Great Stay

Grandview Beach is wonderfully tucked away and perfectly located for our trip to Mackinac Island. The cottage is spacious, clean and adorable with touches of family history throughout and has absolutely amazing lake views. The home has an old family feel, making it warm & nostalgic, which we loved. The kitchen is well-stocked, as is everything in the home, with many extras - linens, games, puzzles & essentials. Our kids used the row-boat, enjoyed the bikes and the neighborhood is great. Our family made wonderful memories and had an enjoyable stay.

A home away from home.

What a great place. It was like having our own vacation house. We had everything we needed ... and then some. The house is clean, cozy, and located right on the lake. The little peninsula we were on was just about empty, so we had the whole area to ourselves. The water is crystal clear, and the bottom mostly sandy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to go back again one day soon.

Cottage on the Lake

I had looked and looked for the perfect place to stay and was excited when I found The cottage in Grandview on Mullet Lake! Everything was perfect… Even the weather! The cottage was clean and in perfect shape, we enjoyed our evening fire right on the lake, taking the Row boat out, and being so close to other sites and places we wanted to visit! Our host was great and we can’t wait to go back!

Nice Visit

Property was lovely. Beach front was wonderful. My husband had success fishing from his kayak. We were there in July and there were neighbors. I always prefer more seclusion but that is no fault of the property.

Little Piece of Heaven

Any review I give will not do justice to how wonderful our stay was. Claudia is the best. She answered any question I had. Everything you may need is in the kitchen. The beds are comfortable. It was clean, and comfortable, although we really spent limited time inside. We were either sitting out by the lake watching grandkids swim or out in the lake ourselves. I just can't say enough about this cottage. One downside for anyone that has health issues with heat, when we got there it was 90 and a bit warm inside. There is a portable AC that we did use but wasn't needed after the first night. We loved every minute of staying at the Valas Villa.

Fantastic cottage - can’t wait to come back!

What a fabulous cottage! We couldn’t have had a better experience. We grew up going to our family cottage and this has so many things that reminded us of our favorite place. We brought many of our own supplies but didn’t need anything bc Claudia thinks of everything and is very generous! The cottage is spacious. We had 10 adults and never once felt like it was too crowded. The open floor plan allows everyone to be inside, doing different things, but still together. We also rented a pontoon boat from Inn Between Waterfront Rentals and were able to easily park it on the lift. Highly recommend renting a boat as is was fun to cruise down the river to Burt Lake or riding around Mullett and hanging out at the sand bar. The lake is amazing! The cottage is also close to many big cities so we had fun going to Mackinac Island, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and Indian River. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and felt like home. Claudia is such a fantastic host and extremely quick to respond to all communications. Highly recommend this cottage! We will be back annually!

Wonderful getaway!!

From the beginning communication with Claudia, to her flexibility with us bringing our fur-babies, to arriving to such an exceptionally well-appointed vacation rental, we were made to feel at home. The kitchen was well stocked with all the dishes, utensils, spices, coffees and teas we could need. The grill and flat iron griddle were a welcome cook feature. The dock was a perfect place to bring our 17-foot fishing boat and 23 foot tri-toon. We enjoyed exploring Mullett Lake, Indian River and Burt Lake. Very generous mayfly hatch made fishing more of a meditation activity than a catching crusade. But as they say, "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work" Overall, this has been the BEST VRBO our combined 3 families have enjoyed in the last 6-years. Highly recommend Claudia's Valla Villa!! Thank you, Claudia

Peace and Beauty

When the sun came out the sunrise was spectacular. And due to the time of year it was like we had the bay to ourselves!!! Our hostess had a huge stock of coffee and the best towels in the universe!!! We have travelled up north a bit and this was one of the best!!!

60th Birthday Weekend

Hi Claudia. I just want to thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage with my siblings and I this weekend. We had a wonderful time together. We had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The lake was beautiful! We loved listening to the waves rolling in. The weather was great, sunny and warm. We went to Mass at The Cross in the Woods. Traveled to Leggs Inn for Sunday dinner. Beautiful cottage and lake

Wonderful Stay

The host Claudia was wonerful, she answered all our questions prior to our stay in a timely matter, it was super easy to enter the cottage, it was very clean and everything we hoped for when we arrived for a weeks stay. The cottage has everything you need for meals, plenty of room and a great location on the water and only a few minute ride to Indian river. Our grandchuldren had a blast playing on the beach in front of the cottage along with camp fires under the stars in the evenings. I would highly recommend Claudia's cottage for a families who want to enjoy the beauty of Mullet Lake. Thanks Claudia, we hope to return in the years ahead.

Excellent House for a Northern Michigan Vacation

The 'Vala Villa' was the perfect backdrop for our family's annual vacation. The house exceeded our expectations and provided us exactly what we were looking for, and more. The spacious, open floor plan in the kitchen/dining room/living room made it easy to have everyone involved in the conversation and meals. The kitchen was stocked with any pot, pan, or accessory you could want. The views out to the lake from the house, including the three-seasons room, were fantastic. The dock was in excellent condition and provided enough room for sun bathing and lake activities for multiple people. The lake itself is a little rocky close to shore, but very sandy if you walk a few more feet out. Not to mention it's very shallow and makes for easy enjoyment. The fire pit right on the shore provided excellent views while watching the lake. An added bonus was the shed out front with inflatables, bikes, toys, etc. The house itself is a short drive off of I-75, which made taking off for day trips very easy. Overall, I would highly recommend this house for anyone looking for comfy, spacious accommodations that will have everything you need.

Absolutely Perfect!

This home was exactly what I hoped it would be! It was VERY clean when we arrived. There was plenty of space for our college age kiddos and our two labradoodles. We LOVED sitting on the back porch just watching the lake. My favorite thing about this place was the way Claudia prepared it for pets. There were blankets to cover the furniture. There were older towels for wiping wet paws. There were even pup life jackets for our babies to to learn how to swim. They loved jumping off the dock and swimming with all of us. The water was beautiful and crystal clear, shallow and perfect for swimming. Our kids loved riding the bikes (provided) to Indian River for ice cream. They went out on the row boat and canoe. We played games (they have dozens) and put a giant puzzle together. This house is just unbelievably welcoming and comfortable and perfect. Claudia does so many things to make it feel family friendly. We LOVED it. We went to Petoskey for a day and enjoyed the shops and restaurants and Kilwins, the big chocolate factory. Such a treat. Thank-you for such a wonderful vacation!

This place is so nice!! It had everything we needed for our week stay. It was right on the water with a nice pier to fish off of. We already are thinking of a time we can come back again. I highly recommend it if you are in the area! Very nice owner to work with.

The PERFECT place for a family reunion

We used this cottage as a “Home Base” for a family reunion vacation and we can’t say enough about how incredible it was! There was more than enough room for our family of 4 to stay and to host dinners and entertainment for our extended family. We have stayed in a LOT of rental places - and we have never stayed in one that provided as much as this one! From the FULLY stocked kitchen to games and toys to life jackets for every size (including dog-size!), a “share closet” with clothes we were welcome to use if we needed to (THANK YOU, Claudia! That raincoat was definitely used!)….everything was provided. We also loved the family pictures, notes, and treasures that filled the house - it was just so homey. It truly felt like we were being welcomed into an old friend’s cottage, unlike many of the nice but comparatively sterile places we have stayed before. The weather was not fantastic while we were there, but we did get out on our paddle boards and kayaks a couple of times and saw lots of wildlife. Our parents live on Burt Lake and we had a great time bringing their fishing boat down Indian River and taking the kids out for rides and doing some fishing a few times, despite the cool, sometimes rainy weather. We loved it here so much that we are hoping it stays rentable for years to come so that we can continue staying here every time we come to visit family! Thanks, Claudia and family, for sharing your lovely cottage with us!

Family vacation 2023

The cottage is so comfortable and large enough for our family of 7. Kitchen is well-stocked so we had everything we needed to prepare meals. The sun porch was a favorite place to sit and look out at the lake. We took trips to Petoskey, Cheboygan and Mackinaw City...all within a 1/2 hour drive. We played putt-putt golf in Indian River and took bike rides on the bike trail which is close to the cottage. Also, every day we went fishing and caught pike, walleye and perch. Claudia was very responsive and kind. She definitely is an amazing host! We're looking forward to staying again next year!

Perfect vacation home

I can’t say enough good things about our rental experience. Location is great, close to highway and minutes from Indian River. The beach has a small rock section but can be avoided by using the stairs on the dock. The lake is shallow with hard packed sandy bottom. It’s close to the river mouth and nature area with an easy paddle or even walking in the water. The house itself is great, very spacious with plenty of seating. Everything is well kept and clean and feels like home and not a “cottage”. Owners were great and accommodating. Would love to rent again.

n 1963, John and Helen Vala loaded up their six children and their Springer Spaniel, Babs, into their station wagon and headed north 325 miles to a cottage on Grandview Beach right on the shores of Mullett Lake. That first visit to Grandview Beach was magical for our family, and my parents purchased that quaint two-bedroom cottage shortly after. The cottage has been in the family ever since. John and Helen named the place Vala’s Villa as a tongue and cheek title for the very modest summer home. We spent entire summers here; leaving the day school got out and heading back down to Detroit on Labor Day weekend. We treasure the memories of those days: being on the water sunup to sundown, boating, fishing, biking, hiking, swimming, and socializing with all the other families on the beach amidst the beautiful backdrop of pristine waters, grand trees, and bountiful birds and forest creatures.

The quaint two bedroom cottage is now an updated four-bedroom summer home. After countless cherished memories made by a big family and our friends, I am now the proud owner of Vala’s Villa with my sister and daughter. Our two families cannot utilize the cottage to the extent we would like, and we would love to share this wonderful space with other families looking to experience the joys of Northern Michigan. We hope during your stay that you experience the same magic here as our family has over the years.

We are 30 minutes or less from other area attractions such as Mackinaw Bridge, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Cheboygan with lots of activities for all ages. There are restaurants, ice cream shops, boat rentals just a short car ride away or you can just watch the eagles, sandhill cranes, hummingbirds and more while you swing on the hammock.
