. If we travel to Whidbey Island again, we’ll look into staying here again.

Great spot on Penn Cove

I enjoyed my stay here very much and the hot tub was a very nice treat. There’s a small market up the street and the studio is right at the water’s edge with lots to see and relaxing sounds of the water on the shore.

Studio on the water

I stayed at the studio with my daughter for a weekend. The studio was beautiful and comfortable. It was small, but it was perfect for our stay. Debbie was a great hostess. She was patient with me as I was a first time VRBO user. I think our favorite part was seeing the animals on the property, especially watching the duck play in the cove. We would definitely stay here again.

Coupeville Beach Getaway

We loved the small unit and enjoyed coffee on the beach. The owners were very nice and shared some freshly caught crab. Giving us cooking instructions we enjoyed every bite! It was a perfect long weekend with great hikes and local restaurants.

Loved the Natural Vibes at Penn Cove

The Studio on Penn Cove was perfect for our short stay on Whidbey Island. We loved walking on the beach early in the morning and again in the evening. The hosts have created a natural and relaxing atmosphere that reflects the diversity of the island. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer.

The property was amazing. You are adjacent to the water which as a former islander I love. The room was immaculate and the loft provided additional space with which to relax. We had a 15 month female lab so we were nervous about her making a mess. Also, the access and where to and from the driveway can be tricky with traffic but is doable.I would recommend.

Front door to Wild Life

Seals, herons, eagles, and bunnies! Oh my! We had no idea that we would be visited by so many wild animals. (The host also has a friendly duck and chickens). Our host was very communicative and thoughtful. The space has everything you need. Peaceful and off the grid.

Peaceful Penn Cove

This property, although small, was perfect for us! Quiet, perfect distance from the water. We could hear the birds and the wind. I would definitely stay there again on my future visits to Coupeville. Or anywhere on the island because of it's central location. Deborah was gracious enough to help me with the booking. (cause i'm old and some of this stuff can be confusing) Deborah was a delight eventhough we barely spoke in passing. Thank you fo keeping such a clean little get away, Deborah! We LOVED it!

Lovely Island Getaway

A very cute little beach cottage right on the shore of Penn Cove. The studio is very nicely appointed to maximize every inch of space, but doesn't feel cramped. The absence of a kitchen sink is a bit tricky when it's time to wash dishes in the bathroom, but the only things missing among the provided supplies were a cutting board and oven mitts to make a nice, simple dinner at home. The king bed was extremely comfortable and we loved the little loft above to sit and read while looking at the owner's beautiful front yard. The only real downside is the fact the house is right off the main highway throughout Whidbey Island. When you have all the windows open to get a cooling breeze (no AC; a ceiling fan would be a great addition), the traffic noise is loud and intrusive. There are chickens and a duck on the property as well, and lots of marine wildlife, so it's seldom really quiet. We enjoyed the hot tub (at an extra fee) one night which gives you a spectacular view of the water. Instructions from the host were clear and complete; we needed no additional help. I did thank the host by email after we left and she replied that she was glad we enjoyed our stay, but did not thank us for coming.

Beautiful stay

This was one of our favorite stays ever. Beautiful cottage on a beach peppered with muscles and clams. The hot tub was an added treat to take in the view. Coupeville is a very cute town and was a convenient location to hike and other activities. The groundskeeper Bill kindly made us a soup with the shellfish on the beach and it remains one of the best meals we have had, and was so generous! Really recommend this place!

Beautiful Property!

This was a very cute studio lake house! The sauna and hot tub spa options were AMAZING!! Also, do not be concerned about the proximity of the property owners. I found both John and Debbie to be friendly, and whom both did what they could not to disturb us in more private moments. You need to not overthink this option and just book it! P.S. John I still think Chicago has the best pizza! Lol....the east coast can have the silver medal (wink). Thank you, Denise & Hardy

We have another property we have been renting out in California for over ten years now on VRBO, so are very familiar with the requirements of what makes happy renters. We love to create space that is inviting and comfortable and pleasing to the eye. We look forward to sharing our little slice of heaven with you.

Location, location, location. No nearby neighbors and right on the water in a reserve. A few minute's drive to towns and shopping and also state parks. Relaxing and calm with a very comfortable interior, it is a wonderful place to unwind from city life.
