Overlooking rolling green fields leading to a wooded ridge, this Amish-built, contemporary barn house is the perfect peaceful retreat from which to explore Schoharie County.

The house was designed by the host to take full advantage of the beautiful vista, and is filled with natural light and birdsong. The interior blends new with old, rural with urban. The open-plan downstairs level comprises a living room, dining area and kitchen, plus a powder room for convenience. The two bedrooms and master bathroom are situated upstairs, along with washer-dryer machine that guests are free to use. Outdoors features a bonfire pit with seating from which to watch the Milky Way.

Set in the beautiful rural county of Schoharie, guests can enjoy hiking, farm stands, micro breweries, local vineyards, cafes, and restaurants all within a ten-mile radius. The house is located close to the I-88 and I-90. It is 45 minute-drive from Albany, one hour away from Cooperstown and the heart of the Catskills, and three hours from New York City.

Cozy retreat

This place was beautiful! Located off the main streets but just a short drive to get to food or shopping. This was the perfect place for us to unwind while visiting family. The owner was very thoughtful and easy to communicate with. The home was spotless and comfortable!

Absolutely Gorgeous

This is our second time staying at this location! The house and grounds are beautiful kept. The owner is wonderful and couldn’t be more accommodating! I highly recommend. Plus it is local to so many attractions!

Peaceful and Quiet Setting

I stayed here for a few days to work on a book. I needed a peaceful and quiet setting and this property certainly delivered! Great views, the house was comfortable and clean. Justine was a great host and was always available via the app to answer my questions in a timely manner. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway, this totally delvers!

Nice property - well equipped and very clean. From the photos, I thought it was a bit more off the beaten path. Instead, it was just off a rural main road.

Originally from London, by way of New York City, I quit city living in my forties and moved to rural Upstate New York in search of a simpler life more closely connected to nature. I have developed a passion for house design and building homes, and this house is the first of hopefully many more to come.

Hosting is a delightful way to meet a diverse array of people passing through, and I love to hear their stories. I have met such lovely folks along the way, and am happy to offer them my home.

Schoharie County is a beautiful agricultural area where locals are committed to building community around food, drink, and a love of nature. I have plenty of recommendations for guests of where to visit during their stay - many of them places run by personal friends of mine.

I designed the house myself, and had the Amish build it in less than three days. The house is mix of urban industrial and traditional rural styles and marries the varied chapters of my life with a commitment to energy-efficient living through simple design. The property is very unique and guests always comment on how peaceful the setting is.
