BEWARE!!!I live 12 hours from this location, and I booked this house in mid-August for the Talladega race weekend in late April. The Tuesday before our Friday stay, the host messaged me saying, “An urgent matter out of our control has occurred. We are sorry to say the property you booked is not available for this weekend.”I called VRBO to address the issue and was able to get the host’s contact information. I reached out to her, but she did not answer. Instead, I received a call from another woman who claimed to know the host. She said they were sorry, but the property had been double-booked.This same woman offered a stay at another location (not through VRBO), but there were several red flags. The property was not listed anywhere, the only photo appeared to be from when the house was for sale in 2024, the contract was just a Word document (not Docusign or anything secure), and they would only accept cash.I contacted VRBO again, and we tried to find a new location. However, despite VRBO’s best efforts, there was nothing available, which makes sense since it was canceled just two days before my trip. We ended up having to cancel our trip. While we did receive a refund for the house, we had already purchased tickets and other items totaling around 2,000 that we could not recover.
