Alpena is a quiet, welcoming town, and this home is in a safe, friendly neighborhood that is great for walking with the dog. It’s about a 10-minute walk to Thomson Park Beach on Lake Huron, which has dog-friendly areas. Starlite Beach is a little farther away and was busier during our visit, but it offers a splash park and public bathrooms.Rockport State Recreation Area is a 20–30 minute drive north and has Devonian-era fossils you can collect, while Negwegon State Park is about 30 minutes south with a beautiful, undeveloped shoreline that’s perfect for hiking and beachcombing. Both parks are dog-friendly.The house is updated, exceptionally clean, and comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen and thoughtful extras that made our stay more enjoyable. The fully fenced backyard works well for dogs of all sizes. The host was quick to respond to any questions.Guests should know that the upstairs has low ceilings and firm beds, so taller guests may prefer the downstairs bedroom. The house does not have central air conditioning, and the window units can be noisy, but in early August we found nights cool and breezy.We enjoyed dinner at Mango’s, the free NOAA Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary museum, and a glass-bottom boat tour on Thunder Bay. There are both Aldi and Meijer nearby for easy grocery shopping. If we visit Alpena again, we would gladly stay here a second time.

Our stay was wonderful! The house was perfect for my family. It was very clean and well stocked, including many extra touches. The location was ideal - only 3-5 minute drive from downtown Alpena’s attractions and 3 minutes from the beach. The host was responsive and wonderful to work with. The check in and out process was seamless. We would definitely stay again if we come back to Alpena!

Perfectly met our needs!

Our party of 8 adults and teens had plenty of room to sleep, lounge, eat, and play in this rental. The kitchen is well appointed and everything was sparkling clean! Parking is a breeze and the neighboorhood is quiet and walking distance to lots of Alpena fun!

Quick Getaway

This home is nicely decorated, clean, and conveniently located in town. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need and owners went far above with the extra touches. A lot of thought went into making sure renters have a super experience. We didn't have children with us, but kids could be entertained in the house even on a rainy day. Our dog enjoyed the fenced yard while we relaxed by the fire pit.

Visit to Rocksport Alpena.

The house was clean, modern and well furnished. It could easily accommodate 6 people. We chose it because we brought along our 10-month old puppy and the fenced in yard made that easy. Everything was conveniently close. We had a very pleasant stay.

Quiet, clean, great value!

Excellent property! Very clean, comfortable and dog friendly. Love being able to stay here with my pups and will do it again. Very quiet area and nice neighbors that shoveled the sidewalk and driveway after a big snowstorm. :)

Home away from home

We needed a pet friendly place where we would feel comfortable leaving our furbaby for a short amount of time throughout the day. This place was perfect with its fenced in yard! This was great for all of us and very clean! Will very much use in the future when we come back to visit family!

We recently stayed here for a family get together and late Christmas. It quickly felt like home because of all of the touches. It is well-furnished and maintained. Lots of room to spread out and relax. The fenced in backyard was amazing for the dog!

Clean, cute, thoughtful accommodations

It’s definitely an old house but has been updated nicely. The house was clean and comfortable with thoughtful touches like extra toiletries, laundry soap, etc. We loved being able to bring our two chocolate labs along and the fenced yard made it really convenient. Our kids loved having their own rooms with TVs. One bathroom was a little challenging with a family of 4, but we made it work. It was certainly more comfortable and spacious for 3 nights than a hotel, and probably not much more expensive, either. The location is really convenient and close to everything in town. We will definitely stay here again when traveling to Alpena!

Great place to stay in Alpena

We visited Alpena for work and, instead of staying in holtes, we stayed in this house. It was comfortable, well stocked, and clean. It worked out great for us.

Home sweet home

Our family enjoyed our stay. My 8 yr old niece loved it and can’t wait to go back. We walked to the bay view park got coffee and snacks at Bigby coffee then explored the quaint city. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Peaceful vacation

We loved our stay here! We were looking for a quiet getaway during the last week of summer break, and this was the perfect spot. The house was conveniently located--we loved walking to the small beach just a few blocks away, and nearly everything else we wanted to do was within five-minute drive. The house itself was very pleasant, and our dogs enjoyed the spacious back yard. We will definitely be back!

Nice house, our dog loved it too

The house was great inside. From the outside pulling up it doesn't look like anything special but it was very open and pretty inside. We stayed 3 nights. We were on a northern Michigan brewery tour and was able to go to 5 from there. I would recommend this property

Last Minute Business Booking

I travel to Alpena a few times a year for work. This time, all of the local hotels were booked!! I reached out to Jennie for a last minute, late check in. Her responses were timely & friendly! Check in was a breeze! Can't wait to use this location again, for family fun!

Cozy, tidy, and very well appointed!!

Communication with the property owner was fantastic! Jennie kept us well informed, and always answered my messages within minutes. The property was very tidy, and had everything you can think of. Large selection of kitchen cooking/eating utensils, lots of extra linens/towels, and so tastefully decorated; it felt like being at home! The upstairs ceiling is quite low (my 6'1" son's head touched the ceiling and all of us had to duck to go up or down the stairs), but the owner is up front about that in the listing, and even has reminder signs at the house. The house has two window air conditioning units; one in the kitchen on the main floor, and another in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The house also had box fans we used, as well as two ceiling fans on the main floor. My daughter was uncomfortable in the upstairs room without the air conditioner, so if you like it cold while you sleep, this may be an issue. Everyone else in our party was fine. I will say, this is one of the best rental properties I've ever stayed at. You don't get a better host than Jennie!

Comfortable house, nice location

My wife and I and some friends went on an overnight bike run. The house was very clean, nice location. We were able to get an Uber (Steve) to dinner and back and had a very nice time.

Perfect place to stay in Alpena!

House is absolutely beautiful, well kept, in a great neighborhood, and perfectly located for exploring Alpena. Hosts are wonderful and truly think of every detail. Our family of 3, plus 2 dogs, loved staying here and would definitely stay again!

Hi! We're Jennie and Josh, owners of Handrich Properties. We've been married for 22 years and have made our home here in Alpena. We love going on adventures with our 3 kids, like biking, camping, and travelling the US.

I (Jennie) owned my own custom cake business for 13 years, and love meeting new people! I now work at our awesome local gym, and love running . I'll be running my third marathon this summer.

Josh is a real estate agent and loves basketball and playing hobby board games. One of his current favorites is Terraforming Mars. He has a vast collection of games, and is always happy to loan them out if you're staying with us and looking for a new game to try.

Our properties have been beautifully renovated and are just minutes from the beach. You will have the entire home to yourself. We live very close by and are happy to help with anything you might need during your stay, providing we are not out of town at the time.
