Modern, high‑end kitchen appliances and strong Wi‑Fi (important because there’s no cell reception). The cottage has effective A/C, and the location is quiet. It's dark enough for stargazing, and sits in a rural, scenic area with a great deck and some eclectic antique furniture. It feels remote but is only 20 minutes from Philomath and 35 from Corvallis, with the Siuslaw National Forest in the other direction.Less ideal: The gate keypad initially didn’t work, though the owners fixed it quickly. Aggressive bees/wasps were present at the gate, and later two yellow jackets got in through gaps in two different window screens. An active paper‑wasp nest was above the kitchen window, and I didn't see any traps around the property. I couldn't find any spray for such insects in the cottage, either. One living‑room window- at eye level and approachable from outside- has brackets but no blinds. The murphy bed (where your kids might sleep) is just feet away.Several non-issues added up to "this place feels under-maintained": numerous bleach spots and stains on the carpet, scuffed and chipped paint on many walls, stains on the couch, crooked cabinet doors, a missing cabinet corner, no recycling bin despite instructions, a sticking bathroom door, a worn desk chair, residue in the coffee maker, dishwasher‑tab goop, and an expired snack bar. The cottage has great features, but overall upkeep feels inconsistent.
