It’s the largest island of the area known as the Ten Thousand Islands, and opportunities abound to get out on the water and into the dazzling Florida sunshine.
Grab the sunscreen and a towel and head to nearby Tigertail beach to experience the clear, warm gulf water and sparkling white sand beach. It’s a nature lover’s haven with birds galore, seashells, and marine life and is popular for kayaking and paddleboarding. Rentals are available right there on the beach. If you feel the need to get a closer look at marine mammals, take a boat tour to spot some bottlenose dolphins around the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge. For spotting land-based creatures, Otter Mound Preserve has a great walking trail through a shaded forest habitat that many animals call home.
